I love that the Bee Gees are getting such a positive reappraisal. They really got a raw deal in the 80s with the disco backlash, you have no idea how poisonous and cruel that was. Good music wins out in the end, thankfully.

Everyone seems to do the disco era of the Bee Gees but they are so much more than that. I grew up with this great group. Love their early music especially 60's-70's. Some of their early hits were "Spicks & Specks", "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "To Love Somebody", "Holiday", "Massachusetts", "World", "And The Sun Will Shine", "Really & Sincerely", "Words", "The Singer Sang His Song", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Lonely Days", "I Started A Joke", "Melody Fair", "First of May", "Give Your Best", "Lamplight" etc.

They have reacted to How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, although not before they reacted to the same song by Al Green... On a related note, they also did I Heard It On The Grape Vine by Creedance Clearwater Revival and still haven't reacted to what I consider to be the better version by Marvin Gaye. They seem to do the not so good versions first, Lol.

The "disco era" almost destroyed their career. Nobody would play them in the 80's, sick of their success (if you have great success somebody has to knock you off your pedestal) and tired of the squeaky falsetto. They should have won an Oscar for the SNF sound track however because it had such success. One thing the sound track did achieve was, after that, the Academy was forced to accept contemporary music as worthy of being recognized. That was the one award for which they were ripped off. As a teen in the 1960's their early music caught my attention and I've been a fan since 1967. Disco not so much.

You have to react to the Bee Gees earlier work that are just as good if not better than their later ones. And their catalogue is huge: I Got To Get A Message To You, Massachusetts, Words, I Started A Joke, Don’t Forget To Remember, New York Mining Disaster, I Can’t See Nobody, First Of May, Melody Fair, Every Christian Hearted Man Will Show You. And there is more. Much more which I can’t recall off the top of my head. And all these hits were from the years 1967 to ‘70.

I would add stuff from the early 70s especially from Main Course (my fave Bee Gees album).... songs like Come On Over, Wind of Change, Baby As You Turn Away, as well as the hits from this one. Post Spirits Having Flown I would recommend You Win Again, One, and This Is Where I Came In, which is one of the last Bee Gees songs with the three brothers. An amazing band, that is so underrated.

It's so good to see a young couple discovering what we (oldsters) have known for decades. The Bee Gees were among the best groups of the 50s, 60s and 70s. There were so many major singers and groups whose songs have withstood the test of time. BTW, ever notice how many "oldies" get used in commercials and movies? Wonder why???

I doubt you'll even see this but, here goes -- Early Bee Gees had a much different sound, for the most part, than their Disco and post-Disco music. I'd like to recommend "Bury Me Down by the River" from the "Cucumber Castle" album. It's not like anything you've heard so far. The entire album is amazing. Their '60s stuff is my favorite, beautiful lyrics and very soulful...

I probably got that title wrong but you know what I am talking about. I have soo much Bee Gees on vynle. Tripping musically today and busting out my Bee Gees collection on the vynle and enjoying pure music including the skips and pops.

In October 1963 my mum took me to see The Bee Gees at the Glen Innes Town Hall in New South Wales, Australia . They were with Col Joye and The Joyboys, Judy Stone and Dandy Scott. They had just released their second single which Barry wrote named 'Take Hold Of A Star'. Their harmony even back then was stunning to say the least. They were 16 and the twins 12 I think. Great show. and I saw them again in 1964 and at Surf City in Sydney in 1965.

Your genuine reactions are what keeps these great groups alive. The Brother Gibb (all four of them) experienced so many ups and downs ... and real-life tragedies in their lives. Now Barry is the only one of the brothers still with us, but we can still experience their music and simple messages of love and dancing for as long as we all have ears to hear with and eyes to see. So glad I found your channel. You both really brighten my day.

I was just starting to listen to popular music in the late 1970s when disco was king. I asked my parents for a Bee Gees album for my birthday (or Christmas, I don't remember). They got me one of their earlier albums, before they started singing disco. You should listen to some of their earlier stuff; it's got a bit of a folk feel to it, with those same high voices. The album I got was a best of compilation: "Best of Bee Gees", released 1969, with the following songs: Side one No. Title Length 1. "Holiday" (Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb) 2:53 2. "I've Gotta Get a Message to You" 2:59 3. "I Can't See Nobody" (Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb) 3:45 4. "Words" 3:13 5. "I Started a Joke" 3:07 6. "Spicks and Specks" (Barry Gibb) 2:52 Side two No. Title Length 1. "First of May" 2:48 2. "World" 3:13 3. "Massachusetts" 2:23 4. "To Love Somebody" (Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb) 3:00 5. "Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You" 3:38 6. "New York Mining Disaster 1941" (Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb) 2:09
