Higher Consciousness

'Higher consciousness' sounds mystical and possibly irritating. It shouldn't. It just captures how we see things when we go beyond our own egos.

“The term ‘higher consciousness’ is often used by spiritually-minded people to describe important but hard-to-reach mental states. Hindu sages, Christian monks and Buddhist ascetics all speak of reaching moments of ‘higher consciousness’ - through meditation or chanting, fasting or pilgrimages...”

Sometimes higher consciousness can bring about great loneliness. This is because when you realize how superficial and temporary the petty pleasures most people adore and strive for. Stuff like status and validation as seen in the "social" media, short lived pleasures such as alcohol and pointless sex, creating a image of oneself only reflecting a flattering fraction of our predominantly strife lives and relishing in material goods all become pointless. Once you reach higher consciousness you start seeing the false self conceived perception of a flamboyant life every working man and woman strives for. They care for nothing else, believing they only can find happiness and peace in a fantasy. This renders them unable to see the truly rich and fulfilling simple life. No one wants a good friend anymore. No one wants to settle for simpler pleasures. No one wants to do any type of introspection or understand life. They just want to earn money by slaving themselves away at work, blow it on material goods, get drunk on Fridays and getting "likes" and "big friend lists" on social media.

I agree with you. Once you reach higher consciousness it's hard to relate to people. When I learned the origin of the word meme I became super aware of how they affected people's attention and can't enjoy them as entertainment. I find it difficult to watch movies/TV shows because of all the cliche lines, archetypes and hero's journey's bored me while non-fiction/philosophical content intrigues me. I notice people try to escape from reality and I strive to escape to reality. I'm aware that I can turn off this "higher consciousness" to fit in but I always choose not too by remembering " as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others."

The only downside of having reached a higher state of consciousness is accepting you can't accurately share the sensation of insight and get others you love to reach higher states of mind too. They have to want to do it on their own and it requires the right amount fortunate/unfortunate experiences.

When you reach the highest forms of consciousness. There is no room for ego. Which is what I’m seeing in a lot of these comments. Your ego is the cause of desire. You desire and therefore you suffer. Whether it be depression, anger, hatred. Drop the ego as much as you can. You won’t want things as much and thus fixing majority of the problems you face(in your mental/spiritual state). Live in the present moment. Be here now. Be content with who you are and what you have and be grateful. When doing so, you will live a happier and healthier life. (Edit: You haven’t raised your consciousness high enough if you’re depressed or feel any emotions that the ego would define as negative. Anger, hatred, depression, Loneliness etc etc... get rid of the idea that the idea of what you desire will make you happy. That is temporary happiness. Find happiness in the moment. Detach from desires and detach from all things. Attachment leads to suffering.)

Higher consciousness doesn’t bring loneliness, that’s an illusion (lower consciousness). Higher consciousness makes you aware of being one with everyone and everything no matter if those “other” people see it that way or not. It should be a picture of the solar plexus or heart rather than brain. Consciousness doesn’t come from the brain alone, the brain is only part of it, it’s much more involved in thought, and thought is the biggest distraction of consciousness.

I completely agree, ever since I was young I’ve always felt different because of the way I thought and how others didn’t understand me. I didn’t understand why until I was sixteen and I started to evaluate life on a greater scale and tried so without applying any norms I knew through society. Overtime, I began to suffer an existential crisis because of how fragile my mind was. When you access your neocortex and think more broadly it’s expected to be incomprehensible. That’s why most individuals cannot atone to a higher consciousness. However, despite suffering up until about a month ago I’ve learned to embrace rather then fear the bigger picture. By doing this I could use my heightened thought process to evaluate other things, in particular: systems of government, why humans do certain thing, true meaning of love, and such. Embrace it, do not fear.

additionally, I also want to say I believe I achieved this stage because of my parents early divorce and violence in the household ontop of being independent. I was always a thinker so when I was left alone I often thought about aspects of life on a greater scale. Difficult experiences can you help achieve a thought of higher consciousness but truthfully I believe independency, passion to learn what’s unknown, and the ability to think very often is what will allow you to achieve a higher consciousness.

The neocortex is active all the time. It's where mammals do all of their complex mental tasks and problem solving. We use it to read, type on a keyboard, and write sentences. It's not a special faculty of the brain that makes us empathetic or contemplative. Sure, when we imagine the world broadly like this, we do so with our neocortex, but this video makes it sound like we're literally accessing a different function of our brain, when it's really the same function applied differently.

It's a philosophical explanation of that "higher consciousness" the wise men praise using the available modern definitons, it's not a biology video. But yes, it's true that makes it seem that way. I guess using brain analogies was the most effective way they found to describe the mind.

diemcim Yeah, that "higher consciousness" stuff is just sophistry - metaphysical vagueness masquerading as "deeper truth." It's always been a bugbear of mine in my study of philosophy. And misrepresenting neuroscience in service of that pretentiousness is doubly annoying, since I aim to study neurophilosophy myself.

