A man with exceptional songwriting and singing talents, truly a giant in his craft, sadly taken far too early by the evil that alcohol is. RIP Gerry.

We point too much towards substances rather than actually facing the nastiness that exists regardless. If alcohol didn't exist then things would be better as they are? I think not.

In my opinion, alcohol is in itself not a bad thing if used respectfully and responsibly the evil in our world has been there from the beginning GOOD vs EVIL and as humans we have free will to choose. ❤ CHOOSE WISELY man will reap what they sow. Thank God for his mercy and grace where we find hope in a beautiful future ❤

Listen to what Billy Connolly had to say about Gerry - it really tells the story. And I admire his honesty - it would have been easy for him to just spout a few bland platitudes about his talent. But he was courageous enough to tell us the truth. Gerry was a tortured soul. I also believe his drinking strained and ended relationships. I once worked on a Billy Connolly TV special celebrating his talent in front of an invited audience. Gerry was to be invited because of their history. And while Billy accepted he had to be there, he was nervous about it. And he checked where he was to be seated because he didn't want him in his eyeline. This was a complicated relationship.

Two of the most familiar and the most beloved songs I grew up to. I miss these songs so much even though I listened to John Lennon’s Woman later as I grew older including many other childhood favorites. It’s so sad to lose both Gerry Rafferty and John Lennon. 13:53 'You Put Something Better' I sang this song with a pal of mine, Kenny Sloane (deceased), about 40 years ago. When I heard it here again, on this video, it reminded me of those times. Yes, it took me back to a different time, to 'the old days' and I thought; "Jeez, I remember that song, that was a great song" - and it was a good song , it was, in fact, a great song. I'm still gigging today. I use a computer to program my songs, and I still do gigs. I will program this song - You Do Something Better' - and I'll darn-well gig it at my Saturday afternoon gig in Glasgow, every Saturday afternoon, in Glasgow's Star Bar (Eglinton Toll) and I'm pretty-sure our lovely, regular, and not so regular customers will love it. I live in Paisley, not so far from where Gerry is from (just coincidence) and if you want to hear this cracking song again then come along to hear me (and Ronnie) at the gig every Sat afternoon. Incidentally, I'll attribute the song to both Gerry Rafferty and to Joe Egan. Gerry, I never knew you personally, but I reckon I'd have enjoyed a natter with you, absolutely. What a great turn you were, mate.👍 Thanks, Dave Lennon

Nice to find this interview. The first thing I heard was Stuck In The Middle which I had on a musiccassette containing the hits of that year. I was nine years old. It's almost 50 years later now and I still listen to his music. His music really stood the test of time. I've been to Scotland twice (I live in The Netherlands) but I hope to visit again and when I do I make sure I'm going to play a Gerry Rafferty song at some point, probably in a pub, during my visit.

A favorite artist since I heard the Baker St collection,(late 1970's) maybe being scottish-Irish(england-wales, to) had so much to do with it, raised in New England from the states his music touched me, away at school in the mid-west(1976-1980) from family and friends, I took to his lyrics and that perfect & smooth vocal delivery, and that MUSIC, sometimes his melancholy crept through and would transport me to another time , Gerry a shy, reclusive guy who had more talent on his little finger, I watched his career all the way to his untimely death, sad the way it all played out but what a talent. Heard him do the old beautiful celtic treasure, She moved through the fair and I just feel his soul, my scottish side came to America from Arbroath, Scotland, all 8 kids after their parents died 1900-1912 period. Just a fantastic legend hard to get out of your head once you hear all his music RIP

I love that song and so does my dog - she sings along with me when I sing it to her. I kid you not!
