"There can be only one!" Fun Fact: Clancy Brown originally wanted the Kurgan to be dressed in a suit and bowler hat. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Connor (Christopher Lambert) drives a Porsche 356 A Speedster. The cars that the Kurgan (Clancy Brown) drive are a: 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, 1973 Plymouth Duster, and a 1975 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. Music Enthusiast Fact: Queen originally intended to record only one song for this movie, but after viewing footage from the movie, they were inspired to write more. The band members each had a favorite scene and composed songs specifically for them. Preeminence Privilege Fact: All of Sir Sean Connery's scenes had to be filmed in a week, due to Connery's schedule. He had a bet with director Russell Mulcahy that they would not finish in seven days, but Mulcahy won the bet. Connery earned $1 million for his week's work. Movie Magic Fact: The swords sparking while clashing was accomplished by attaching a wire to each sword that led down the arms of the actors to a car battery. One was connected to the positive terminal and the other to the negative terminal, so when the swords touched, there was an arc. Location Location Fact: The scene in the alley where the Kurgan (Clancy Brown) beheads Kastagir (Hugh Quarshie) and then stabs the vigilante (Christopher Malcolm), followed by the explosion, was filmed in an alley in England, even though it was set in New York City. Director Russell Mulcahy was reluctant to set off the explosion in the alley, because the windows were full of Victorian glass, but he was given permission to do so, because that particular site was going to be destroyed in a few months anyway.

Now Hollywood is super lazy. CGI has become a crutch. I miss the days when we used Science™ for special effects and real hand drawn animation, if you know what I mean. Speaking of animation, I suggested a few animated movies. Any time frame for when you might get to them? Go with God and Be Safe from Evil. 😎 👍

Another fun fact, is the Scots fighting at the start was actually real. They hired a bunch of Scots as extras and stuntmen... and as the filming days went on, they got more and more drunk... eventually the footage that was used in the movie was the best footage they had... because it was all the Scotsmen actually kicking the shizznit out of each other.

Great choice for a reaction! One of my favorite 80s flicks. Also glad you noticed Christopher Lambert's underrated performance as Connor MacLeod. You hit on it, MacLeod was a man who went through a LOT of physical and emotional pain over hundreds of years and it was all embodied in Lambert's eternally stoic facial expressions and calm, confident demeanor. He felt like someone who didn't quite belong in the 20th century and was more than just a mere mortal. Sean Connery's mentor role as Ramirez was a perfect fit that anchored the middle part of the film and Clancy Brown was a scene-stealer as the larger-than-life Kurgan. The Queen soundtrack is just icing on the cake.

It's also one of the best adaptions of the King Author legend. Also, watching this movie will explain a major point in the movie 'Ready Player One'. 2:12 there’s a lot of immortals but only a couple Highlanders which is someone from the highlands of Scotland. 6:25 at this point Connor wasn’t an immortal. He had the power in him but since he hadn’t died yet the power wasn’t activated in him. 13:41 this part I’ve always had a problem with. He should’ve drowned then came back to life when he was pulled out of the water. 23:43 the winner of the battle gets all the knowledge and power of their opponent. Which is why you don’t want a bad immortal to be the final one. Yes she cried out for daddy. A lot of older couples call each other mother or father or some versions of that. 25:39 he’s reminding Connor that they’re on holy ground and they can’t fight. 30:35 so this scene is supposed to show that Connor is the final one. I really like this movie. Actually all the highlander movies have great music. The second one not so good cause they tried to change how they came to be. The 3rd one (The Final Dimension) was a nice try to bring the movies back to the correct line. The tv series with Adrian Paul was really good. They had another tv series called “Highlander: The Raven” it was ok. The fourth movie they made called “Endgame” combines the Adrian Paul tv series with the movies. Then the 5th one called “The Source” was entertaining and a way to end the series.

Great reaction! I love Highlander! Highly recommend the tv series over the sequel movies if you want more of this universe. The reason Connor MacLeod has the stare is very simple. The actor, Christopher Lambert, is nearsighted. This is what happened because he couldn't wear his glasses and he was trying to focus on something far away. Yes, I'm sure some of it is just good acting too. But other nearsighted actors can give off a similar stare such as Sylvestor McCoy from Doctor Who.

