Sheb Wooley was my friend until his death. I met him in Nashville, Tn because he was a close friend of my brother. He did a show where I lived and he called me to pick him up at the airport. We stopped at a Cracker Barrel Restaurant and people would recognize him and would interrupt his dinner requesting an autograph which he graciously gave. Allot of celebrities would have gotten annoyed but not Sheb he was not only a great actor but a great man. RIP Sheb, I was honored to be called your friend.........J D Owens

Your uncle also was a good friend of Henry Ford II. I had read that they were very close friends.

That's my old home town . My Mom said that she and grandma was in the Church crowd . My uncle said that he was used ( stand in ) in the arrival scene and that the camera man shot over his shoulder . Also that's the church that I used to go to . And you are also correct about the famous lumber Co . It's become a favorite with all scales of model railroaders including international railroaders . Good old Westside Lumber . Grandpa George was the Union reppresinative at one point . As with the church it was remodeled . When my Mom and me watched " High Noon " on TV she showed me were her and grandma set . So the thing is . The Church scene was filmed there in Tuolumne , also that church got those stain glass windows and remodeled with the money for filming there .

It’s my personal belief that the movie High Noon only compounds my belief that the ordinary citizen would rather live under an oppressive society than stand up for law & order. I know this movie created quite a stir back then but being honest, I too would have thrown down the badge in the dirt due to those citizens who hid and offered no help at all. They didn’t deserve a man with a character such as Kane. Thanks for showing us round.

Years ago I took Robert Wilke's niece to visit some of these places. We even ran into some of the oldtimers who remembered seeing the movie being filmed.

I was born and raised in Modesto and I would have to agree with Sarah's take on Modesto!

One of my all time favorite movies. I saw it in the summer of 1952 at the Sunset Drive-In Theater in Springfield, Missouri. I was six years old and it was the first movie I remember watching all the way through, without falling asleep.

Saw a movie with Lee Van Cleef, searched his movies on KZread, saw the opening of High Noon and noticed the landscape very familiar with oak trees, spiky rocks and familiar grassy land ....so I decided to search High Noon shooting locations and landed here....and yep I know the location and I pass by it when I go to Sonora as this video confirms, great video and I had to visit that depot location since I live in Waterford also had to watch High Noon to get the full experience, since locations are familiar....great information....this is what surfing is lol

Nelson's Candy Kitchen my favorite lol. I can't even tell you how much of their candy I've eaten as a kid lol. I also know every rock & tree of Columbia, Sonora etc because I climbed every one of them lol.

Great video. But tell Sarah to watch High Noon, I can´t imagine somebody who has not seen it and doesn’t care.It’s a masterpiece, my favourite movie of all time. Maybe next time she goes to that marvellous spots where the movie was shot she will enjoy better and she won't look so bored. I would give one arm to be in that places!

Cinematographer Floyd Crosby (father of Singer David) had a GREAT eye...he really made those locations work.

This is the coolest damn thing I've seen all week! High Noon is not only the best western film IMO...it is the best film ever IMO because it is an expose on the human animal and the root of our problems . Evil in our world is not made possible by the 5% that are evil...it is made possible by the 94% of our species that are cowards that don't back up the 1% doing everything they can to stop evil.

He originally was supposed to play the role of Kane's Deputy, but Staley Kramer wanted him to get some cosmetic surgery done on his nose so he would look nicer. Lee van Cleef decided not to have the nose job done and was cast as Colby instead.

Great video for those of us who love this history and have seen this classic movie. By the way Jeff, a small piece of trivia for you. The theme song from "High Noon" was sung by Tex Ritter. He was actor John Ritter's father. Another great version of this song was also done by Frankie Lane. Excellent music for sure.

You didn’t mention that High Noon is filmed in REAL TIME? Ouch that’s your blooper - that’s what makes it a masterpiece. I’ve driven past Tuolumne twenty times otw to Sutter Creek. 🤠

Lon Chaney Jr. (credited for 197 movies by IMDB) was also in High Noon. I am going to re-watch it soon, as I don't really remember much about the movie.

When I first moved to California in 1976,I lived in an apartment part of a 15 acre complex that was on the old Columbia Ranch in Burbank, the big part that was sold off. The remaining acreage which is now the Warner Brothers ranch was where the main western town set was located... despite several studio 'fires' the famous Hadleyville set also seen in THE WILD ONE with Marlon Brando, and TV shows like THE MONKEES and THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY. HIGH NOON had over 20 minutes cut after it was previewed, a whole sub-plot that involved Cooper's deputy Lloyd Bridges and more location footage from the Columbia National Park was a big part of that cutting. I worked on the first LETHAL WEAPON on the ranch where scenes including the finale were shot. THE MUPPET MOVIE was one of the last movies to use the famous 60 year-old western street, which was torn down without any fanfare in June 1993 to make way for more parking space. The real western street at the Columbia State Park saw TV western filming, namely the early seasons of TALES OF WELLS FARGO with Dale Robertson. The SIERRA RAILROAD was HOLLYWOOD's go-to location in Jamestown was their main railroad asset, but most of the studios had their own period locomotives, and RKO even had a genuine spur line going through their movie ranch.

