Why anyone will buy anything with a HOA or COA fee is beyond me.

At least the dirty money will still invest to launder their stash. If it's bought cash, it's likely a stash.

Having lived in Florida for 5 years and moved back to Ohio for the last year. The only thing I didn't like about Florida that I didn't like was the auto/home insurance situation. I liked everything else though. Ohio the everything else sucks except the cost of living and insurance. I can't move back though right now cause I'm helping family members.

@@DailyStalkerUpdate Property taxes are about the same in Ohio, income taxes are much higher. Bugs weren't an issue. I didn't mind the humidity (even in the summer). We had a category 1 and category 2 hurricane in West Palm Beach and they weren't that bad. Fort Myers got pummeled (but I didn't live there).

@@Aaron_R That's interesting. I've been looking at properties in FL on-line and property taxes are way high. Maybe Ohio is high too. AZ is low. I've always heard people cry about the suffocating humidity in FL, but haven't experienced it myself. I know that Cincinnati Ohio can get pretty humid. I guess FL isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I hope to check it out before long. Thanks for the input.

@@DailyStalkerUpdate I think I was okay with the humidity because I also enjoy going into the Sauna for 15 minutes a day up north. I'm weird. And Florida compared to a 120 degree 98% humidity sauna... That being said, in the summer to combat the heat/sun I did go out at night (and not as much during the day and also tried to stay in AC during the day.

I just made an offer to purchase a single-family home in a very nice gated FL HOA development. Allstate just quoted me $1800 for full property insurance. $1100 if I exclude windstorm/hurricane coverage. The HOA fee is $400/mo. The community is less than 20 years old, consisting of single-family, attached villas, and 6-story condo buildings. Excellent amenities. 1600 total units. Six miles from the cost. So, I'm guessing the rigorous new FL condo reserve and engineering inspection requirements do not apply. I am a little bit concerned about the possibility of growing costs for the development's master insurance policy.

It’s not just condos it’s everything because of insurance HOA’s if your subdivision has an HOA. Property taxes have also gone up. I was looking to buy a second home here but I now have to pass.

And yet the Florida population is increasing quickly and that's even though all those Florida seniors must have a higher death rate than do younger people in other states so a lot of people must still be moving to Florida. At what point do people stop moving to Florida because of high insurance premiums or trouble getting home insurance or the possibility of more powerful hurricanes? I'm pretty sure that Arizona doesn't get hit by many hurricanes.... though of course it's sort of nice to live in a place that is guaranteed to have a good water supply and where being able to cook an egg on the sidewalk is a rare thing.