The ending was kind of retconed when the series came to be. Obviously Connor did not win the prize. In the series The gathering is currently taking place but the final battle and had yet to happen. Taking place along side the events of the first film, with a different character, the weekly television show did what the first movie did, telling a story about the past that is relevant to the present, with a mild crime drama theme. Separate from the movies and eventually more popular then the movies at the time, the finale brought the two actors together in an epic showdown ⚔️

Great reaction you two to this sci-fi/fantasy 80s classic with a killer soundtrack....the only other Highlander related materials within the franchise that I would definitely recommend is Highlander: The TV Series (which ran for 6 seasons and had one short lived spin-off series that lasted only 1 season, Highlander: The Raven). The TV series does add much to the lore of the Immortals and Connor McLeod (Christopher Lambert) does make a 'passing of the torch' cameo appearance within the series. 🗡️ Although they did make several Highlander movie sequels (the 2nd one, Highlander 2: The Quickening, being not only one of the worst sequels ever made but does rank as one of the worst films of the entire decade of 1990s - due to heavy studio interference and awful editing by the studio.... however it too has its own cult following & dedicated fans) Recently, Highlander 2 underwent a drastic remaster by the original cinematographer & complete re-edit by the original director and original film's producers with added scenes (that were originally removed by the studio), re-scoring by the original composer and upgrades in visual special effects by the original VFX artists (all of which is a vast improvement over the original awful US theatrical version - which is rare to find these days). It still isn't a great movie BUT it is way better than the original released film & might be good for a watch just to see it for yourselves. (Highlander 2 is one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies - as a stand alone separate film, it is ok now but as a sequel, yeah everyone dropped the ball there). 🫤 The 3rd film, Highlander: The Final Dimension (also sometimes called Highlander 3: The Sorcerer in some markets), largely ignores the events of 2 (but is more or less a rehash of the 1st film, in my opinion) it is ok but it has a feeling of 'already seen it before'. 🤦 The 4th film Highlander: Endgame (also ignores 2) is a continuation of the TV series and largely serves as a finale wrapping up all storylines and characters (there is also an alternate producers cut of that film as well because the Dimension Films company did edit the film prior to release, without the original producers consent or knowledge at the time of release. However Dimension Films did allow the producers to re-cut the film as originally intended for DVD & Blu-Ray releases afterwards). For a finale to the TV series, it's pretty good & (the producers cut version) is a worthy sequel in my own opinion. 😁 And lastly there was a made-for-cable film (produced by the Sci-fi/SYFY Channel) called Highlander: The Source (it ignores 2 and is a sequel to the previous film, Highlander: Endgame). That too also has a reputation for being awful and a cash-grab (honestly I wouldn't know because I never actually saw it myself...to be honest & in my opinion, a 5th film/2nd sequel really wasn't necessary because I felt Highlander: Endgame wrapped up everything nicely IMO). 😖 There was also a short-lived Saturday morning animated cartoon series called Highlander: The Animated Series and that too had its own spin-off animated movie called Highlander: The Search For Vengeance (I've never seen any of these so I cannot give my opinion of his good or bad that they are 🤷. That would be something you'd have to check out for yourself if you want). 😯 There have been several books/novels, comic books, a web flash series, several sword replicas from the various films & TV series, a collectable card game and even several video games for various computers and consoles within the Highlander franchise. It's up to you both if you want to do any deep dives into any of that (although I would be interested in knowing your thoughts about any of those materials if you both ever do because I never read, saw or played any of those)... 🧐

A very comprehensive run down. The animated series had nothing to do with the anime Search for Vengeance though. They are two separate things. The animated series fits in with the Highlander 2 movie continuity while Search for Vengeance tells the story of yet another Immortal MacLeod named Colin born in the Roman era.

Years later, Highlander remains in my top 10 of the year 1986 next to masterpieces like Platoon, Stand By Me, The Fly, Manhunter, The Hitcher and A Better Tomorrow. Sure, Christophe Lambert's accents sucks, hard, but he's so charismatic. Plus, being a Frenchman, I've watched the film dubbed in french a thousand times as a kid, which was the better verrsion as far as Christophe goes. The final quickening, with the evil spirits, remains one of the coolest things I've watched in a movie, ever. My only regret about that movie is that the character of Rachel, the old woman that Nash saved when she was a little girl, wasn't developed. I so wish I saw what their lives were like.

The flythrough of the arena near the beginning was done with the Skycam system. There are four cables attached to the camera and the camera moves by adjusting the lengths of the cables. If you've ever been to a football or soccer game that was televised then you've seen it in person. No one put a 35mm movie camera on a drone until 2018, for the Westworld TV series, and that was outdoors.