The Sierra Railroad also doubled as Secret Service Agent Jim West's "Wanderer", in "The Wild, Wild West" and was in Clint Eastwood's "Pale Rider". Hmm, "The Wild One". Lee Marvin was in that one, and I loved how he could on occasion be a cutup with his characters as he was in that movie; quite a cutup in "Paint Your Wagon", "Cat Ballou", and "Emperor of the North".

Great video! I really do appreciate the time you put in to make these mini documentaries. The overlays are helpfully to see where things were back in the day and i love when you get to use your drone. Great work!!

Great video, read somewhere that mean guy Robert J. Wilke was a great golfer.

Also, visit Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown during the late Summer/early Fall. Dozens upon dozens of Hollywood films have been made there since 1919.

Sheb Wooley sorta looked like a one eyed, one horned , flying purple people eater. Great film. That ominus black smoke billowing out of that train was such a harbinger of forbidding. Tex Ritter's great voice. Thanks Jeff.

Columbia,CA where me Mither last resided before her passing in 2019. R.I.P Marilyn Lorene. Gone but never Forgotten. I used to come out to Modesto back in the late 70's early 80's and it was then a pretty decent place to live and enjoy... as was a lot of those smaller cities, towns along the Hwy 99 corridor. Oakdale, Ceres, Manteca, Ripon, Turloch, Merced, Farmington, Riverbank, Escolon, French camp, Stockton, Elk Grove, Shelton, Lodi, Tracy, etc have really taken a real hard hit in the last couple decades. Way too much. People.

Iconic film! Thank you so much for your research, visiting these places and sharing them so we can all see.

I've tried to locate the depot location for years thanks.

Trying to catch up with you on your videos as I have just recently found History Hunters. Another great one on a classic Hollywood western with a great cast! I loved seeing Sarah walking on the railroad tracks at the beginning as it brought back many memories of my sister and I doing this on our way to and from school. Although it is no longer, the neighborhood I grew up in was a very rural area, however, there were tracks that ran down the middle of our road east and west of our house. The school was about a block east on the opposite side of the tracks. I am sure they were originally built for railroads but were used only by street cars during the early part of the time we lived there. Thanks for allowing me to reminisce, and for the time and effort you put into making this video!

This is my wife's favourite movie she must have watched it more times than I have had hot dinners,she bought the dvd and will never gets tired of watching it,still is still madly in love with him to this day says she was in love with him since she saw the movie when she was 14yrs ,so it most have been a great movie.

Sarah never saw “SHANE” or “HIGH NOON” !!! What the hell does she watch??? How did you two ever get started?

The locomotive fireman seen ringing the bell as the train pulls in was veteran Sierra Railroad engineer Jim Baker, to highlight lesser known roles in the film.

All of the big & medium boulders you see, were under water at one time thousands of year's ago. Also coming in on Highway 108 you'll see Table Mountain on the left side of the road. Table Mountain is made of volcanic black pumice rock, it can also be found all over Tuolumne County.

I was hoping to recreate the town in a project I'm developing. Since I'm unable to travel due to money restraints, I was having a difficult time until watching this video. Thank you for doing what so many people are unable to do. As I'm watching it, I get chills running down my spine. High Noon is my all time favorite western and the original song is in a league of it's own.

I've never seen the movie but I will because I like Westerns 👍

The opening scene where the baddies gather before heading for town is one of the best of any movie. The beautiful Grace was about 30 years younger than Gary Cooper which seemed a bit odd.

Very interesting now I need to watch High Noon!! Love seeing a little of the back scenes where you were calling the ranch.. and in another video Sara Googled something for instant answers.. maybe someday she video you flying the drone!! The buggy was on display at the Coulterville History Center.

My ex wife lives in Sonora and used to live just outside Columbia. in 1984 she was holding our one year old son in Columbia watching Clint Eastwood film that brief Wells Fargo scene for “Pale Rider”, but she had to leave because our son was too loud. She also managed a hotel in Sonora and met Michael Landon and Victor French who’s TV film crew was staying there. Guess this was for that “Angel” show I forgot the name of. Great vid, though “High Noon” never really was a big deal to me. I did read the recent book about the Blacklist and the intentional metaphors it had on the script.

