Another factor that comes to play on that is his Contract Monster. His Monster Magnugiga can't move on it's own so it's not like it can get up and eat him anytime soon even if it wanted to.

Ryuki will always hold a special place in my heart since it’s was the first Japanese Kamen Rider show I ever watched after Dragon Knight introduced me to the franchise. It’s not my all time favorite but it had a lot of fun characters and some of my favorite designs in the franchise. And I’d be lying if I don’t have a small temptation to do Ryuki henshin poses whenever I’m in front of a mirror lol

My personal head canon for the Episode Final timeline is that they eventually won but it cost Ren his life making Shinji the winner and he used his wish to make it so it never rained that day as a child

My headcanon I'm going with for fan-manga that I plan on doing in the future is a continuation of the Ryuki storyline set after the events of Episode Final basically it'll be revealed that after slaying all the Mirror Monsters Ren forces Shinji to fight him as there has to be a winner of the Rider War and Shinji wins but realizes as Ren is dying that Ren was injured during the fight against the Mirror Monsters and knew that fighting Shinji with this injury would result in his death therefore insuring the most noble one of them all Shinji would be the winner and Shinji uses his wish to not only seemingly seal the Mirror World away but also bring back every Rider that died including Ren, and Miho but have their memories of the Rider War, the Mirror World, the Mirror Monsters, and being a Kamen Rider/knowing about Kamen Riders be erased with him seemingly being the only Rider left. Now the fan-manga I plan on doing is set a couple of years after Shinji, and Ren's climatic fight and it'll reveal that someone had managed to unseal the Mirror World and start up a new Rider War with this mysterious individual handing our new lead heroine Ryoko Takahashi and others individual Advent Decks and instructing them to forge Contracts with Mirror Monsters and fight each other with the winner being granted a wish. Now for the 2 central Riders that key to the plot Shinji will return as Kamen Rider Ryuki due to being the winner of the last Rider War and will serve as a mysterious ally/mysterious mentor/potential foe if it comes to it to the new lead Rider Ryoko who surprisingly will be the new Kamen Rider Ryuga, yeah I'm having it to where Ryuga is the lead anti-heroine for this continuation but I'm having it to where Dragblacker reveals to Ryoko that Dark Shinji was just a human avatar it created to fight in the Rider War and before their contract happens we see Ryoko get sent into a Mirror-esque prison located within her mind where she confronts her own dark doppelganger that Dragblacker creates and she manages to purify it while fusing with it by accepting that it is her and nothing changes that no matter how much she wants to deny the existence of her own darker self and after this she forms a contract with Dragblacker, and becomes the new Kamen Rider Ryuga with her vowing to fight and win the war with her wish being to permanently seal the Mirror World for good so that another Rider War can never happen again with Ryoko stating that she has no qualms about fighting and slaying Mirror Monsters and villainous Riders like the new Scissors Hazama, and the new Ouja Basara who target innocent people and want to win the 2nd Rider War with the hopes of being granted a wish created by his/her wicked/greedy desires, but will fight and reluctantly slay allied Riders like Shinji, the new Kamen Rider Knight Yuji, the new Kamen Rider Femme Haruka, and the new Kamen Rider Raia Satoshi, and neutral Riders like the new Gai Takashi if they give her no other options but to fight to the death.

Ryuki's driver/weapon sounds will always be my favorite. For me, *FINAL VENT* it's the ultimate "someone is going to get fucked up" sound. As good as the newer driver sounds/jingles are, I grew up with Showa riders so I prefer the simpler driver sounds of early heisei. Plus Zolga's Final Vent being called "End of the World" (yes, they do have names!) Is just gnarly! In fact most of the things do have names in the series, like the contract monsters (Dragreder, Dragranzer, Volcancer, Magnugiga, Deswilder, etc..) I love Ryuki, its my Favorite out of all Heisei.

i watched dragon knight as a kid and just watched ryuki recently, and i love it with all my heart. the last couple of episodes actually made me cry, which was crazy to me considering how silly the show started out. i even bought a mode kit of ryuki because his aesthetic fucks so hard, i’m finna have to give the show a rewatch now lol

Why does Asakura’s backstory sounds so reminiscent of Carnage and his symbiote? I think the “silly and upbeat music” was just supposed to give off the noir feel with cops and criminals in the frame.

