    These ads aren't all hilarious, the only two funny ones was the bugger ad and the cow one, but they were absolutely hilarious, the last one was not even remotely funny. The last ad being the most recent shows how boring and bland the Hilux ads and our society is now.

This is about the only decent commercials we ever get to see. Here in the U.S., it's all about selling "medicine" and electric this and electric that, and whatever the latest fad is this month, and other unwanted and un-needed crap. They seem to think nothing of pushing their pills, but we can't advertise beer, tobacco, or having anything politically incorrect according to the snowflakes.

    Not to bag on Toyotas, but I had a '63 Falcon Ranchero with a 170ci straight 6 and 3-speed manual (27mpg) that I finally sold at 282,000 miles, having done only oil changes/tune-ups during that period. I did do a 45 minute head gasket R&R when my little brother overheated it towing my mom's 1960 Chrysler New Yorker Station Wagon 22 miles home on the freeway. It did need a clutch plate or two now that I think about it, but those were easy, too. I miss that "truck" more than my ex.

    More than a few old Hiluxs gone around the clock on original engines and drivelines here down under. Then there's Landcruiser's, by 282k Miles they'd just be run in mate!

  • @budlewis721

    @budlewis721

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@dunxy That's been made abundantly and redundantly clear, here and elsewhere. But the Hilux wasn't really ubiquitous here; by the time "compact" trucks caught hold in the USA, that model had been replaced. Here, the early '60s saw a rising trend in planned obsolescence among American car companies, with a few makes/models escaping that fate, whether by design or chance I couldn't say. The Falcon was one of those. Many Americans don't consider that the reason the US car industry was doing so well in the '50s and '60s wasn't because of superior quality. It was because every other industrialized nation on Earth had been bombed flat in WW-EYE EYE - except Australia/New Zealand, and they were never automobile powerhouses. I guess that's why they brag about Japanese cars. Anyway, America never had to try too hard to compete until Japan, Germany, etc. finally recovered a decade or so later. Then some Yankee ass was kicked, but most of us, myself included, were still scornful of foreign (read "Japanese") cars. Ironically, I still wasn't convinced (call me stubborn) when I saw back then a Chevy Vega, a car with an aluminium block that _lacked steel sleeves in the cylinders,_ (you heard me), with "100,000 miles" proudly spray painted the length of the car. It was laying down a smokescreen that would make a destroyer escort proud, maybe in the belief it would conceal them from the cops. I only hope they were being sarcastic. Back on the subject, I'm not sure you're making a valid comparison to the Falcon; the Hilux was made and marketed as a truck, albeit a small one. It had a truck drivetrain and suspension. The Ford Falcon line was predominantly a family car - for small families, apparently. The Ranchero was a station wagon with ⅔ of the roof cut off and compact car suspension. I ignored its ostensible frailties and thrashed it like a red-headed mule's rented stepchild. I once hauled some topsoil 15 miles home with the differential gouging a groove in the asphalt to varying depths and the front tires occasionally touching the road. I was surprised the rear shocks didn't punch through the bed. Because of the obvious difference in intended uses, I believe a "miles driven" comparison handicap of... say... 3:1 is in order. I'm glad you agree. Ranchero wins.

    I thought some of the red Hiluxs in the first ad (50 years of Hilux) were taken from Top Gear adventure going to the north pole and that icelandic volcano, well it's quite close, they're Hilux modified by Arctic Trucks, the firm who prepared the car for the TG team.

    I have seen about half of those adds here in Oz. The 'bugger' ones were from Kiwiland and clearly a South African ones as well. But hey they are disposable 4wds when you drive a Landcruiser.

    Why do people insist on bigging-up their videos be falsely claiming that ads are banned? Toyota doesn't piss away millions on ads they can't show, all of these appeared on television - if it wasn't in your country, that doesn't mean they were banned. It just means they were not meant for your country.

    Dankie/ Merci Hilux Tim 4 this video. That last ad. What do your Dad do? It takes me back to many years. (My Dad drover a Datsun 680 Diesel, 1979, on the farm, in the town, to Cape Town, to school, to Church and every were, but not on holidays away. Then he drove the Oldsmobile, Jetstar, V8, 1966) The one ad, not here, was about a Hilux bakkie and how a wo-man belitle her husband. We talk a long time about this ad..... And how the ad-adjency actually did a good job.
