I moved to Jax in 74, left in 86. Some of my fondest memories are of things like catching Mudcrutch (early tom petty) in a little off campus dive bar in Gainsville. As well as the pride that we took in our local bands hitting it big.

These guys are from Jacksonville, Fl. They were popular in the early 80's during the height of Southern Rock. Everyone here in NE Florida knew them. They were my very first concert I ever went to when I was a teenager. The singer, Rickey Medlocke grew up with his grandfather next door to my Uncle Leo. This song played in just about every car in my school parking lot. It was all about being out touring on the road and being lonely and missing home and family. This song is incredibly nostalgic.

First heard it in 1982 when Blackfoot toured Switzerland. Have been a fan ever since and can't get enough of Rick Medlocke's voice. What a band. My absolute favorite Southern Rock band ever. And not only that, one of my favorite bands ever regardless of genre. "Highway Song" is a killer tune, but Blackfoot never wrote a bad song ever.

Here's a fun story: The bassist for Blackfoot was Lennie Stadler, who I knew as *Dr.* Lennie Stadler. He wound up going to Duke Divinity School at Duke University for his Masters of Divinity and then on to Asbury Seminary for his doctorate. *Easily* one of the most gifted preachers I ever heard. He had a rough go of things in 2006-2007, fell back into alcoholism after being sober for about thirty years and then got clean again. Sadly, he was diagnosed with cancer and he passed away in 2012, but he and I used to see each other at the Showmar's in Pineville, N.C., pray together and talk ministry-related topics. It meant a lot to me as a young preacher to have a guy that I could count on for good advice. Lennie was a good, good man, and the world is a poorer place without him in it.

Ricky Medlocke was the lead guitarist with Blackfoot. He played drums (1971-72) on the Lynryd Skynyrd's demo album that was released in 1998's *Skynyrd's First: The Complete Muscle Shoals Studio album* (previous was released in 1978 as *Skynyrd's First ... and Last* {shorter album since Skynyrd re-recorded some tracks for their debut album} after the plane crash that took the lives of 4 members of the band). Skynyrd shelved that album and recorded *Pronounced...* instead. Ricky Medlocke left before *Pronounced...* & rejoined Skynyrd in 1996 as a one of the 3 lead guitarist. The band also had Hughie Thomasson as a guitarist. He fronted the Southern rock band *The Outlaws.* They played some jamming road songs like: *Green Grass & High Tides" *There Goes Another Love Song* and my personal favourite: *Ghost Riders in the Sky.*

If you listen to the lyrics this is really a sad song. He's talking about being on continually touring and how much he misses his girl. And how she's feeling hurt by him always being gone all the time. Think about the bands in the 70's and how they would tour for 180-200 days out of the year just trying to make a living. Blackfoot is one of the best Southern Rock bands.

I have no idea when the last time was I heard this song, just as good now as it was way back then. Thank you, Ty, for doing this one. I remember driving to this song, & I DID get a ticket for it. I was flat out flying down the interstate. I remember the police officer walked up to my window, I turned the volume down a little, it was still going, and he just smiled at me. He said "I understand". & he did not give me a ticket for wreckless driving, which I deserved.

Hello, I'm Nobody, and I'm answering your question. lol. I was 22 years old, stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, with the 179th ASH, a Chinook unit, and I was first introduced to this group in the barracks. Disco was ruling the air waves (not my cup o' tea), and I remember one of the guys in the barracks playing this on his turntable. It's a good song, good band, great example of Southern Rock, and a great alternative to Disco. They had a very good three album stretch and "Strikes" was the first to really grab our attention. I put Blackfoot in the same category as Atlanta Rhythm Section, another Southern Rock group, that hit their stride around the same time. Both groups had outstanding guitar work, solid drummers, and big hits.

Forever Rock, from the poetry book “Agree to Disagree: My Thoughts, Opinions and Heart”. “I Sold My Soul for Rock and Roll” Was a phrase created, long ago. It seems that the phrase maybe gone. But Rock and Roll, still lives on. For me, Rock and Roll is in my soul, And I will never let it go. From the musicians of the past, to the musicians of today. It makes me feel good, when I hear them play. The electric guitar is what does it for me. The sound reaches into my soul and sets me free. When it is played, soft and slow. I feel it in my heart, deep below. It makes me forget whatever pain I might feel. The feeling of pain is no longer real. When it is played, hard and fast. The energy that I get can last and last. It gives me plenty of energy, to do what I want to do. When I hear it playing, I feel like there is nothing that I cannot do. As long as I hear the sound of Rock. I can definitely Rock around the clock. I will Rock twenty-four hours a day. I will play it loud; I don’t care what other people might say. If it’s too loud, then you’re too old. It’s not good for my hearing, so I have been told. If I lose my hearing, I won’t give a damn. I will feel the vibrations with my hands. I will keep on Rocking till the day I die. And I know that I will be Rocking as my soul floats into the sky. So, keep on Rocking long after I am gone. And Rock Will Forever, Live On and On. www.amazon.com/Agree-Disagree-Thoughts-Opinions-Heart/dp/B089CN7WBR/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=poetry+book+agree+to+disagree&qid=1594320289&sr=8-2

Seen Blackfoot in early 80’s. He did a tribute to Ronnie Van Zant when he sang this one. Ricky Medlocke played with LYNYRD SKYNYRD on and off. Mostly in the studio with the original Skynyrd. Liked Train Train better

Southern Rock always did well up here in Connecticut. Still does. Lots of bands used to play this one.

I was in the 6th grade when my brother (6 years older than me) brought this album home. He and his band practiced in our basement (we had cool parents), and practiced a few songs from this LP. HOWEVER, Skynyrd is what they practiced the most. There was a time that I actually grew tired of Free Bird. 😮 I love Free Bird again, though. Incidentally, Ricky Medlocke, lead singer and guitarist actually was an original member of Skynyrd before they were famous and rejoined the band in the 90s. He’s still with them, as they complete their LAST OF THE STREET SURVIVORS tour this year.

I first heard this song & album on 8-Track back when it was released in 1979 in a co-worker's car. I was instantly hooked because of the guitarwork, melody, vocals and every song from this release on 'Strikes' is amazing. Every time I hear anything from this brings me back to those days when I first heard it as a teenager and makes me smile. :-)

I'm 50 and the youngest of nine kids, so, of course, other than the top-40 that came out of the old AM radio in the kitchen back in the day, my first influences were the 8-tracks and 78 LP's that my older siblings played, and this was one. And Ty, to answer the rest of your question, so many of those old songs before all the "cookie-cutter" stuff made in every genre today had to be catchy on its OWN accord, and by the musical/vocal/entertainment abilities of the band themselves. This is one of those great mergers of all. Keep it up!

Modern Renaissance Man , Nice take on the song. I live in the city but still go to the small rural town I grew up in to visit my Mom and Grandma. As soon as the city traffic clears so does my head. Music up, pedal down.
