The most common problems is not condo boards stealing money but cheap condo owners refusing to pay for critically needed repairs.

Don't buy into a condo u have no control over the maintenance aspect ...that's a death sentence

The sad truth is that the HOA dues will need assessments added that will triple, quadruple their normal fees or probably much higher. That prices many limited income retirees out. The Florida retirement dream is over.

Someone should go to jail for this. Retail employees go to jail for injuring someone they caught stealing. Truck drivers go to jail for killing someone if their brakes fail. I just heard of someone going to jail for using sick time when they weren’t sick. Whoever is responsible for this should be no different, they should go to jail. These people know they shouldn’t be building on land that is not meant for building, they are supposed to be professionals and experts at building these structures.

The video begins by stating it's an issue of deferred repairs. Residents vote for/hire condo board members who then defer major expenses to keep a lid on fees/dues.

@@BeantownToBigD - not any longer. Florida HOAs must be fully funded starting in 2025. They’d better get off the stick and start raising the monies needed.

If you are a condo owner, you can probably find the culprit by looking in the mirror. Many condo owners vote for board members who wont raise condo fees to fund needed repairs, so the repairs aren't done.

Any apartments condos that are made thus large will crumble in a couple of years. The structure is too heavy which can also lead to more problems underground. There is so much waste material from each apartment or condo makes it worse and also the upkeep .they do not inspect these buildings that often

What a disaster? How does this happen? Oh yea corrupt politicians, contractors, building inspectors and so on. SMFH!

@@talk3194 Yea no sht. But who lets salt just corrode the sht out of the building? Where the buildings build correctly to code in a salt water, hurricane proned area? Thats what state inspectors are for.

@@ZMAN_420 My Grandma could tell you that any building over 30 to 40 years old built by the ocean is corroded and structurally unsound. These buildings are not repairable. That is why the drug cartel and mafia are going to swoop in and buy them up and tear them all down.

Are you attending board meeting and asking about bidding procedures and bids? Or just doing nothing, giving officers the opportunity to abuse the trust given to them?

We need more quality, safe affordable housing, NOT luxury housing. These developers better learn what "make it up on volume" means. we're going to have millions of homeless people very soon in this country, we already do, but climate extremes are going to make it far worse. "developers" better learn what "make it up on volume" means.

Will developers who rent out an entire building have to keep the same reserves?

And this is why some people go to other countries and buy condominium. The only thing is very expensive. I hope Americans can do better to take care of the buildings.

These buildings are maybe built in verry low quality. In my city Prague (Europe) we have condo in building which is 80 years old we did not need to make repairs. Many buildings have here more than 100 years and they do not need repairs just painting from outside. I can not hear even neibourghs, nothing.

Unfortunately, this is America, Money, followed by greed, with corruption thrown in equals speedy and often shoddy construction. Also note that building structures with 100 year life span does not keep people gainfully employed. For sure we can build quality, just the money men insisting that we don't. Knowledge gained from 40 years project managing tall buildings across North America, my advice, stay away from HOA's and condo's

If you have a condo only two stories, especially close to the beach, then your values went up really big.

FUNNY BUILDINGS IN NY ARE OVER 150 YEARS OLD

The rent/mortgage/maintenance is too damn high!! Turns out we actually need national housing codes and building regulations instead of using "regional differences" as an excuse for mediocrity. If something is too important to have to move state lines to get (ie SHELTER), it should be codified across all 50 states. And if you can die from lack of something, like health care or housing, it should be a human right codified in our Constitution.

Unfortunately, those who build on the sand are vastly different than those who build on bedrock. Therefore, a "national plan" as you suggest really doesn't work.

Yes, get in the line of thousands of people who want ‘X’ to be a Constitutional right, but don’t have a single clue as to how those things would be funded…..

Unless you’re very wealthy, and have lots of cash for updating, repairs, insane insurance costs, and sky high property taxes, I wouldn’t move to Florida.

The people of Florida can sue the government state and all related to the structure, territory of the structure and the lack of maintainance. Additional the negligence and irresponsibility of the profesionals licence, if there is someone without licence or not profesional degree is worst worest nightmare. La excusa y la justificacion para hacer estructuras de cristal y acero no es aceptable. Las vidas son mas importsntrs que las estructuras. Las personas en la florida deben ir demandando al estado y a todo y todos los relacionados. Ya dejaron saber la razon de no protejer y hacer las cosas mal. La gente es primero. La prioridad ahora es ubicar de forma segura a las personas que se quedaron sin hogar, y que esten bien de salud y bien alimentadas e hidratadas y cuidadas no importa la edad es a todos por igual y evacuar a todos inmediatamente. Investigar quienes estan detras de esas viviendas y estructuras de lujo de cristal y acero, eso es al mismo al estado y todo lo relacionado y a todos los relacionados con el asunto de esas estructuras en peligro y las nuevas de lujo.
