    To counteract a glossy finish (of inks) I have been mixing in AK's ultra matt varnish. It's a little faster than airbrushing the varnish separately. This is especially nice with the brush, but the paint does become really thin.

  • @RisingApe

    @RisingApe

    Жыл бұрын

    Yup, as I say in the video you can apply varnish or mix in matte medium which works well enough, the paint thickens when you add medium. Honestly though, for the later stages I just use a different paint.

    Great Stuff! Is Golden Neutral Gray a good substitute for Citadel Grey Seer Primer to then use Contrast paints on? Not sure how close the color is and if the contrast paints will flow properly like the GW primer.

  • @RisingApe

    @RisingApe

    Жыл бұрын

    Honestly I haven’t used it, but I wouldn’t get too hung up on the exact colour matching. As long as it is close enough it will give you the same end result. contrast paints flow more on golden because of its gloss surface. I have certainly never had any issues.

    I don’t do miniature figure painting, but I work usually quite small and very detailed on paper. I’m new to acrylics and I find it difficult to make those incredible fine lines, because of the thickness of acrylic paint, that I do can make with watercolor or India ink. When I dilute the paint a bit it becomes transparent. I don’t want to buy new paints to add to my existing paints, but I found out that Golden has a transparent high flow medium to increase the flow of paints. Do you think that’s the way for me to thin the paint for more detail, but without making the paint too transparent? Soon I want to paint miniature landscapes on small coins, at least that’s the plan, then I need to be able to make very small details.

  • @RisingApe

    @RisingApe

    10 ай бұрын

    I find that with decent quality paints you can get very fine lines with acrylics is mainly about brush control and having a decent sharp tip on your brush. That said try inks too, get something with high opacity and there are lots of colours to choose from.

    They are so similar to artist inks, that I wonder if the difference is not stuff like the medium used, but more the marketing. (Artist) inks tend to be a little more fragile. As in they are easier to reactivate when you go over them with a contrast paint or a premade wash (although a layer of varnish helps prevent that). Have you encountered the the same problem with the High Flow range? Maybe worth testing. If they are like artists inks but a little tougher, than they would stand out in that way.

  • @RisingApe

    @RisingApe

    Жыл бұрын

    I am sure the difference is the resins and binders they use, that’s basically the only difference between most paints. I have never had issues with them reactivating once dry, if you paint over when wet though, sure. I am always experimenting though so will muck about with this next time I use them.