I always had my suspicion that parts of that movie was filmed in the area. I also thought the locamotive sitting on the southside of 120 east of jamestown was also used in the movie, cool video.

Sarah is a delight! be good to her,shes priceless!

Spent a lot of time out in that part of the county with my dad. At Warnerville/Crabtree used to be a small town long ago. Also the house at the end of that intersection we always called the mystery house since it was worked on and abandoned repeatedly over the course of maybe 15 years.

@@jbenziggy Not much of a town. From one old timer I knew as a kid in the 90s "He was 80 something at the time." there was a stage stop of sorts on the old apple orchard side of the road. Using google earth year layers you can sort of see the outline of it during certain years. What probably counted as Warnerville town was just a small rest area on the old stage and later train route though the area. Also worth noting. On Rock River road there is a old pond that some mining operation obliterated the greenery around it. The gate had a Warner Bros studio padlock on it. Someone at some point had cut it/shot it off but left it on the ground and I recovered it and still have it somewhere in a box of junk.

Very cool locations of movies. Lots of great details. I have a movie and tv then and now facebook page. I havent visited the locations , but i use screenshots of certain locations and then i do a Google map search of the locations.

I did one of Duel. It was filmed mainly in Santa Clarita. I have the before and after of the Acton Laundromat , Sally's Snakerama, Chuck's Cafe. Would you consider doing a video of the locations. Its one of my favorite movies. Ive been searching out some stops on the way. Cant find the the train crossing where the truck tries pushing him. Would also like to see some before and after Iverson Ranch locations .

Dear Jeff and Sarah, 17 June 2020. The 84 yo Aussie again. This video was of particular interest to me. In about 1953 as a single lad I was living and working in Sydney when we were coming out of a recession, I managed to buy a ticket and saw "High Noon" which I enjoyed very much. So you can understand you brought back memories of decades ago, muye bien, thanks! But now about your background audio/sound/ music. A few parts much too loud. As I said before, that and we oldies trying to understand your American accent is difficult for us. You do wonderful work, researching and editing takes a long time, I know. BTW....Van Cleef is "Americanized" as a long e. In Dutch, it is Fan Clay-f. Typically someone from or near a cliffside. The area to the East of Lone Pine also had movie history.....as in "Brigham Young," starring Dean Jagger, Ty Powell and 29 year-old Vincent Price as Joseph Smith. Dan Serdutz yes he did! I wrote to Sheb and he wrote back about an anecdote of a funny experience he had on the Columbia set. I guess he broke the fake glass window too early to steal the hat for Grace Kelly and Freddy Zinnemann buried his head in his hand in disbelief! Seems the camera wasn’t rolling. Lol

A great History Hunters video. Been to Crabtree and Warnerville several times.

With that train--I think it doubled as Jim West's "Wanderer" in "The Wild, Wild West"--I also pay my respects to the lates Robert Conrad, Ross Martin, Michael Dunn, and Richard Keil. Another priceless train-waiting sequence was the prologue to "Once Upon a Time in The West". Woody Strode, Jack Elam, and a "nameless" Italian, have set a trap for "Harmonica" (Charles Bronson). Woody collects water from the slowly leaking water tank that he's sat under, in the brim, the crown of the hat atop his head, and drinks it. Jack Elam plays with a fly in the barrel of his revolver. And when Harmonica finally arrives, he eventually nails all three bad guys dead, in short order. Lee Van Cleef had some other memorable train moments. As "Colonel Douglas Mortimer, CSA", in "For a Few Dollars More", he pulls the Emergency Cord in his train car, automatically stopping the train in Tucumcari, where he wanted to stop when no stop there, was indicated in the Timetable, and calmly de-trains his horse from the baggage car, much to the disgust and aggravation of the train crew and some of the uptight passengers. Sergio Leone liked doing interesting things with trains.

Loved the video, I think it is fun seeing the behind the scenes of a movie.

It's a shame your wife doesn't want to watch the movie it's 1 of my favorite movies ill watch it every time I see it's playing !

that windmill was screeching because the brake was on. you can tell the vane to hold it to wind is 90° from where it would be if it was pumping. either big winds or full storage tank(s).

I was just watching this movie on Saturday. It's funny how in the movie The town's people didn't want to get involved. And it took one man to take a stand. And his disgust of the town's people. Grace Kelly did a good job in the movie too. Good movie.

I think that movie represents a lot of folks in their apathy. But they were convinced they might die standing up to the villains. The only one who wanted to help was just an innocent kid and he was turned away. It is one of my favorite movies!

How about doing "Bad day at Black Rock"? It sure looked like it was shot somewhere near Owens Valley. Of course while your there maybe you could also find Perfection and Chang's Market for the Tremors fans.
