This was killer live. RIP John Lord. Thanks.
Ian Paice on drums, Roger Glover on bass. Mk2 lineup was perfect.
Wow! A filmed version that shows why Made In Japan is the greatest live album ever made!!! Having been pulverized by them the year after this (the Burn/Mark III lineup), this song was absolutely stupifying. And yes, live no song was ever the same.
On Keyboards, the late great Jon Lord.. there are a few bands that feature keys, but few to touch Jon...& the enigma Ritchie Blackmore on guitar.. Purple loved to improvise live & i can guarantee every live performance of this you can find will be different .. what a band!.. another Purple suggestion? try "Lazy" ... studio, excellent... live, more of the same

When I seen this live the light show on the drum solos was mind blowing indoors. Seen 2 shows, 1 in 1 out in 2018. Had to see a 2nd show cause i couldnt make up my mind what i saw. Think they blew Priest off the stage 1st time. 2nd was equally killer shows indoors.
The song is not about drugs.when this song was written it was the beginning of the space-age.. and at the same time there used to be a cartoon drawing of a guy with a big foot called keep on Truckin and they combined that with the space theme.. also deep purple was not a drug band they were a drinking band.. none of the members of this lineup did any kind of drugs.. and you mentioned you liked the range of the singer you did listen to child in time live he had great in that one..

⬆️ FACTS!! ⬆️
The name Space Truckin’ comes from two things that were trending at the time: in 1972 the Apollo missions were still sending people to the Moon, and everybody felt they were on the “Space Age”; and there was a cartoon at the time that said “keep on truckin’” and was very popular

Oh nice! Thanks for the info.
Any questions of Deep purple you can ask me. Followed this band many years
According to the members of the band they were definitely drinkers but not into drugs. Space truckin was a reflection was a reflection of newly manned space travel at the time. Also the taken from an advertising logo of the time period "Keep on truckin"
You should listen to the studio version of Space Truckin' too, It's great.
Most 70s rock bands did solos live. Mainly guitar solos but keyboard and drum solos were common too. Keyboards seemed to go out of fashion with rock bands after the 70s. Floyd, Zeppelin, Yes, ELP and, of course, Deep Purple all had great keyboard players and regularly featured keyboard solos. It was virtually mandatory to have at least one extended drum solo and several short ones, in every rock concert.
Hear that freight train rolling, Ian Paice
In the 70s there were several groups with keyboard virtuosos, to name a few of the best known, Yes (Rick Wakean), Emmerson Lake & Palmer (Keith Emerson), Pink Floyd (Richard Wright), Genesis (Tony Banks).
Deep Purple`s original line up could blow Led Zeppelin off the stage! as with 3 other bands!

I wouldn't go that far
A huge part of what made Purple great was the dueling solos between two virtuosos in Jon Lord on the organ and Ritchie Blackmore on guitar
@JimJamFam

I agree! I enjoy seeing that.
Hahaha..."The main guitarist is pretty good"
BTW, far as I know and have read, Deep Purple Mark 2 (this line up) was not a drug using band. They were a drinking band...
1972, driving my ‘65 Plymouth Sport Fury. Windows down with the 8-track smokin’. Oh yeah.
black night live
The guitarist is the god Ritchie Blackmore.
I think that a chunk of the guitar solo has been edited out as that is not the usual transition between Lord and Blackmore on this track live
Ian Gillan was concidered the best vocalist around 1970’s watch Child in time live 1970 Pavarotti was a huge fan.Ritchie Blackmore is the guitarist, John Lord on keys, Ian Paice drummer and Roger glover bass all brilliant!
Ian Gillen is a great singer, for every band he fronts. He even did one album with Black Sabbath, Born Again, around 82 or so

@@JimJamFam yeah, I got to them live in Worcester Mass, Motley Crue was the opening band. Born Again was a different sound for them, darker and more doom, check out "Disturbing the Priest" from it.

@@JimJamFam Seriously, so much incest between DP, BS, and Rainbow... to name a few... musicians swapping in and out of each other's bands as soon as they would get irritated with each other... or Ritchie Blackmore. LOL

Oh, and fun fact: Ian Gillan was the first person to play Joseph in the Broadway musical _*Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat._ *Edit: oops! It should read _Jesus Christ, Superstar._

Ian Gillan sang the role of Jesus in the original Jesus Christ superstar recording. He never played any stage role.

not true, confusing it with JCS
Danced around with Borealice is a reference to groupie named Alice aka boring Alice. And no, this had nothing to do with drugs.
I suggest to react to Speed king NEC 2002 version...you would not be disappointed. There are so many wonderful songs both studio and live from DP that Is really an hard choice. Another thing are solo project and bands from the Purple family which are astonishing.
ritchie blackmore the best guitar player in the world

Nope. No drugs. Ian Gillan wrote most of the lyrics, especially during this era. And Ian was a very, very interesting guy. Still is! 🤘😁

@@JimJamFam - He was the original 'Jesus Christ Superstar' from the musical of the same name. Andrew Lloyd Webber wanted him to take the role, in the West End but Gillan preferred to stay with rock music. He's one of the leading candidates for GOAT, when it comes to rock vocalists. His style was hugely influential and basically became the blueprint for heavy metal vocals. At his peak he was in a league of his own. Especially re' power, range and control.

Emerson Lake and Palmer for similar greatness on keyboards, but only Purple had all these components, virtuosity live, which is why Zeppelin, as great as they were in the studio, could not match them live.
