Suda Masaki was only 16 years old when he shoot this series, pairing with Kiriyama Ren who is 8 years his senior, and yet they gave us a marvelous chemistry. For me that's my most favorite part of this series

I never had an issue with Phillip coming back. I thought the point was more that Shotaro didn't actually need to be completely independent. At least not yet. Sometimes its okay to lean on each other. Kind of like how everyone in the show pokes fun at Shotaro for being "half-boiled" even though that's part of what makes him such a great character and Kamen Rider

Philip passing away is one of the most touching, if not The Most touching moments in Kamen Rider History. Kiriyama Ren, the actor of Hidari Shotaro is a real life fanboy of Kamen Rider. So he cameos whenever he can. Kamen Rider W is the start of continuity of all phase 2 riders, which you see the next rider and the previous one show up in the same movie, much like Power Rangers

I love it whenever actors who grew up loving kamen rider are able to land roles in these shows

The "eyes" actually don't light up signifying whomever is speaking. The eye lights up only when the "soul" portion of the rider is speaking. Philip's side represents the soul of W while Shotaro's side represents the body of W. Notice how it only lights up whenever Philip is talking. Another example of this is in the FangJoker form of W. In this form, the soul and body of W is switched, and Philip is the body and Shotaro is actually the soul. Whenever Shotaro talks, the right side of the visor lights up. Its a cool little detail indeed!

So fun fact about Riku Sanjo. Before getting into screenwriting he was a manga writer who published in Shonen Jump. His two major works before getting into Toku were Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai and Beet the Vandel Buster. Now here's some fan speculation on why he's great with character writing pertaining specifically to the partner dynamic and why the last episode of W was the way it was. Up until he switched to screen, the two manga's that Sanjo worked on were illustrated by Koji Inada. The two of them described their partnership as a "50/50 between the know-how from the long years we've been a team, and tackling new difficulties." Their partnership started in 1989 and was suddenly put on a very long pause in 2006 due to Inada becoming seriously ill. After that Sanjo hung up his manga career and focused on screenwriting. You could say W was a sort of letter of friendship to Inada with the last episode as an "I wish you'll recover soon." Inada has since recovered and in 2016 he and Sanjo teamed up once again to continue making manga.

It's no coincidence that W and Drive are two of the best seasons, especially since they were both written and directed by a creator of detective fiction and made the show "Robot and Sexy Voice". Part of the intro even matches the R&SV's opening art style. Also, the female characters actually add to the story and weren't just there. Also, the Japanese dub of Sonic Colors uses the Same Voice work for the Wisps as the gaia memories. One more thing.........NEVER HATE ON AKIKO!

3:57 One thing I love about the suit is how the various different textures play into the W motif, I feel like I notice a new W in the fine details every time I see it on screen. Double strikes the perfect balance between being a simple return-to-form while also committing to its theming in subtle ways, which is just so cool to me.

This does leave a smile on my face that you are doing a history of Kamen Rider W. It's one of my favorite Kamen Rider series next to Gaim and a few others. W has a simple premise and it works so well. Not to mention the characters are great and the music as well. I love the opening theme and the insert themes too with my favorites being Cyclone Effect and Finger on the Trigger. The Acoustic version of Cyclone Effect... it can really drive you to tears. Yeah. Part of me is going to want to rewatch W again.

Shotaro's actor once came to San Diego for a comic-con typed of event couple years ago

I would have preferred it if they didn't revive phillip straight after, what they could have done is after the time skip dopants slowly start returning, then we could have some episodes with Kamen rider joker and we could also have Akiko play a more involved role as Phillip is gone ,Terrui could also be involved in more fight scenes which would give the possibility for really good choreography with shoutaro and actually give these two more bonding time instead of just one movie

In my opinion, I think the reason why the suits in Kamen Rider W are all awesome is because the designs are simple and not ridiculously overly designed

I think kamen rider w Is the only kamen rider show to make me cry ....that part where shotaro dehenshins and phillip dies ooh saddest moment and the part where phillip accepts shotaro as his one and only partner ooh the feels the feels

Kamen Rider W has to be my favorite kamen rider season out of all the different kamen riders. Good acting, good story, amazing suit, has by far my favorite driver out of all kamen riders (prefer the more compact drivers), and some of the best music. Glorious Street has to be my second favorite song from the season; only losing to the OP song.

Accel’s backstory seems really similar to lupinrangers backstories. Mostly in the iced family that shatters when the main character comes they shatter

I love shroud's explanation for the maximum drive of trial she says that in order for that finisher to work you have to keep hitting the enemy until they are pulverized.

Although W isnt my first KR, but it is my fav. The last episode is kinda beautiful, think about the time in the show, Shotaro and Philip couldnt work without each other, the moment they meet again after a year was a sweet ending in the shoe and I enjoyed it. I tend to think tooooooo deep in the arts of shows, W is one of the show that I still think about its beauty (along with GARO, Jojo, etc)

I remember when I started watching W, I honestly don't remember watching a series that I was so invested in. I had (and still have) the ost on repeat blasting through my headphones. I had some of the guys i work interested in the series when I'd go on rants and spazz fests about the series. Hell, I had been watching episode 48 on my lunch break and i had been in tears cuz our bois. I got teased by my love for the series, but I honestly didn't and still don't care. Kamen Rider W is my favorite Kamen Rider. I love almost everything about the series and what i don't like is what is considered universal by the fandom. I go back to it at least once a year and fawn over it and i always get misty when i hear Cyclone Effect (Acoustic Version).

So, the Futo detectives manga is basically pretty much the script for the anime that is coming out next year.

