I always wondered why Grand Wizard Theodore never trademarked the scratch. This is the hip-hop business. 90% business, 10% hip hop.

I feel you that he deserves WAY more: money, respect, props-wise. But idk if he could trademark a scratch..that's almost like trademarking a musical instrument itself, like a guitar or a drum. Or maybe more like trademarking a specific note, like trademarking a C note.

Enjoyed this clip but please lets stop with the notion that Flash was beat juggling in his early years of hip hop.Flash was backspinning or looping. When u "beat juggle" a record it is incorporating the manipulation of snares, kicks and highhats of a song in a way that adds more funk to the record a.k.a live remixing.beat juggling didnt become a thing until years later.and much credit needs to be given to the person who made it a household name and changed the dj scene when he did it-DJ STEVE DEE

He was never really a technically gifted DJ. He just knew all the bronx gangs and got them to organize block parties. His record collection was very extensive that other DJs at the time could not compete with.

Music needs a revival. 50 years of hip hop is unnatural. Younger generations need their own music genre not the same genre that their grandparents listen to. When I was a teen listening to Glam rock my parents told me to get a haircut. Four years later they were asking why I was wearing safety pins.

You are totally clueless if you believe this to be the truth!!!! What we have going on today is RAP. RAP IS NOT HIP HOP. HIP HOP started as a means to organize and express creativity. Rapping was one of the expressions. However RAP has been hijacked by record label owners and media execs who don't care about the culture or the original roots of it. They have political ties along with stocks in private prisons which is why they push violence and degeneracy in the RAP music and artists that we see today as an agenda to negatively influence the youth.

@@jpswerve182 You're the one that's clueless and calm down already. "Hip hop or hip-hop, also known as rap and formerly known as disco rap, is a genre of popular music that was originated in the Bronx borough of New York City in the 1970s." So yes rap is hip hop and that's coming from Wikipedia and other sources not your guess. Rap hasn't been hijacked by anyone. And stop making excuses for people that make bad decisions. That's the real problem. Does rap negatively affect the youth probably but a lot of things do and it's not an excuse for behavior. Mostly it comes down to living in a safe place with two parents that care that's what generally makes things work it's not worrying about rap being taken over by people that don't even take it over. There are so many artists that have just made it on KZread for example that do rap it just further rebuts you.

@@turkwendell6904 I really don't need to exhaust myself by having a back and forth with someone of your mindset. Reading the first few lines of your reply I already knew you were quoting Wikipedia. You more than likely never went to college, as even your teachers will tell you never to quote from Wikipedia. These big institutions and media conglomerates understand the audience that gravitate towards public celebrity influence. Poverty, violence and lack of hope was always around, but certain figures in RAP have been pushed and have aided to accelerate the problem with their negative influence. The glorification and glamorisation of their individual success sends a message of "No consequences to your violent, degenerate behaviour.....just as long as you can entertain people." As i stated HIP HOP is the original culture, RAP is just something that people do. A lot of RAPPERS you see today do not come from HIP-HOP culture, neither do they ever embrace it, They just want to get paid and look the other way from leading kids astray. HIP HOP WAS NEVER ABOUT THAT!

@@jpswerve182 thank you I've been trying and trying to educate the mindless rap and gangster rap fools that hip hop isn't rap it a multi cultural movement made up of multi cultural races of which it would never have happened rap is a by product of hip hop rap and gangster rap is so negative for a start promoting violence drugs guns gangs pimps.... None of this is hip hop...the youth of today have grown up on gangster rap rubbish rot music.... I am hip hop from b-boy to graffiti to DJ and the music and it's all possible by multi cultural people not just one race no one can clame hip hop as it wouldn't exist without all races of people's input.... Rap and gangster rap I don't care who claims that mindless noncance as it's negativity isn't something to be proud of...... We can all say things happen in society due to lack of and what makes a family what creates a good morals but let say it rap and gangster rap promotes negativity and violence yes I like some rap music but the youth soak it up believe it's right and it molds them as with everything good and bad does and that the difference between hip hop and gangster rap good and bad again but hip hop isn't rap pirod there completely different sides of a coin a coin is made of the same material but has 2 completely different sides that hip hop and gangster rap ones good the others bad it's what u do with it that difinse you it's all down to education and what you do with it.. gangster rap is negative energy hip hop is positive energy.....