As a guy who listens to Ryuki's OST regularly, can confirm with the music. I don't see where Marco's gets "silly and upbeat" from this track. Heck the title of the track is called "Evil Shadow". I don't see/hear the happiness in this track.

I actually like Ryuki's OST. Sure, it sounds out of place sometimes, but it's also pretty unique compared to other Toku (kind of like how Megaranger had a lot of jazz-like music). Also, who here thinks that Revolution is an awesome insert theme? ✋😁

I think you misinterpreted the "Ryuki is a story without heroes" statement. It doesn't mean "Ryuki is a story without good people" but that it doesn't have what in Japan is considered the fundamental of a hero - someone who saves lives while enacting poetic justice on evildoers. Shinji might be a good guy, but he's unable to save Tezuka, Mitsuru, Kitaoka, or Yui, and ultimately dies himself without ever truly accomplishing anything. Asakura is one of the most purely evil characters in the franchise, and yet he's only defeated by his own emptiness and lust for violence, not the heroism of the protagonists. That's the ultimate tragedy of Ryuki. The Rider War repeats over and over, continuing to see people die horribly, all because of Kanzaki's wish to save his sister, the one person who was a source of love in his miserable childhood, and that wish is confirmed to be impossible, meaning all the violence is for nothing. The only way to end the cycle is by making it so none of it happened, but that still means the Kanzaki siblings still die as children, and the bonds Shinji formed with the likes of Ren and Yui never happened. That's why I think Ryuki is so essential to the Rider mythos. It's a story which distils the core of the franchise into a battle of people with very specific worldviews, and the tragedy brought about by those worldviews. Rider is a franchise about heroes whose ideals clash with the world they find themselves in, and Ryuki made that kind of depth of exploration possible.

30:05. Well, it was not that odd that Ren wanted to fight. He had been told the night before that Eri only had a few days left to live, and he knew he had to win the Rider Battle as fast as possible to save her. I actually felt that episode was kinda uncomfortable, because you have Yui and Shinji dragging a deeply depressed guy to an amusement park.

Funny enough the writer of Madoka is a fan of Ryuki.

This was my first kamen rider. I remember being frustrated with the ending and not seeing the rest of the 13 riders. It felt rushed and I felt betrayed as I was watching it when it was being aired. The nostalgia though makes it hold a special place in my heart.

Man this brings me so much nostalgia! Ryuki was one of the first kamen rider shows I watched and being a kid and all, I was so distraught whenever the riders kept fighting each other more frequently lmaooo

I grew up on KR:DK, but because of my fondness for Dragon Knight I got into Ryuki easily and because of Ryuki I started learning about the other shows like Faiz, Decade, Gaim, and Kabuto

Ryuuki gives me insight into people's desires and wishes how pure is it and how corrupt is it, Ryuuki is not about justice or freedom is deeper. most people maybe don't understand this because it's too deeper for a kid's show. they in the end just fight for the wish of their brother saving her sister they just a sacrificial pawn, in the end, Ryuuki showing that their selfish wish and their own view is ultimately the one who ends them. rider time is fuck up but shows us inside a selfish wish there a 13 rider fighting inside it, it shows our action and our wish is also intertwined with others, there no way out if you want something you need to fight and survive to gain your desire and wish.

I remember back in like 9th grade during summer school I would be watching the original 3 part release of this and the Dragon Knight history of too. Those were what got me into Kamen Rider really, and now I cry everytime I see a csm belt for sale because they're too expensive and will kill my nonexistent credit.

I love Ryuki because the Riders look amazing, the story is great, the concept is awesome and it was the very first Kamen Rider series I fully watched

the first student is not a random student. Shiro, Ren's girlfriend and him were studying mirror world together until the accident in 401 lab happened. He showed up when Shinji firstly investigate the 401 lab. Emperor is the correct translation bcuz it refers to his monster legion.

