First picking blue for optical reasons but then switch to red for the personality seems like the most logical way to me. Humans go for looks first but later on, personality is more attractive.

actually not, blue is a hotter color, scientifically speaking. Take a look into black body radiation, the hotter object is, more energy is radiated away and the peak of light wavelength is shorter, blue is shorter wavelength than red, therefore, blue is more hot
