Just lived this scene this week. Told her I loved her she said she didn’t anymore. It hurt but in a crazy way this scene makes it feel better

So many years later and this part still gets to me. It truly was a great show. Florence and the Machine's Shake it Out was a great pick for this scene.

This scene makes me cry every time. My heart breaks for Ted. And Jason’s (Marshall) acting is SO GOOD. Marshall is the best friend anybody could ask for. And it killed him to tell Robin that on Ted’s behalf. As for the song playing and Ted standing on the roof... wow. Perfect combination. HIMYM was always so perfect with the small details that are a huge part to the show.

Rest in power, Bob Saget. For my money, many of the best lines of the series were delivered through his narration.

That no, is the most painful no I ever experienced in my life!

yes i agree its like even though robin is moving out its like now things can start to get better for him.

The gradually rising shot of a broken Ted on the roof, the increasing tempo of the organ, Robin giving back her keys and hugging Ted behind the scene.... one of the most painfully wholesome scenes of HIMYM. The ending was crap, but for some scenes like this, I watch this show again and again. So many life changing moments!

The symbolism in this show is insane, huge props to the writers

The way Jason pursed his lips and tried to force a comforting smile at 1:38 …there’s more emotion in just his facial movement there than a lot of actors can muster in an entire series. He really made Marshall look like he was completely broken-hearted for his best friend in that moment. Absolutely fantastic acting

When people ask why I don't think the ending works, I show them this scene.

the point is that robin loves him but feels he is better off without her so she painfully says no, the ending is kinda bad because they didn't take much time to show us how these characters really felt. Honestly the deleted scene where ted and robin have lunch on some random restaurant while ted is married makes the ending better

But you can see that Robin does love Ted in her expressions. Also Marshall‘s „not yet“ proves that the ending works. Moreover there are so many hints throughout the whole series that Ted and Robin will end up together.

@@moonlightcaroline2423 but Ted clearly asked her, wether Robin would somewhen love Ted at any day in her life, and wanted to have that final and ultimate answer (it's right in the dialogue before this video). And Robins answer is "no". So if she said "no" in that second, it should also count in 20 years or so, as this was the final answer Ted wanted in this scene.

This scene along with this song makes it so strong that it just leaves you thinking how we have to move on, no matter how hard it is. That 'No' and then Ted's response which he was muttering earlier in a funny way just made this scene perfect. Ted's getting out alone with a the street full of women carrying yellow umbrella shows how brilliant and creative this show is....I love this show!

Well, yes. Because the ending was decided during season 2 or 3. It was always going to end with Robin.

After watching this series 3/4 times Everytime I run into this scene i just take one of the biggest advices this show can tell you: don't be afraid to fall in love, don't be afraid to admit it and if it doesn't work out that is just a bump on the road and at the end of the day that road will take to your rest of your life

bro when I tell that this is, like, the FIFTH song that I discovered randomly, absolutely loved it and became obssesed with only to find out later that it was already in the how i met your mother soundtrack. this show OWNS me at this point. years go by and I still discover new things to love about this story and production.

It breaks my heart this scene. Is not only how the acting is done by all three actors here, but also because I see myself in there.

Marshall the best friend ever. He just tells her straight you've gotten everything from him and he's still to crazy about you to let it go even when he's getting nothing in return, it's not fair. The later seasons really made Robin a villain completely selfish and unforgivable and she never really got a scene were one of the group pulled her up about being so selfish.

I feel like standing on the roof of Ted's apartment sometimes because. Back in may of this year my fiancée broke up with me. After we had been together for over 12 and a half years. I am never gonna give up on her because I love her still so much.

And this proves you can't listen past words. Look at robin right before she says no, looks like she wanted to say yes. She just can't because she won't be able to give ted his dream of having a family. Kevin couldn't give away his dream but just because ted could doesn't mean she would let him do so. This series is a drama in comedy disguise. Two people who loved each other but couldn't be together because of their differences and add infertility on top of that and consciously decide they have to go different ways. People don't understand the series as much as they like to claim.

And seeing ted moving out from her is great, clinging to the idea of robin was destroying him, he says it himself in the episode "sunrise", he gives a definition of love and at the begining of the episode older ted admits that he was mistaken, with robin he had to destroy himself, with Tracy (even though he probably was disposed to) he didn't had to.

@@tomasrodriguez827 I'm not arguing the fact that they weren't meant to be together, in the end both had their own universal karma, the things that they were supposed to learn. Ted had to let go and find tracy, and robin, well, she had to choose barney to learn that chemistry and logic isn't everything, she had to go through divorce and end up alone to finally understand that living a life trying to prove yourself to be worthy of your father's aproval is something that simply leads to emptyness. Life is more than success and money.
