A few years we went camping at Williams Arizona, my daughter and I were walking along a “path” looking for interesting rocks she was ahead of me and I had just said we might find a arrow head not really expecting to ! I hardly got the words said and there in the trail like some one had just placed it there just for me ! I had never found an arrowhead before ! What a thrill ! Then I thought my daughter put it there so mom could “find” one ! But she said no she didn’t ,she has found arrow heads before ! This one was so perfectly made and looked like it was just made ! I think the Great Spirit put it there for me to find ,my daughter has a keen eye and she didn’t see it ! I love Rock Hounding ! I always have my pockets full of rocks when I get home ! Blessing to all of you and happy, happy days for ever and a day 💕👍🦋🌈👵🏻🐶😺🖖👽🛸

A quick pro tip: place those little pin flags in the ground next to each artifact and photograph them after you have covered an area. Then go back and get them. I see how disturbed that site is but you will still get an idea of total distribution and size of site etc. You see how sites are destroyed people? Scraped away and crushed. I'm giving Nate a title: Salvage Archaeologist! Thanks again for the video!! Keep doing what you do!

The bulldozed land happened to help stop the spread of fires. If it help save lives its important. Its frustrating for all of us to see things turned up... but then when folks like Nate explain why, it helps us to understand.

@@rebeccaofsunnybrookefarm8469 I am a professional Archaeologist and I must burst bubbles all the time by informing people that sites are "mitigated" to widen roads, build things, etc. Artifacts are unimportant. Once we gather sufficient data the bulldozers go crazy. We dig only to the point of redundancy and quit. Only very stratified sites of huge importance get attention. I know everyone thinks this stuff is sacred, but the reality is that it's all just cultural resources. In college I went from a collector that saw every flake as cool and neat, to a professional that sees nothing but old or new trash. Old or new graffiti. The Archaeological record is continuous and is still being created. Older is not better. In fact, one could argue that arrowheads are a form of pollution, flakes are just more pretty things that humans broke apart and threw away when they ceased to be useful. A clay pot is a Pepsi bottle, a midden of shell is a big old heap of garbage.

A good analog for silicates is sugar. Sugar can be cotton candy, taffy, hard tack, etc. it only depends on how it was treated in formation. Add a bit of color (mineral or food coloring) and appearance changes but it's still sugar. Another calm and soothing video, NATE!!

You are so lucky that you live in an area, where these beautiful stones are found. I could spend the day, searching for these beauties. Unfortunately, here in the Panhandle of Florida (Pensacola area), there is nothing like this. My daughters, granddaughters and I, love to look for unusual rocks, especially when we go on trips to the Blue Ridge area, or just walking along riverbanks. The grand-kids even love to go to those cheesy little attractions, where they get a bucket of sand, a shovel, and have to sift their sand in the flume, to find the gems. Rocks, gems and minerals are fun and magical to us. Love your video.

Agate Dad I went to Lake superior with my girlfriend at the time back in the year 2000. We looked at the beach for a couple of hours and didn’t find anything and then when I went back to her grandmothers house I found an agate in the landscape rock underneath her kitchen window. It had probably been there for 40 years and nobody had ever seen it.

yes I have always tried to get attention for findings and areas that seem important , sad part is , beside the obvious P.C. Reaction from the public, there is little focus or interest in true, preservation, of THAT past, there are token historical parks but they almost do the opposite of what you would want, by making it seem to the public like there were only a few scattered sites, when really this whole region was a thriving nation of pre existing roads routs ag land , ect,A Full Civilization, whose footprint extends under all current properties, so let it be said. but yes , I will document and try... at least you have all witnessed and can see how they were everywhere, that is why I show them, ..with only respect and out of fear of the past being forgotten . ; )

About 35 years ago, when my children were young, I took them and my niece out arrowhead hunting. My folks owned some land in upstate New York, near Germantown. It was a point of land between German Kill (creek) and a smaller creek. My folks told me there were a lot of arrowheads, and that tribes used to like to gather where 2 creeks joined each year for a big hunt. It had some special significance. Also, there had been any archeological dig there in the 1950's. My dad had gotten a copy of the report of the dig from the state. It was like an Easter egg hunt. Arrowheads all over the ground. My sisters were dismissive, saying all we had was a pile of rocks. One sister was dating an archeologist at the time, and offered to get the "rocks" checked out for us. ( I knew what we had because I had read the report and checked the pictures before we went out.) She was clearly surprised when she brought back our "rocks" and told us everything we had found was an artifact. Paleo-Indian, about 4000 years old. The thing is, you were looking between 2 creeks, Nate, might be an important place for tribes there too.

Very nice Annie! I'm in the Finger Lakes, and grew up at the North end of Cayuga lake where the Seneca river bounds the Northern edge of the Montezuma Nation Wildlife Refuge. In the Spring when the river was high, flooding the alluvial plane around it, the hills - glacial moraines and drumlins, were more of islands. When the waters receded, we would hike to the 'beaches' and scout for minerals, fossils, and archeological finds. We would sometimes find garnets, quartz, and wash from Ontario, Canada via glaciers . We would also find spear tips, arrow heads, and flint tools from as far back as the pre-Iroquois Woodlands people from slightly Southwest in the greater hills of the Allegheny mountains (= We found Iroquois burial mounds but left them undisturbed. This area was Summer and Fall hunting grounds for the Northern Woodlands people, and later the Senecas. The area was not settled year round due to the floods and thousands of acres of swamps. Though the minerals are not as varied and plentiful as other parts of North America, there was enough, plus food, to attract populations as soon as the glaciers, then super lake Iroquois subsided 7,000-5,000 years ago. You and I grew up in an awesome area, in a time when, as long as done with respect, one could find ancient history and geology without any worries or hassles.

Hi, I have a feeling where you are finding points, that is where an encampment or village was. Only a few were a skilled master knapper, surely all could make functional ones. Those are either scrap because of bubbles or imperfections etc, perhaps an apprentice would rough a bunch out so the master could finish, but I am Jealous. edward smith Dude Sasquatch it’s those mushrooms and trips out in the forest. There was some sort of predator in the woods. Bigfoot are actually everywhere. Whatever put those berries on the leaf at the 14 minute mark was likely a Sasquatch. Unless it was this gentleman.

I wonder, if the Sasquatch that are bringing the abyssinian in one area or maybe even trying to make arrows from watching humans hunt for so long? The sasquatch could be evolving by watching humans. There are alot of hunters who have killed deer and know for a fact they dropped it quickly and when they fallow their deers blood trail, to find out their deer vanished like a fart in the wind! I dont like hunting or killing wildlife so in my mind its cruel, and sad. I dont think certain people should be hunting, because of their lack of respect for wildlife. There are so many people who do cheat by baiting, poaching , killing from road sides, or just shooting them for the hell of it, that I believe if you have been caught doing anything like that they should take your hunting license. If the punishment is harsh then people would be less likely to to do anything that would be illegal or fined for thousands instead of a hundred or whatever your area laws are. It's so unfair to the deer, that people will do things to help their odds of shooting a deer are higher. I believe if you are stuck in the middle of nowhere and you need sustenance then hunting is justifiable, but if you live a couple of blocks from a grocery store or you just dont eat deer meat or you take any animals life just for sport or you want to mount their dead body parts on your wall, I feel that is so disrespectful to nature. Its barbaric and primal in my mind.