I've always said that Alternative is a Kamen Rider by the franchise definition, but he's not a proper Rider by Ryuki standards due to the fact that he doesn't have a deck that Kanzaki created. Essentially, it's because he's a knock-off.

Most satisfying to me

I get the reason alternative is a pseudo rider, for one it uses an artificial buckle and deck, as well as him not officially being confirmed by shiro kanzaki. Not to mention that he uses a different buckle and the deck can be mass produced, alternative zero being the first one made

This was the series I used as a gateway that got one of my friends into Kamen Rider.

I was a huge fan of this series...as such I went on a hunt to complete all 13 riders soft vinyl series...the ones in boxes. The ending was a let down since everything was reset and the bond/stories between the riders did not happen. Kinda twilight zone type of ending. Nonetheless, I think in term of storyline of the Heisei era riders...Ryuki has to be my #1, followed by Blade #2 and W #3 Thanks to Marcosatsu for the nostalgia! - A 40yr old dad with a 2 yr old kid

Tbh, I sort of liked the ending, especially with the Time Loop meta-story going on. Helps to show the only good ending for the Rider War is not someone winning, but for it never to happen

For those wondering the song playing during the part when he talks about the endings. Its "Aria of the soul" from the Persona franchise. Before he got into the Episode Final movie.

Seen Ryuki years back then, don't think I actually finish it on my first watch. Then years later when I heard one of my favorite anime- madoka magica, was heavily, like Heavily Inspire by Ryuki. I rewatch the the show again and now Ryuki is one of my top Kamen Rider series.

this series is good because the viewer can be both children and adult. the character interaction and development along with horror mystery is what made this series so awesome.

14:11 guess I'm not the only one who likes Kamen Rider Scissors 😁. For real though,I like Scissors because of the suit motif. I'm born in July, which makes me a Cancer (bias, I know) but also the way the suit combines elements of crab and a knight together goes so well. Also, gold is a great colour for that suit.

Im not a tokusatsu fan, but I start watching kamen riders 2 years ago cuz im a sucker for cool super hero suits, and ryuki's premise alone got me interested to the point of adding it on the list to watch in the future. TBH i expected it to be slow and boring but because i watch the battle royal movie and I know how crazy it was back then with yugioh and Pokémon I said to myself let me try it out. I never expected how deep this season was. Its not perfect but I can see now in 2021 why ryuki for some was a big deal

I got 20 episodes in but all i remember is Yui shouting "Ren" every five minutes lol. I need to finish it

Well in the main show, kitaoka has the butler as his replacement. In the movie, well Kitaoka’s monster was never known for being fast or even mobile at all so Kitaoka can forfeit with out having to worry being chase across town.

You know. I always thought I never saw Ryuki when I found out about it. That I only saw Dragon Knight. But when watching this some of the plot points and scenes were so familiar that I might have actually watch the series or some of the episodes. It was probably in Filipino while I lived in the Philippines since I can’t recall it and even back then English was my first language. Can’t believe Impale the con man was the one I remembered the most. And a bit of the lawyer, mostly that scene where he drops his phone. And the con man asking to be paid. I agree with you on Impale’s suit. I didn’t like it either in Kamen Rider Dragonknight at first, but over the years it grew on me. I think I started mostly noticing the details when I realized that he had access to more advent beasts than the others.

I have a theory that the Ryuga we see in the Final Episode is actually Shinji's own reflection manifested by Kanzaki. This is because in most timelines, Ryuki ends up being the one to foil his plans. Therefore, what better way to stop him once and for all than with someone who is the complete opposite? Or rather, his reflection

Ive always thought kenzaki planned for both ren and shinji to get the survived cards cause they were close to yui.

I didn't personally give a shit about Imperer, he was obnoxious, annoying and his arc was completely out of place in the final part of the series while also dragging Tiger's arc past its welcome. It adds nothing to the story.