Christopher Lambert didn't speak a word of English when making this movie, and learned all his dialogue phonetically. And he absolutely has the most intense stare. Kurgan's IKEA sword would never work in real life. Especially because you have a joint right about at the center of percussion (the part of the blade you want to strike your opponent with). Sean Connery was such a great casting choice for Ramirez: A Scot playing an Egyptian who adopted a Spanish persona. Looks like you're watching the director's cut, which adds a number of scenes, such as Connor rescuing Rachel from the Nazis, and the Boston Commons duel. The brief snippet of New York New York in the film is the only part known to exist of Queen's cover of the song, because Freddie hated covering other people's work. It's been rumored that Brian May has a copy of the full song, but even if true it's unlikely to ever be released. Connor says at the end he can hear the thoughts of everyone the world over, and can use that to help the world come together and understand one another. Now, imagine what could have happened if a monster like Kurgan got the Prize. There are no Highlander sequels. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Now, the Highlander SERIES from the 90s with Adrian Paul is pretty cool if you look at it as its own continuity (but its movies are terrible, so best stop with the series finale).

What's funny is Queen was hired to write one song for Highlander and got so into it they came back with an entire album. When Queen writes an album for your movie, you use it. This one was always on TV when I was a kid and it's always a good time. As far as the movies go, there can be only one. The sequels are pretty bad. There was a series that has a fanbase. The first 3 seasons were good then it kind of spirals.

To answer some of you're questions at the end, There are 5 movies and 3 TV series that came out after this and only about 2 of them are actually worth watching. Let me explain, Highlander 2 came out in 1991 and is hilariously bad. The producers came out with multiple versions to try and fix it so if you watch any of the versions I would suggest the Special Edition Producers Version that came out in 2004. Highlander the series came out next and ran for 6 seasons and is a must watch. It's about another immortal named Duncan Macleod who was born about 100 years after Conner and is a distant relation to him. The two also know each other as Conner found and trained him much the same way Ramirez did for him. After that came Highlander The Animated Series and it's an interesting take on the mythos and is okay for what it is. Since it's a kids show they have a new way of transferring the power instead of by decapitation It's also about a different Macleod, this one named Quintin. Next came Highlander 3 which I found to be really boring as it's just a rehash of Highlander but with a different villain. Heck, they even redo the scene where the villain kidnaps a loved one of Conner's and scares them by driving recklessly through a crowded street. Also, the film is about 15% sex scenes too so yeah. Around this time there was a spin off of Highlander The Series called Highlander: The Raven which was about an on/off lover of Duncan's named Amanda. It only lasted 1 season and wasn't very good, so skip! Highlander 4, entitled Highlander Endgame came next and it's alright. It brings both Conner and Duncan together to fight a super powerful immortal. Highlander 5, entitled The Source was a made for TV movie that aired on the Sci-fi channel in 2005 and is so bad that it should not be seen by any body! After that came the anime film, Highlander: The Search for Vengeance. Again, it's about a different Macleod name Colin who is hunting down the immortal who killed his wife 2000 years before. This film is good and in my opinion, If you watch anything that came out after Highlander I would suggest this one. So if you decide to watch anything that came out after Highlander, my opinon on it is: Highlander 2: Hilariously bad and should only be watched if you enjoy bad movies. Highlander the series: A must watch. Highlander the animated series, okay for what it is and you can watch it if you want. Highlander 3: Rehash of Highlander and is about 15% sex scene, watch if you want. Highlander: The Raven is terrible and you shouldn't watch it. Highlander Endgame: brought together both Connor and Duncan for an alright movie but should be seen after the series. Highlander: The Source is an unholy sin against god and should not be seen! Highlander: The Search for Vengeance is a Must Watch. Sorry if I missed something and have fun!

Highlander was an awesome movie. It spawned the following....: Highlander 2: the Quickening. Micheal ironsides plays the big bad....Immortals are revealed to be aliens (or something) and now Ironsides comes to find McLeod, Sean Connery returns from the dead, Queen again is a major part of the soundtrack....I watched this movie many years ago, it was a bit confusing Highlander 3: THe Sorcerer (Or something like that). No Connerey, No Queen, Immortals in the past were sent into the "Future" (The present of the film) so McLeod has to face a new big bad....who has magic. Events of Highlander 2 are largely ignored (again I saw it long ago, so details are fuzzy), not a great film Highlander: The Series - Adrian Paul plays Duncan McLeod (Conner McLeod's "Kinsman"...basically x number of years (20 or 40 I think) after Conner died and rose up and was run out of his village, another McLeod had the same happen (Conner shows up in the pilot, and is established as having helped train Duncan,), and they spent 6 or 7 season deepening the lore of Immortals, (Rules, explanations, allies, factions and of course canon facts that they would tend to contradict later in the show) and having Duncan meet, flashback, and then fight "Villain of the week". It was the 90s, I was big into this show, and it lead to a spin off series (That only lasted one season, Highlander: the Raven), and at least 2 Movies that went to theatres. There was also a 90s animated series set in some sort of future world (like the 25th century or something), with Ramieriz (Connerey's character, obviously not his voice) training a young Quentin McLeod.