Brayan Arellano it’s the scary truth. I’ve dropped acid about 4 times In the past month and being around my parents and others now is so wierd because I know they’re just living life on autopilot, only concerns are to work to make money, go home, watch tv, go to bed, repeat the cycle. It’s such a bland way of living. I want more than that

It really is, but at the same time I cant really blame people for choosing the more easy ignorant path because not everyone is mentally strong enough to go through the process of killing their ego, understanding that there is no "next step" after we die, and to healthily cope with the ugly systematic society that we have in place. Im 19 and ive already had 2 good friends of mine commit suicide going through this change. Being a rose growing in a muddy swamp surrounded by thorns is tough. Also, im glad to hear hope, that you want something more. So make it instead of searching for it because you wont find it. Also, id recommend to chill with acid for a bit before you start seeing through people and becoming way too woke without being able to fake the funk for the people that you love. Maybe do DMT once as your last expirience with drugs for at least 3 months, try to flourish as a sober mind who is always in control.

When you reach this state you forget about your status, other peoples perspective of you, life benefits, what you have done and where you are going. I guess it puts you in a state where you can easily understand that you are not some complex protagonist in a story but simply a being in this reality and a tiny point in time created by the big bang.

This is especially awesome, because right now I am working a minimum wager almost full-time and it totally blows. In Australia minimum wage is $21 per hour in comparison to Ontario's $11.40. The value of the dollar is barely different, and you can avoid the increased cost of living if you do it hippy style. The whole drastic change has been kind of daunting, but it is pretty exciting that I am going on an adventure, and my path is now uncertain.

having a “higher consciousness” is not special and everyone has moments where they see the world for what it truly is and realize that the true pleasures in life are not in material/ physical things. The problem is that most people choose to push these ideas out of their heads and distract themselves from them because in order to be accepted in our society, one must strive to have these material items. I do believe that these realizations should not make one lonely because everyone has them and most choose not to speak abt it. have faith in ppl. We could make a change:)

Part of me regrets diving deep into this when I was 14. I’m 19 now, and every second of my life feels complicated. All whilst my friends, who are my age, are out partying, drinking, doing drugs, turning their passions into a career by selling themselves to the public and just enjoying themselves. It’s satisfying knowing that I won’t be enslaved by the pointless goals and dreams most people chase after, but it hurts knowing that I can’t enjoy life as I used to as a kid because I can’t think of life to be that simple anymore. It causes me to worry about my future. Maybe I should shut off a part of my mind and just live life like the others since that’s how we, apparently, get ahead in this world and just turn that area of grey matter on every now and then when I have a lot of free time? I don’t know. If anyone else is experiencing this, I’d really appreciate your thoughts.

After reading this comment I felt that I was able to see and feel mentally what it felt like when you isolating your mind into thinking you are the only one that thinks this way while everyone else is just being driven by the auto pilot of “lower consciousness” I For one always feel this way until I literally speak my mind and show others that I can completely understand whatever emotion or obstacles they or me are going though, it feels almost satisfying when I can connect with a person the way I do and it feels affirming that I have connected with others the way “I” or “they” needed to be.

That's a fair place to be when you've problems but my advice would be, don't seek all the answers at once. Doing so will only tax your system. Taking care of your worldy problems like having enough money o sustain yourself will give you a breather to seek more of the answers.

Always carry higher consciousness in things that you do in life in orded create space between the higher self and ego self so you're not overwhelmed by the experience of greed or whatever that your ego tries to lead you to. Always remember that you're here to experience life, our society has shaped us into materialsm way of living and money is the currency of life, unless you want to be a monk. Find a goal, a career that you love that could support you financially, work hard to jump out from the survival mode so you can start experiencing the higher self. (Referring to hierarchy of needs)

"Shouldn't aspire to make the higher states of consciousness permanent because they don't sit so well with the many important practical tasks that we need to attend to." I find that to be untrue. As a matter of fact, higher consciousness can really help with the practical tasks in a way that we no longer feel forced to do them because we don't have to suffer to do them, our resistance against them has dissolved. Higher consciousness is profound surrender.

Just putting ego aside being more empathetic can help you achieve great things, once you overcome that you will realise you are communicating efficiently, investing time to understand others will help understand yourself or maybe we can find answers for ourselves and be prepared for similar situation which could happen in future, we are social being and we will always be so, it doesn't matter how high your consciousness goes, we need to tell our self "I have yet to learn a lot" and the only way I can learn more is by communicating with People around the world. We live in a world where we are told what to do and what not to do since birth, it is important, with out that guidance maybe we won't survive. But, once we reach an age and we are experienced enough to change our self for the better, We should not resist, you will always feel things might not end up the way we want, you will never know unless you do it. All you need be is confident and have some faith in yourselve. ✌️

Well, that is just a metaphysical assumption, and as such it's important to point out that this is just the philosophy of materialism, which has other names and variants, such as naturalism, realism.

