    🎃🎃🎃🍩🍩🍩 You know, ever since I first tried turnip carving in 2007, I found it far more fun than I've ever had pumpkin carving...and, after a night with a tea light in the turnip that's lit, it dries it out nicely and shrinks it slightly and makes an even more interesting little face by the morning! I highly recommend anyone who hasn't tried it to do so--you won't be disappointed! ;) Also: thank you for your appearance on Jeffrey Mishlove's livestream earlier today! I hope you liked my question, and I thought your answer was superb! ;)

    Halloween is roughly halfway twixt the Autum Equniox and Winter Solstice.Those county names are long and Hertfordshire easily confused with Herefordshire.They we're ment to be restoring the old counties which were altered in 1974 but instead we've ended up with tons of Unitary Authorities and Mayors.

    I’m from the 🇬🇧 I wouldn’t say Halloween is Christian but the Christians sure did try to make it into All Souls’ Day as of Yule into Xmas as to why in Latin America that’s more Catholic November first is the day of the dead.the holidays celebrated by the western world is very seasonal centric Halloween means death and darkness as the trees turn orange the harvest be over the days get shorter.almost the new cycle to suggest summer is over.yule is to suggest were deep in winter with the forest being dead but the ever green tree that’s decorated.as of Easter that suggests fertility as everything come back to life again.so the Celtic holidays can be seen with ur own eyes via pagan routes living in a Celtic country. But yeah from my knowledge being born in the 90s bonefire night was more of a big deal and Halloween was just the sidekick still 2 autumn holidays.but now it’s Halloween getting bigger don’t know if that’s due to American cultural heagomany or the fact our government don’t trust us with fireworks and forcing us to go to displays instead.since we were the British empire we never got an Independence Day to light fire works since ppl got there independence from us.but yeah then in the 2000s the whole war on terror stuff started to happen and technically Guy Fawkes was the celebration of a terrioust.some try to justify its the defeat of a terrioust as we burn his effigy.but that sounds like a pagan worship ritual in itself.and it’s still called Guy Fawkes night.yes in the 2000s in primary school I do remember schools trying to discourage it for that reason.however that poison candy scare did happen which did stop trick or treating just as ppl were about to reaccept it again.since I notice I used to go out as a kid in the 90s but barley anyone show up on ur door in the 2000s.then by the 2010s ppl stopped caring anymore were more secular they have both made a come back but Halloween is the bigger autumn holiday now.as of post Covid it’s not relly done anything to stop ppl now fully accepting it’s just fun and not this evil occult holiday.

    I suggest that folks check out CraftCailleach, Diaries of a Ditch Witch, and Irish Pagan School for Authentic Irish sources about Samhain in Ireland. Also please never use the term British Isles. Its incorrect, disrespectful, outdated and just plain wrong. Ireland is Not British. Do Better Dr Puca.

    8 ай бұрын

    @@Frithogar I have above, they are native Irish sources that are very well researched. Dr Puca is off the mark on this video and the previous one, though I'm told she is normally much better and vets her sources better than she did Stations of the Sun. The terms depend on where is actually being referred to. Is it just the UK? Then the UK, though I'd encourage looking for what folks actually living in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have to say, it's definitely out there already, to see if they would prefer individual country mentions. If referring to part of the UK but not all I'd suggest listing the countries referred to such as Scotland, and Wales. Again check with what folks of the living cultures have to say. If it's UK, and Isle of Mann, then "UK and Isle of Mann", the Isle of Mann is not part of the UK. If it's the UK and the Republic of Ireland, the Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK and should never be referred to as such. "The British Isles" is a term of erasure and colonialism. There is a long and very difficult history there that isn't that far in the past for Ireland.

  • @Frithogar

    @Frithogar

    @@SorbusAvery I'm sorry, you are going to have to help me. I searched the transcripts of the three sites you mentioned, for any reference to the British Isles being a derogatory and colonialist term for the geographical group of islands, but could not find anything. I would appreciate it if you could tell me which videos to look for. I find this fascinating, as the word "British" derives from the ancient Celtic word Britto - which refers to the inhabitants of the islands we are talking about and Brittany. www.etymonline.com/search?q=British I would be very grateful as it would save me having to contact them and ask them directly.

  • @SorbusAvery

    @@Frithogar thank you for looking. I'm not sure which of their content (social media, courses, or other) that it was discussed in. I will reverse this though. Can you find good modern Irish content from Irish creators where it is used? And is it Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland? Again I'm less familiar with Scottish and Welsh preferences. There's lots of language that has been used in the last 400 years that's now racist, classist, ablest, colonialist or just inaccurate or vague. What I can tell you is that I have been told by Irish and Northern Irish people to not use the term. I'm sure you can think of other words and terms that cultures(particularly ones that have been oppressed and had certain words used against them or to erase them by the oppressors) have said the same about.

    Anyway I don't want to add to the engagement anymore on this video so this is my last. As you are one of Dr Puca's top contributors maybe you can ask her to check in on this in the modern context as well as fact check her last video and get better sources than Stations of the Sun. I have actually heard she is better than this and the previous content that says Samhain is not a Fire Festival in areas that are Celtic when it is in at least one, Ireland, and has been historically documented (and I will confidently say the sources above do have great info on that on and off of KZread). And hey if she checks with places like UCD, UCC, Rathcroghan, Uisneach and I'm wrong what a great video that will make.

    🎃🌾🌖🍻🥮 Fascinating! Particularly the tradition of the rich giving Soul Mass cakes to the poor, the poor seeking alms from their wealthier neighbors and the poor reciting couplets to pray for the souls of the departed. Interesting that the educational reforms in 1870 prevented the poor youth from practicing the tradition of All Soul’s Day.
