We ended our three-game losing streak in fine style with a thrilling win at Stamford Bridge.
Twice we took the lead in the first half - through Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe - and twice we were pegged back. But two goals without reply after the break - another from former Chelsea academy striker Nketiah and Bukayo Saka from the penalty spot - were enough to give us a much-needed victory.
Chelsea had had the better of the opening ten minutes. After a flurry of corners Marcos Alonso had a shot deflected just wide. We got enough men back to just about snuff out the chance. Romelu Lukaku then shot wide after a loose pass by Emile Smith Rowe.
Mikel Arteta made three changes to the side that had lost at Southampton at the weekend, with Ben White shifting across to the right and Rob Holding coming in to the centre, and the defence took a while to settle.
But it was a poor pass from the hosts that gave us the chance to open the scoring.
There appeared to be no pressure on Andreas Christensen midway in his own half, but his backpass was woefully underhit, and Nketiah pounced. He took the ball on to the edge of the area, kept his cool and slotted past Edouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal.
It was the striker’s first Premier League goal of the season. But within four minutes it was Nketiah’s turn to give the ball away, and Chelsea levelled.
Timo Werner picked up possession outside the box and though his shot seemed to lack power, a deflection wrong footed Aaron Ramsdale the ball rolled in.
At the other end Nketiah bobbled a shot just wide after wonderful work from Saka just inside the area. The striker’s shot bounced off his other foot and loop the wrong side of the upright.
It was an open game, with plenty of stray passes, and we retook the lead after living dangerously inside our own box. But Granit Xhaka did brilliantly to bring the ball away from danger and launch a counter-attack.
Martin Odegaard took the ball on and rolled it square to Smith Rowe to stroke into the corner precisely from the edge of the box.
Once again though, the lead didn’t last. Cesar Azpilicueta stole in front of Nuno Tavares to turn home a cross in front of goal. It was 2-2 inside half an hour.
Nketiah and Tavares both sent shots wide in immediate response. As the half drew to a close Smith Rowe shot just wide after dancing past three defenders. The keeper was rooted to the spot as the ball flew just the wrong side of the woodwork.
The intensity remained high at the start of the second half, and we took the lead for the third time on the hour mark. Tavares’s cross fell to Nketiah, he looked to have been dispossessed but he showed his striker’s instincts to stab home.
The challenge was to hold the lead this time. Chelsea came back and Alonso had a shot blocked by Gabriel with Ramsdale beaten.
We were getting deeper and deeper as Arteta brought on Cedric as an extra defender. The full back broke free on the right but his pulled back cross was behind Saka. Tavares smashed his chance wide.
We continued to soak up the pressure before sealing the points late on. Saka was hauled down in the box by Azpilicueta, and stepped up himself to thump in goal number four.
Four goals, three points, and the race for the top four is very much alive again.

When we lose 3 games in the row actually we are not under pressure anymore and play to our best possible football way cause we have accepted reality. Sometimes under pressure is the one that may take away our confidence and be the hindrance to our way.

Saka after the Euros has gone and produced his best season in an Arsenal shirt, Rashford is having his worst in a United shirt. Bukayo Saka has the right people around him❤
I'm was surprised that Eddie Nketiah scoring a brace against Chelsea and he didn't disappoint me at all. Congratulations to the young man!

Probably our midfield is fixed till the end of the season. Elbeny had to play on previous games also, he has big experience and always plays on good level. Lokonga needs to gain the meet

What amazes me is Martin Odegard's unsung contribution. His positioning to receive the Xhaka pass then moving near the Chelsea box to receive Saka's pass before assisting Smith Rowe was class.

Martin Odegard reminds me of Gilberto Silva - unsung Invincible of 2003/4 team. Nobody saw him when he played but he was the one who you missed the most when he didn't. Bergkamp too was a master in midfield.

Brilliant ! I hope Arteta continues to start Eddie Nketiah. Elneny, Xhaka and Odegaarde were fantastic in midfield and I was so pleased to see Saka score that penalty ! I think Arteta got the team selection and tactics perfect. Let's hope they play like this against M.U on Saturday !

Finally starts for ESR and Nketiah. Both showed what we've been missing, the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. Shoutouts too for Zhaka and Elneny. Tho' the defence was downright flaky.

I loved Elneny's composure. He doesnt do anything fancy and keeps his passes simple. Partey tends to play risky passes and loses the ball many times. I just hope things work nicely for Arsenal going forward

Arsenal's pressing quality made it difficult for the opponents. Midfield compactness was also excellent. Eddie's workrate allowed Arsenal to get forward.

For me the best thing we learned from this game is that Elneny has to start till the end of the season. Sick performance. Also Lokonga isn't ready yet for Arsenal.
Gabriel's effort at the back is not spoken about enough tbh.
Nketiah is a rare breed today, a true predator who acts on instinct for his position and actions. I wonder if he can keep this quality as he develops, with the modern game being so controlled and unspontaneous.

Xhakas defensive positioning and awareness on our second goal counter was insanely good , then to slip it past the first man and casually nutmeg the 2nd man and play out a calm ball to the correct man was actually class , fair play , not his biggest fan either

Wow wow wow!!! What a performance by Arsenal. A thumping Derby victory at Stamford Bridge. Congratulations for all the players behind the scenes. You may not have scored the goals but each pass you made, each block you made, every interception contributed to the victory. Kudos
Finally, Highlights we actually want to watch! Brilliant job by the lads, Nketiah showing Chelsea what they missed out on, Saka with an ice cold pen and Esr finishing another goal that shows just how great this young team can be. We can’t keep this as our trophy for this season, On we go back to the Emirates to give us another edge in the top four race gainst United.

There’s no arsenal without xhaka ....man always gives his all ❤, even though we won arteta playing sambi over elneny in the last three matches is just silly....I understand he hates Pepe but that’s his business,for me pepe will always be in my heart cos he is special

He doesn't hate Pepe. He is frustrated with him many times. As are most of us He came on and gave away a stupid freekick in almost the last second against Villa, which they nearly scored from. That's frustrating

He doesn't hate Pepe. Pepe has been given chance after chance after chance, yet he failed to prove himself. Sometimes, he appears nervy. Or maybe, it's the critics. Maybe that price tag was too heavy on his shoulders. I don't want us to sell him coz I see a lot of potentials in him. He has two years left on his contract. Arsenal's only fear is him going a a free.

@@rayanderson1941 Mehn he hates Pepe it’s so clear and the reason it’s because he didn’t buy him....trust me if arteta had bought him he would play him regardless...playing lokonga in our three previous loss matches proved that....like I would have preferred Ben white as cdm and holding at the back in that last three matches even if he didn’t want to play elneny there still other options....I just hope he ego won’t bring him down bcos I believe arteta as a coach understand the game and isn’t afraid to make changes in formations unlike ole Gunnar...the only time we are going to see the best arteta as a coach is if arsenal makes top 4 and he offloads the players he doesn’t like including Pepe which would hurt me personally because Pepe has potential he just needs a coach that believes in him and guide him but sometimes in life you just have to move on... so let’s see what the future holds though
