Historic Flooding Left Us Standed | Typhoon Egay Onslaught

Historic Flooding from Typhoon Egay left us stranded. For 3 days we've been stranded by flood waters and downed trees from the onslaught of Typhoon egay. Many in our area experienced catastrophic damage to their homes. After speaking to many locals after one of our food and water runs we were told they had never in their life seen this type of flooding in this area. most of the northern portion of ilocos Sur and Northern Philippines experienced major damage. We ha ent heard from most of our Crew members for days and just pray they are OK.
We count ourselves fortunate as the flooding only came up 2 to 3 inches inside our home. We still have power thanks to our ecoflow and Internet with our starlink.

I'm so sorry to see the destruction all around, and will be praying for you all. Keep taking one step and one day at a time, because 'to everything there is a season' and this season will pass and you will be a stronger team for it. You've got a good head on your shoulders Richard - innovative, proactive, kind... and Donna is an amazing support - independent and strong, yet supportive, nurturing, and creative. Take care

OMG! That is so terrible. We also experienced a very strong typhoon in Cavite and we had knee deep flood water inside our house for almost 5 days. The latest was in 2022 when we had to carry my husband with copd and his oxygen tank upstairs. We cooked our food using our portable korean stove. It's a good thing that we have plenty of water and food in our pantry. We used oyr paper plates, paper cups, plastic spoons and fork for eating. We survived, but it took us a long time to clean our house. We thank God for helping us get through that challenge. Anyway, it's a good thing that your house is higher than the road (thanks to Papa Richard's foresight) because it is less prone to flood waters. It's also great that you have generators, which can really be very useful. Stay safe and God keep you all safe. 💖

Thank God that your house didn't get flooded too much and we never know what exactly will happen during a typhoon until it happens. Hopefully everyone in your area will be able to fully recover. I haven't been through a typhoon yet in the Philippines but I did go through the eruption of Taal on January 12, 2020 and thankfully where we have our house in Silang, Cavite it's about 12 miles (19km) north of the main crater but I'm not far enough away to escape the volcanic earthquakes neither am I far enough away to escape the volcanic ash.

This is not due to human activity, but occurs cyclically every 12,000 years on all planets of the solar system. To save ourselves and the planet, it's vital to build the *Creative* *Society,* where the life, safety and well-being of every person will be the main priorities. ...if planning was done correctly, you should have been advised to consult local flood mapping to determine possible inundations in your locality. Philippines has historically experienced over 600mm rainfall intensity every year. Chances are flooding will occur 100%. Now you have seen your property and surrounding community being flooded, the future living condition will not be desirable every rainy season unless you raise your ground floor even higher than they are now. I saw there are no cemented road yet and expect it that the road level will be even closer to your house finish floor level. Add to that you are close to a river and your place is a flood plain or water detention area. So again your flooding will occur regularly outside and inside the house. Keep safe.

This is exactly the reason we went on higher ground east side of Metro Manila as we used to stay in flood-prone area of the metro. We can't take this situation any longer knowing 20 typhoons hit PH yearly on the average.

This is the FIRST TIME that Ilocos Sur was this devastated by flood, and it's because of a super typhoon.. unlike Metro Manila where flood is a TRADITION where a simple 30 minute downpour can turn the city into a waterworld.

But all of the Philippines is prone. And I actually did review the risk assessment map of our area. And flooding was minimal to non existent. Vigan was more prone then we are. So it's not just about what can flood when a storm dumps 2 meters of rain. Almost everywhere and everyone is at risk. It's a typhoon!!!

It's the LOCATION! If the place or area is elevated, no matter how strong the typhoon is, it won't be flooded! I have lived in Ilocos Sur and Metro Manila, have witnessed all typhoons that hit Philippines, but since we lived on higher ground , our place wasn't flooded! I've witnessed typhoon Ondoy, but remember that the Marikina river overflowed, that caused floods in the areas nearby..same with those places near rivers, or seas, when they overflow, it cause floods brought about by heavy rains ! Donna might be a wise woman but not SMART enough to do some research before she invests on something big..they live on a rice field, plain and open area..think this isn't the first time it happened to them?there was a vlog I saw they were also flooded? Remember, Philippines is typhoon prone , specially northern Luzon..check the history..

This is the saddest part of Philippines, its very prone to natural disasters like typhoons & earthquakes. Ever since I was a child, I thought it was normal until I learned the geography. My advise to you is to store foods that can be used in a matter of half a year, cause when the rainy seasons come (July - November) the country is gonna get hit by minimum of at least 7 storms/typhoons that can cause severe flooding. maintain light objects that can easily salvage into the 2nd floor of your house and maybe consider to have a 3rd floor for supplies incase of calamities. Hope you guys are okay, if you need help, don't hesitate to contact your local government unit. Forgot to advise, for recovery, store solar panel and solar batteries that can be easily install and use after the storm for electricity, or a generator that can be used using fuel. also buy power banks for your mobile phones. I know that can be expensive but it was very worth it when you badly need it.

I guess Richard will be able to come up again with something on how to make sure the flood will not reach the living area next time. But as I have said, if you live nearby a river or dam, there is nothing you can do about it. You just have to make sure you are always prepared when calamities like this happens.... Growing up in the province of Leyte too and almost 500 meters away from the shorelines facing the Pacific, our problem would always be the surge especially if the wind blows from the east. The hardest hit we got was during Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013. Twas the strongest according to my late father he has ever encountered. All our roof were blown away but the structure of the house is still good until now... we just have to change the way the roof was set up then to make sure that it will be just fine next time same scenario happens again. The good thing always is everybody is safe and sound.....!

Im so sorry that happened but I guess that is one of the problems in the northern part of the Philippines whenever there are monstrous rain especially brought by a typhoon... Praying for all your safety there guys! If there is a river or a dam nearby, the places surrounding the area will be flooded as expected... but I guess, the local authorities are going to give you a warning when you really need to move to a higher ground....

Wow…sorry to see this happening to you guys. After seeing flooding at the levels in South East Asia (Philippines - Thailand - etc), I would only build on a mountain slopes or cliff vs. flat land to avoid the risk of flooding/water/mud damage which is the worst in my opinion. Good luck with the repairs.

Flat or high ground are ideal to build a home. PH government needs better planning to prevent landslides and flooding... like building a huge flood basin catching all that rain water. Plus, concrete canals redirect the rain water out to sea! Venice, Norway, Japan, Amsterdam, had a system of flood control. BBM BAKA NAMAN PO!!!
