I got caught up in Gerry's funeral courtage by mistake as the cops didn't shut off a little used lane but as a local boy I negotiated the traffic not knowing what the holdup was , I got halted by a very irate police officer and the cars had to drive round me , it was very embarrassing and I slid down my chair as mourners glared at me as they drove by , RIP Gerry you were an amazing talent .
Gerry Rafferty was a musical genius. Every song he performed and produced was gold.
So much more than just Baker Street. My 7 year old boy loves Gerry Rafferty's songs just as much as I do.
Thanks Martin for an insight into Gerry's background, he was a very gifted person and musician, his music lives on.
Gerry Rafferty sold millions of albums but never sold his soul .Whatever's written in your heart that's all that matters . Thanks for tribute Martin .

Billy Taggart56 Appreciate your post.
Gerry's music speaks to my soul. Thanks for this.
A truly great singer/songwriter. R.I.P. Gerry. Irreplaceable
Gerry rafferty=GENIUS
Love the music of Gerry Rafferty, and love Paisley very much, I studied for my BA Languages Undergraduate Degree in Paisley University, now UWS-University of the West of Scotland. Fond memories. Thank you very much for posting.
Thank you for this. I grew up with Baker Street on the radio a lot, and was one of my favorites, that and "Hold the Line" from Toto. Those two decades had the best in music, followed by the harder rock scene in the 90's. The world lost a great artist with the passing of Gerry.
The song Baker Street, the album City to City was a historical marker in my life. This music was that strong, that potent, to affix a time and place onto my own personal timeline.
I was killing time in w mart one day and looking through albums for sale. I never linger in stores usually. Get what I need and get out. But I found City to City and said holy smokes I love this album. My Mom had it when I was young and we listened to it when we moved to AZ. From VT. Incredibly by chance I came upon it and bought it. I found out a couple days latter tha Gerry had died acouple days ago. I think that I chanced upon it the day that he died. I love that album.
Great tribute Martin. Gerry never forgot his Paisley roots. Hopefully we´ll see more about Gerry as his extended musical work becomes more better known, because he never commercialised himself.
Great musician,very underrated!
Very enjoyable short history of the great musical man ! Thank you !
Lovely to know that a genius has been honoured with a street named after him.
Remember him when he used to record with Billy Connolly and they were known as The Humblebums! Even then, you could tell he was going to be a legend; have always been a massive fan and consider his recordings to be the soundtrack of my life...his legacy is his music and how it did, and still has, the power to affect so !many people's lives! Rest in peace, Scotland's legend and an internationally beloved, and much underrated, singer/ songwriter 🙏🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕💕

Billy Connolly? Was he the Keyboardist for the David Paton's band Pilot in the 1970's?
My mom was also born on April 16
Awesome tribute to Gerry Rafferty. I've been listening to him on and off since he passed away. He had a beautiful voice.
Fantastic musician was rafferty...
Great work Martin, I really enjoyed that. Gerry Rafferty was a real stealth bomber in the the music charts and it takes people like you to do the job he didn't want to do himself. If it helps to keep his music alive and bring it the attention of new listeners you'll have done him a sterling service.
Gerry was very underrated, he is a phenomenal guy.
Martin, thank you very much for this video .
Thanks for this Martin. My dad often reminds us that his brother- my Uncle Brian (Goodfellow) were mates at St. Mirin’s Academy and Reid Kerr College and that Gerry and Brian used to play music together at my grandparents’ house in Gallowhill Road.
Thank-you.
I got this in my recommendations and I’m so grateful. Thank you for this it’s wonderful. Euphoria has given his music a boost it so deserves. My song is ‘Right Down The Line’. Praying my Prince Charming finds me and loves the song as much as me! ☮️🎶♥️🍀
Gerry Rafferty defines the word Legend, i remember listening to endless radio in the hope of hearing Baker Street & how special i felt when i did get to hear it. Am i right in thinking that there is a statue somewhere of Gerry?
Gerry will be known for eternity.
I can’t believe Baker Street never got to number one. Two songs which are always in my top ten are Baker Street and The Right Moment both by Gerry Rafferty.

I can't believe it either considering it was the era of prog rock, this song fit the essence of that era of music perfectly. Who knows, maybe it did reach #1. I work in statistics so with the way that data can be counted, just one mistake in counting the data (or missing data) could have prevented his song from showing up at #1. Who knows.
I used to walk under that bridge every day going to school and up Underwood lane, Oakshaw High was the school and Greenhill road was where I lived. R.I.P. Gerry.

Looks like a miserable neighborhood. Hopefully you've moved to a nicer location.
It's been a few years now, but like Tom Petty, I can't believe he's gone x
loved night owl gerry,,,,thankyou
Keep up the good work Martin..
awesome job mate , i loved the guy .
Baker Street...My Song!!!
this is great!!!! great work Martin!
"Baker Street" peaked at #1 in Australia and stalled at #2 in Sydney, between March and June 1978.
Whatever's written in your heart, is all that matters 😥✌️
On a bus to Glasgow, I saw the sign for Paisley, made me think of Paisley shirts, I didn’t know Gerry was from Paisley.
Nice one. Well done,thanks
well done thank you
My dad Gordon Rafferty was born in Paisley Scotland 1920
Can anybody tell me..was there ever a biography of the great man,or anything ever written about his life? I would dearly love to know more about his life as a recording artist, songwriter etc.I know he was somewhat of a recluse when it came to that part of his life.PS Listen to 'Rest in Blue',the album that his daughter Martha helped compile and release recently. You wont be disappointed.RIP Gerry, you genius of a man.
Thank you for mentioning Joe Egan. He kind of gets glossed over in other Documentaries.
Very appropriate about dylan and the beattles!
I read that Gerry’s dad and grandpa were coal miners, my dad and my grandpas and I think at least three of my four great grandpas were coal miners so I thought that was a pretty cool factoid.

That's a hard job, not for the weak. My respect.
Shame Joe Egan isn't remembered or honored similarly; he was every bit Gerry's equal, just never managed a "Baker Street" of his own. Gerry's best work was with Stealers Wheel, in a Lennon/McCartney collaboration/competition with Joe.
Night Owl!
