Historic 50 ft Minett cruiser is reborn and re-launched

After a 19th month restoration and a complete engine rebuild, this one-of-a-kind 50 foot Minett Day Cruiser "Rita" (17,000 pounds) is loaded on a flat-bed, transported and lifted by crane into the waters of Lake Muskoka. what a show...and an histoeric event!

Very pretty boat, i agree with the transport guys knowing what they are doing and how well they do their jobs and. Make it look easy every time i see one lifted by cranes it still makes me nervous Rita is from a era that some of the nicest boats and yachts were built to me nothing says class with all that bright work and joinery not knowing the. Shape she was in before the restoration she. Looks pretty darn perfect in the footage we see as well as great motoring on her way

Great restoration she looks fantastic, her hull lines are much the same as my 1930s week/end cruiser Lazy Days that I owned for 15 years. A superb crafted restoration, those guys deserved the first trip aboard, I hope there were a few bottle of bubble to celebrate. I was very glad to see no slippage in the lifting strops as she was lifted into the water. As an ex-crane driver I would not have lifted her without, attaching anti slides ropes from each strop forward to the bow and another to the stern each side. The good thing going for the lift was the hull was dry. Seen too many boat drops on KZread not to use check ropes.

As an rigger in the field for 22 years and trainer for 16, tying those straps off forward and aft (hey I just spoke boat), to prevent slippage, would have made me a little more comfortable when she went up, that's for sure.

HI Everyone. Rob Gerigs The Boat Builder here. I was the man who did the restoration on this gorgeous boat. I was in the employ of Tom at the time and now I'm the owner of this shop and still doing incredible restorations. I had a lot of joy in crafting the insane amount of wood that went into her. Blood Sweat and Tears as they say. Tears of joy though. I was actually sad to see her leave, but she's back where she belongs, in the water. I have a ton of stories about the restoration if anyone's interested. We're thinking of doing a KZread series on the process from start to finish in retrospect. Everyone hears about her history but no one gets to see and hear about the physical task of rebuilding her board by board, rib by rib and frame by frame. Keep an eye out for my KZread channel to see us in action and some of the work we've done. We're in the process of adding a tremendous amount of boats I've built and restored, so it's constantly being worked on. KZread, Instagram/Facebook all under.... muskokaboatbuilder. Best wishes to everyone and stop in if your in my neck of the woods. Rob.

I used to be a Straddle Carrier operator for Marine Projects here in the U.K. That boat is properly balanced demonstrated by the top single point lift each side coming down to a beam then 2 strops going under the boat? What I would do is paint a little triangle each side of where the strops were? And the words Strop here or just strop. It will make it a lot easier for any other lifts and also ensure the rear strop does not touch the prop shaft. It was one of the options we had but not for balance but for strength in Fibre Glass boats

Great restoration of a 100 year old vessel. I can see why it's called a day cruiser, there is no protection for the captain. Also pretty narrow for a 50' boat but I guess that's how they built them back then. It seemed to handle very good for a 50' boat with only one prop.

good viewing for a good old salty like me as i liked classic boat all my life was on a classic boats as i really liked them as they are really good boats as these was very historic these wooden boats are the best of craftmanship as i see thiswas the case as all old salts willbe happy to own these boats like me as i liked the older boats as they are far more better then the newer boats of now as these was really easy to fix and restore in future as newer boat in future willbe needing all the electronic replaces and the engines was are more complex to rebuild and service too that's why i liked the older boat for this reason now as these was far better to own in future the reason for this was the nwer boats willbe harder torestore in future that's was my views on the boats of now

Neat video, nice boat, but there are hundreds of video's on youtube of boats being dropped, I can't believe it didn't occur to anyone to have everyone move a safe distance away in case a strap broke, or the crane tipped, a couple guys even walked under the trailer in the middle of the lift, that's crazy.

Usually with a move like this escort vehicles are required due to the length of the tow, height ( you have to maneuver around overhead wires, traffic signals) so all bets are off on rules of the road. The primary focus becomes getting there safely and quickly so normal traffic can resume.
