Hike to Lake Oberon, Western Arthurs Tasmania

Bushwalkers describe Tasmania's Western Arthur Range as "arguably the wildest and most spectacular part of the south-west.''
Having never visited the range myself I head out on an overnight hike to visit Lake Oberon 'The Gem of the South West' which is roughly located halfway along the range.

Hi i live in Hobart 57 yrs young. travel all over this Island :-) 4x4 and motorcycling , camping , prospecting. Your Vids rule the WWW . Great Respect and Huge thanks u do Tassie Justice SIR :-)
Thank you Rob. As older Tasmanians my wife and I are no longer able undertake adventures such as this and because of physical considerations our most adventuresome sojourn was an overnight visit to lake Nameless. Thank you so very much for sharing your research and videos on KZread. There is so much of our state to see when you leave the car behind.
You keep on producing the most beautiful content. Please don't risk yourself when you're feeling ill.
Great video and scenery Rob. Glad you shook off your virus to get through it.
Looking forward to the scenery!👧♥️
Hey Rob I ventured out this way in 2020 before lockdown. It was shitty weather but we managed to do the full traverse. I'm painting Lake Oberon at the moment and my photos were very average and few between due to the weather, so your video has been a great help. thanks again.
Just recommended a family member watch this one and was compelled to enjoy it immensely again. Well done Rob, thank you. p.s. I have an urge to send you some fine Merino woollies.
WOW, what a video!! Definitely my favourite so far which is really saying something as I love them all. The scientific lead in was terrific and the way you captured that timeless landscape has made me want to pull out my hiking boots and do this walk too. Great work soldiering on when you obviously felt like crap. The eagle in the beginning was a real treat 👍🏽🥰

@@Rob.Parsons Well done Rob I'd have to say that seeing the wedge tailed eagle take flight from a tree was a real treat. I have not seen one of those in Tasmania, for years now. They'd have to be one of the most beautiful birds in the wilderness that I can think of.....Pete from Devonport
Another magnificent video Rob. Thanks for making such an effort. The high production values do the scenery justice. Well done.
Great footage - loved the time lapse with the clouds rolling in.

Great video Robzombie.😂 I would like to see you make a video of catching some footage of the giant freshwater crayfish in Tassie I know your not allowed to trap them but you could take your diving equipment with you and catch some footage on your underwater go pro, that would be wicked. You also could do some prospecting while you were there and you should leave your trail cams on for a few days while you camp and try for some footage of the illusive Tassie 🐅. Just an idea but I haven't seen the giant crayfish yet, I think that they live in the creeks of the far northwest but cause your a local you would probably know exactly where they are. Best of luck friend.🐅🤗
Okay I’m definitely adding this hike to my list
Hope you’re feeling better now mate. Love all the videos you make. Cheers for making them, I’m sure a fair bit of effort goes into each one. Really appreciate it

Rob, once again you have excelled. Western Arthurs is truly a magnificent place with so much to see, you only scratched the surface. You released this video while I was on the Eliza Plateau. Another amazing walk worth doing, but of vertical and less horizontal. Very impressed with the push to the Lake in the time you made it in. Well done again.

You've done well Rob to get to Oberon in a day, especially feeling rotten. I still remember my skinny dip in the freezing but welcome water at Oberon . No flash tracks in my day 40 years ago. That eagle you seen was a younger wedge tail (highly unseen or photographed ) actually was thought they had been no more living or very few ) but IV seen one up northern Tas that had 1.5m wing span and stood half the height of a paddock fence.
How you're all good now? Glad you went that route as I'll never get there so a spectacular hike & the geology is epic, I do love that quartzite! - & I guess those were amazing orchids? I like the history too, & you taking us off the beaten path in search of bringing the Past back to life & discovering Tassie 'secrets'...- take care & keep well, look forward to the next Adventure!

I'm feeling a lot better now, that cough took it out of me for a few days. I thought they were orchids too but upon checking they are Tasmanian Purple Stars, or Isophysis and it is a monotypic genus, meaning there is only one species of this very distinctive herbaceous perennial and it is endemic to Tasmania. Crazy hey
@SmallWonda
2 жыл бұрын
@@Rob.Parsons Glad to hear that - hope it's gone never to return! The Purple Stars were quite stunning - isn't Tassie grand? Thanks for sharing that, I don't s'pose they are a common thing? - sometimes it's worth stopping & really looking over a patch of ground just to see what might be lurking beyond the big picture - like with finding gold in a hidden crevice. Happy hikes - see you on the next one!