While Dragon Knight and Ryuki are two entirely different shows, I feel like they really complement each other. I love Ryuki for it's designs, it's dark yet great story, it's card motif, and it's electronica soundtrack. Dragon Knight still has the dark yet great story, but it's dialed back a little and definitely feels more dated than Ryuki in some respects. But I still love it for what it is and helping me discover Toku

34:46 I think the intention was for Imperer's name to be similar to Impala (and impaler as you said), since his form is supposed to be based on impalas and gazelle. But the way they spelled it in Engrish leads to a lot of confusion. I especially hate this with Cross-Z from Build. When scans first leaked, his named was though to be Claws like it's written as クローズ (Kurōzu), which would've at least made sense. Buuuut it ended up being Cross-Z.

Ahh Ryuki’s ending. The first, but certainly not the last instance where the end of a Kamen Rider series results in a world reset.

Takeshi Asakura for me is the break out character in the Ryuki series. I always think that a sociopath with only fighting and killing on his mind is cool.

"[the special] acknowledges the shows ending, rather than the movie's ending we see in zio's season" the special also acknowleges the season as recently happened, so, weird time paradox involved? for once in a time-centric season? also, in the special we don't see "kenzaki" transform, which makes me advance ANOTHER theory: Odin is Kenzaki's equivalent of Ryuuga, but where ryuuga fights for overtake shinji's life, both odin and enzaki wants their sisters to survive (and Zio's serie messed up the ending where this happens) on the "overwhelmingly number of riders during the design phase", I find weird how little there is on crossovers with pokemon; I know KR is leww widelly spread than others, but we get still a good chunk of fanworks, it would seem pretty immediate...

So glad to see the stock music brought up. A bit that played in ORE Journal's office at the start of episode 29 took me a couple hours to find, and it was so worth it. Midnight in Portmore from the Universal Production Music, Music Of The World II Collection. Great stuff.

Despite some of its flaws, Ryuki is one of my favorite Heisei Rider seasons. Hell, Ryuki is my favorite Heisei Rider PERIOD. I liked how you talked about the different timelines. There's also the novel written by Toshiki Inoue. It's.. Uh.. I'll let you find out. Also, I apologize if this comes off as obnoxious on my part, but the Kamen Rider Tiger that's seen in Rider Time: Ryuki actually isn't Tojo. It's a new character named Tozuka. Again, I apologize if that sounded rude. Personally, despite its problems, I kinda like Rider Time: Ryuki. I just wish that it was 10 episodes instead of 3. That way, it would have had a lot more character development. I was also kind of disappointed to see that Femme wasn't in the spin off (her actress was giving birth to her 2nd child when it was being filmed). Oh well, maybe someday....

@@CFSF69 Just realized now that you were talking about the novel, where Asakura LITERALLY eats sh*t. I thought you were talking about Rider Time: Ryuki, where Asakura gets his ass handed to him. Is it me, or does the novel version of Asakura seem WAY more screwed up than he was in the show? Then again, this is the same writer who also did "555: Deformed Flowers". You know, the novel where THAT thing happend that I won't say out loud....

I think people are overcomplicating Ryuga, so i think that Evil Shinji just appears because of Yui.

Come on man, you said it yourself; Ryuki was the FIRST series to "aaactually" experiment and do things a "little" differently, so you can't call it vanilla by today's standards :P if anything Ryuki PAVED the way for series like DCD or Gaim for years to come ~ And yes Urobutcher said he did grab elements from Ryuki to make Madoka, so him making Gaim (which also became 1 if my top 5 series) really comes full circle. Also Fate Stay Night copied Ryuki too which is why I used to hate it until I got into Fate Zero :P It's said by some sources that Kanzaki gave the Odin decks to random honeless guys to transform, and once they did the decks themselves would take over kinda the AI of G-DenO, and he had multiple Odin decks so that each time an Odin died he'd just find another replacement. But hey nothing wrong with wanting to investigate the mysteries surrounding an unknown, it puts you on the path of becoming a "journalist" ;)

The thing about this series that really gets me is how it is delivered to the audiences. The new concept and other things like the personalities and connections of each characters. This is the only series where there is one character that is willing to slaughter other characters just for fun LOL. Damn, Kamen Rider Ouja is a mindless murderer. Despite the backlashes and complains from old audiences (who got used to the typical rider series). I still love this show, and I put this on my number 1 list, I don't care what people say. I even collected all the action figure of this series, it cost me almost $2000 xD hahhaha Kamen Rider Ryuki is

You left off a huge detail involving Tezuka and Kido. Tezuka first saw Ryuki dying to Ouja. Tezuka decided to change fate by taking the blow for Ryuki, thus killing himself.