Honestly I have to agree, Eji and Go both lost their best friends and now have vowed to revive them one day and I like that, when Ahnk and Chase died and didn't get revived it left a hole in hearts and we feel joy whenever Ahnk is revived in films and we see Eji even more determined to bring him back like Go is trying to do with Chase

Well. Now its nice for philip to survive cus now we have anime sequel

Very late but the eye-glowing thing when they talk only applies when it's not their body. For instance, when using their normal forms, Philip's side glows when he talks but Shotarou's doesn't because he just uses his body's mouth to talk. Likewise, when they use FangJoker, it is Shotarou's side which glows when he talks and Philip's side is absent of glow. When they're in Xtreme, they both glow when they speak. Because it looks cool and it'd be lame if they didn't glow.

As always, disclaimer: opinion might(should) differ, but... I LOVE the fact Double actually goes with its' theme up to eleven, to the point of giving itself TWO ENDINGS?! Like, you will not tell me ep 48 is not a good, emotional ending to the story, but you also won't convince me episode 49 wasn't essentially a Kamen Rider W move. I mean, it's Kamen Rider, if it has a disappearing main cast they at the very least become literal gods, so. You know. Unless you wanted to have an omnipotent Phillip... All jokes aside, you can obviously see I'm the fan of ep 49, if only because it wouldn't feel fine to give closure to Shoutaro's journey, without finishing Phillip's journey as well. Yes, I consider ep. 49 to be finishing history of the Sonozaki family. And you know, as in every fairy tale, the middle child cannot be the last one standing, Wakana was doomed from the start (I'm sorry princess, but I'm speaking from experience), so. I was sure they will use her as a plot device... in my personal opinion, having the season have two endings, as polarizing as characters were, is a perfect continuity nod, but. Look, disclaimer :D

I can finally watch this after finishing it without worrying about spoilers. Anyway, W is without question my favorite season tied with Build, and Shoutaro/Philip are tied with Sento for my favorite Kamen Rider. The story was so freaking good and the action was incredible, and it also has some of my favorite side characters in the franchise, with Akiko being probably my favorite Rider Girl. Overall, I can now understand why this show is so beloved and I’m glad I gave it another shot.

Ryu was my first ever favourite kamen rider, even though I never got around to properly watching Double until this year. He… is so important to me, especially with his story of overcoming PTSD, breaking a cycle, and learning how to love again. There are so many reasons I needed a story like that, and I’m happy I can see it again.

Seriously!? No one is gonna talk about how much of a badass Eternal is!?

I love how you started this one like: Its a good series I guess, and then by 25% in you almost cry thinking of nobody is perfect. Its W man, a heart-full series

Most likely, it was at Japan World Heroes in 2017 I believe, which was a convention for all tokusatsu in California. Shotaro's actor was a guest there, so that's how they met.

If it wasn't for Akiko W might be my favorite Rider show, sadly she's featured so heavily it really drags the show down for me. It wasn't even the actresses fault as I didn't mind her in the role she had for the Crystal Skull movie.

I always love the homage to V3 of having Accel's parents and little sister killed.

I have the same opinion as you about the last episode. I think a history where Shotaro finally realize that Phillip is gone and he must look at the future because that is what his partner would want is interesting for a character like Shotaro.

Double is such a good start of the Second Phase in so many ways. Begins Night is probably both a great way to reveal the truth of Double's birth... at the same time it makes me mad because Decade needed its own movie to properly ends the series... WHICH MEH. Still I like the concept of "Will you ride with the devil?" line. Also Terui was a good secondary rival. A lot of the cast was great and fun. You know what's neat, Double got a manga and introduced Fang-Trigger Double form. Why couldn't we get that one and Fang-Metal form. IMAGINE THE POTENTIAL! ... I agree, Episode 48 should have been the last episode to keep the part of Phillip's wish to Shotarou and we could have moved on *eyes OOO* THOUGH we did SORT OF got that... BUT again I have a mix feeling there too. Still, Double is such a good series. I love every bit of it. The mystery, the story, the fight scenes, etc. AND I GOTTA SAY IT BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T BE ME: Double is another rider series that beats Ryuki. ;)

This was my second Rider series, and I absolutely love it.

I havent listened to cyclone effect for a while and yup, I still cry listening to that song. The emotions felt with that scene are still so powerful

Also hearing how you praised Gaim in HOKR Drive that's one i'm seriously looking forward too as it has become one of my favorite Rider series. Double is great show but I like series that have more Riders besides two. We not only get to see new heroes but awesome villains like Gold Drive, Ouja, Duke, Chronos and my boy Evolto who is a great villain who I just love to see on screen every time

This video was amazing if I had to critique anything it's that when you mentioned the visor lighting up it's supposed to only light up when Philip is talking the only instance where lights up when she'll Tara was talking is when they are in fang joker form because Philip is the physical body and shotaros mind enters the form

I beg to disagree with Raito getting resurrected is in bad taste. His resurrection is basically a character development for the Sonozaki Family in particular, the elder sister, in which the family at their core, they're not really bad people, only misguided in helping humanity.

Kamen Rider W was the first series that got me into Tokusatsu

The charm of W is that it's a detective story through and through. It heavily has the vibes of Batman TAS, which was considered to be the greatest of the DCAU series. the Kamen Rider is the focus of the series, but the fights don't feel like they're contrived to just have tokusatsu suit actors brawling it out (like some of the lesser Tokus, where sometimes the monster was just there to fulfill an obligation). Oh and it having an actual budget really helps. This contrasts heavily with OOO which could have been good if it had a better budget and more coherent writing.