The thing is, we can only guess what "higher consciousness" is. Mainly because it cannot be measured. If there's an apple laying in front of you, you can prove it's there by walking up to it, seeing it, picking it up and feeling it, and smelling it. Higher consciousness cannot be measured and most likely never will be. It's just one of those things that we cannot explain. Maybe it's all an illusion, or maybe when we rise into higher consciousness, we begin to see things how they actually are.

It's kinda sad that so many people think they've reached higher consciousness and be depressed at the same time. If you've truly reached hire consciousness, you would be almost unconditionally happy. Your intelligence would lead you to pursue healthier life habits like eating right & working out. This is because higher intellects see the bigger picture. Even though you're going to die one day anyways, you can make the best out of your life by taking care of your self and enjoying the little pleasures in life. Seriously, your depression is a product of bad habits & not a product of "knowing a lot" For example: Buddhist monks are known for their higher state of consciousness but do you see them being depressed? No. They seek enlightening because they now it exists and they active it through good habits. This is because higher intellect individuals can see beyond their own selfish mortality & instead they see the bigger picture. Take good care of myself = stronger me = stronger children = stronger future for humanity as a whole rather than stronger me atm. Realize that you've been endowed with a massive responsibility. The weight of entire generation to come rests on how you live your life. You are responsible for an unimaginable amount of offsprings who will be just like you. Do you want them all to be depressed because everyone dies eventually, or do you want them to all seek higher intelligence and strengths, slowly creating the perfect breed of a human. Choose your habits (good/bad) wisely. You have entire generations to be responsible for.

Man, you guys are just blowing my mind tonight with this stuff! :) ... I had a peak-state experience like this (of my consciousness) back in 2012 that lasted several weeks - it was triggered by and experience I had out in nature when I encountered a hummingbird. :) ... It created such a radical shift in me I didn't quite know how to handle it and it eventually became overwhelming... But the more I come across great content like this, the more I know I can trust that what I experienced was REAL, valuable and indeed - sacred. Thank you sooo much! HUGE love! :)

Im not sure if my experience can be considered i was in "high consciousness" but well, sometimes, mostly in the night when im in my bed ready to sleep and start listening a beautiful piece of music a load of happiness and peace travels through my body, from the feet to my head and viceversa. I start to see beauty in everything, in the dark of my room, in the light coming from the window, in my parents and sister next door, then i go beyond, i have this sensation of indirect accomplishment where im glad the human race exists and the interaction between them is possible, the relationships that determine a society, be in the smallest term like a family to a bigger one like a city. And i feel like i have no body anymore, like the material is just a shade produce by the living, by the unknown but highly intelligent forces that created us in such a detailed way. This "state" is so beautiful because nothing can affect you in a bad way, you cant be sad or angry, is just you in contact with the beauty itself, with the flow. I have problems (college, girlfriend, family, etc) but in that single moment everything is gone and i just see happiness in all this that have been developing since the first men or since i was born, i see every person as a whole universe, which when you think about is amazing, imagine the rich amount of experiences that have been possible with the interaction other people. It feels never ending, ever lasting, like this wil always be there, the human conciousness.

uhh, no. That sounds like you were feeling very thankful and happy that everyone and everything exists. You must remove your focus from yourself and imagine yourself outside of your body as a spirit floating around, but still aware of how you feel and what you think. Then you would have to observe and take in as much information from the world around you as you can and then see the world in the most understanding way as possible. Observe and piece together the information you observe to understand what's going on and by doing this, you'll distract yourself from your own existence.. (I may not have explained that properly). What makes this easier is to become at piece with everything around you before you do anything.

This is by far the best video on youtube it always keeps me grounded and enables me to see other people's grievances as something they are combating from within. I do slip up from time to time and take certain throw away comments very deeply and make them personal especially if I've hit what I call "a wall" or a "lull" in that frame of mind I begin to blame others or I am defensive because I feel threatened for whatever reason. But, I know that it's short lived. And reminders like this video help me to see that there is more to the picture and that most of the time people aren't talking or thinking about me that much and that thing I may have spent all weekend beating myself up over was not met with as much pressure as I have a tendency to put on myself under. Much of these pressures come from ourselves which can have a domino effect down the line in our day to day run-in's with people so I'm trying to be that one domino that doesn't fall or falls but doesn't knock the next domino in line....does any of this makes sense? .....meh!

As it stands, when you type "philosophy" into KZread's search bar, the first result is this channel. Not a bad stand, but I think not enough people are interested in philosophy.

+peppermint23 As an engineer, or at least, someone with an engineering mindset, I access this part of my brain all the time also. Maybe not the first career you would think that requires access to this state of mind, but it's true - and you're right, it is the best.

I lost my brother my mom and my grandpa all during recovery from multiple major surgeries at a young ish age and I believe higher consciousness hit me hard while sitting alone in the hospital watching how young n old are treated and watching my family slowly leave this planet from sickness opened it to another state.I'm still learning and realized levels but I do believe I don't see the world the same anymore