50% of the dialogue in Ryuki is "Tatakai" and the other 50% is "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN". That said, I've watched Kamen Rider from the original 71 series all the way to Blade (nearly finished it), and Ryuki is definitely my second favorite heisei series, after Kuuga. I was hooked on Ryuki from the first episode, and while I don't think it really stuck the landing with it's ending(s), I adored nearly every moment of it. I tell people it's about a shonen hero who accidently winds up in a seinen death game, and tries to convince the others to give it up...but they instead convince him to join it. Plus Kitaoka/Goro is my OTP, lol

37:02 Ryuki was the 2nd toku series I ever watched (after Hurricanger) and DAMN...that scene of Mitsuru stuck in the mirror world was insane, there are a lot of moments in Ryuki that honestly felt very much like indie film, (experimental camera angles etc.) and this was one of them. Never thought tokusatsu could be anything like this, mind was blown.

A remake I've been waiting for. I remember back when one of the part (this video used to be a three parter) is missing.

Im sad this episode was slimmed down. Personally i think adding on the secret truth of Tezuka’s death would have been a great idea. Oh well. Great job slimming down all three videos into one

These are my favourite Rider designs, and not just because I liked the Dragon Knight show as a kid.

Ryuki was my 1st original Kamen Rider entry I watched thanks to watching Dragon Knight when I was in 4th-5th grade and the power of the internet. After re-watching it after so long earlier in March this year, Ryuki still holds the title of my absolute favorite rider season. Words cannot *describe* how much I love this show. This show contains so many things I loved in from: 1. The suits designs. 2. The Final Vents (Which are still my favorite rider finishers to this day and I memorized each of the names for them, and yes they have names). 3. My favorite rider bromance of Shinji and Ren. 4. The simple on paper yet deep plot which makes a *very* unique and cool metaplot with the Episode Final and 13 Riders mixed in. 5. Shiro Kanzaki (Who I find a heavily underrated KR villain). 6. My favorite Kamen Rider in the franchise, Kamen Rider Verde. 7. The great insert songs. 8. The Monsters of the Week: The Mirror Monsters 9. The huge number of riders (that would also have the most riders in a show until Gaim comes along). I love this show to death man. I could answer some of those questions you had in the video Marcos, but I warn you if you accept the comment might be somewhat long...

Its Imperor, due to his goat like aesthetic, I believe it to be reminiscent of the Leader of the Horde, or even a religious nod. Though Impaler seems cool, the only think supporting that is his horns. His contract monster summons multiple, his final vent is an all-out attack of mirror monsters. It only makes sense if he was the Imperor, but I understand your struggle.

Ryuki is such a master piece not only in the show is great but so many Japanese novel and shows are inspire by it.

100% accurate.

I've always held to the belief that every one of the endings occured with kanzaki ultimately hitting reset and trying again after his plans fail. A new life for me is the final ending with Kanzaki finally giving up on his crusade.

29:51 the reason he gave ryuki the survive card is most likely because he should be the only rider to be able to use the flame survive card. There’s 3 different survive cards wind fire and mugen most of the riders need the mugen survive card which is kamen rider odin’s survive card. He has the mugen card in his advent deck but never used it in the show I believe he would never give any of em the survive mode card if the story was written better giving ryuki the survive mode card is stupid but doesn’t hurt him but giving ouja the survive mugen card would be a threat to him as those who use the mugen survive card should be on pair with Odin

I preferred if survive cards appeared on ur deck when ur on the verge of death but ur will to survive is strong enough u materialize it. Makes it more survive-y and makes it feel like u need to earn it

The only season that looked better in a lower framerate was Hibiki. 30 FPS episodes looked crisp and smooth, while 60 FPS episodes looked blurry and less crisp in general.

One of my favorite Kamen Riders of all time without Kamen Rider Ryuki I wouldn't watch all the riders up to now Kamen Rider Saber =)
