From my experience so far, the quickest way I believe to become more awake and truly in sync with your own imagination and consciousness, try to stop worrying about past or future. Always be in the moment. For eg let's say you only sitting at home and doing nothing, then be in that moment, i.e., exist sitting doing nothing at that time, don't think of any thoughts about past or future, stop getting emotional and simply exist doing nothing. Trust me this will change your whole perception about life.

That's how it feels to me too! I think our brain is a 'muscle' like anything else. Our consciousness decides to exercise so when you decide to meditate and find spirituality/balance you are growing your neuron connections. I think growth is what happiness feels like and happiness gives us temporary joy

When we discontinue the use of toxic substances of which abuse the mind, we become less dense because we are able to BE in the moment and embrace the energy of the I AM presence.
