Kali Audio's 2nd Wave improves on my favorite studio monitor in one significant way. But it looks like there's a few other differences no one else is talking about...

    If you make the logo badge out of metal, you could make it a touch mute or power button. Probably using the same microcontroller you used in the V2. One wire

    That was such an pleasant video to watch. An honest, positive and relaxed review of a great pair of speakers. The people @kaliaudio are doing a great job und really care about their customers. I had the V1's and the V2s are on the way. I can't wait to get rid of the noise level. Combined with the WS6.2, they make so much fun producing on and even listening to great music! Have a nice day, Matt!

    Well, I am happy I found this updated video. I'm on the verge on buying my first set of studio monitors. And the HS7 or HS8 is on my #1 list, so was the Kali... $500 for the Kali and the $1100 for the HS8's is a huge difference! So finding a good comparison video aint easy! Thanks.

    I just bought the LP-6 v1 from guitar center got a deal of 230$ for both. My friend passed the word around that they are extremely great for the money, so I pulled the trigger, and I absolutely love them I will be upgrading to the v2's or even the v3's (if they make them) in the future thanks for the video and I gently caressed the like button

    Thank you! Great comparison. I have some LP6s V1 and LOVE them. While I hear do the noise, it has never been an issue. My only gripe is I think they could be louder. I am able to get proper mix volume out of them but it seems like I have to push them to get there. I am using a MultiMAX as my monitor controller and one of the nice things about the MultiMAX is how you can calibrate it so the numbers on the controller correspond to SPL. With the LP6s I have to push it 20 above what the actual SPL is! So 105 = 85 as an example. (Though I don't monitor that loud. Too much for my space.) Thankfully I have them calibrated and they sound great! What I love most about them is how well the mixes I do with them translate to other speakers and environments. They're kind of like NS-10s in that regard. I think there's more detail and clarity than NS-10s though. Are there better monitors out there? Yes but you'll have to pay 10X as much for them.

    Great video - I never knew about the loopback potential, wow. I have the V1 LP-8s. They do have noise, like you said, but it's reduced with proper gain staging. So for anyone who owns V1 Kalis, make sure you're sending a relatively hot (but not overdriven!) signal to the Kalis and then set the volume on the Kalis to the max you'd ever want them. Then turn the volume down a little going in... This way you're not over-amplifying any more noise than necessary. I'll definitely be upgrading the to V2 speakers, eventually... Maybe the IN-8s!

    I have a lot more questions or thorough explanation with the loopback aspects of the V1. Planning on getting the v2s this weekend, but i also occasionally stream, but would most likely us the headphones or setup complete different sources for the desktop audio. I’m running Mac. Any info or suggestions would help. Primary use of the speakers would be completely recording studio, mixing, and playback use.

    Hello: Do you feel cabinet resonances in Kali, what do you think about a crossover in less than 2k and many music going to the tweeter? Thanks.

  • @BRANDONSOZO

    The problem with the v2 is that they don't have a hiss, but they have something worse: low end distortion around 70hz. just got them and noticed it right away, looked it up and tons of people have had the same issue and apparently Kali had them send it to them to do a firmware update to fix the issue, but they should have recalled these to begin with. it's a great monitor, but I'm not happy that I have to return these and figure something else out cause I don't wanna deal with this happening again with another pair.

    Haha wow! It has been a while since I’ve sat down with Rokits, but they have been lackluster in my experience with previous generations. To be fair, I haven’t sat down with the G4 which I’ve heard is much better than the older ones which were too bass-happy and more for fun than critical listening.

  • @MattCitrano

    @MattCitrano

    I wouldn’t say it has a very V-shaped sound, but I will say the HS7’s I used before were much more mid-focused. Those lacked a detail in the low mids for me though which I really appreciate having more of with the LP6s.

    Question for a total “newb” when it comes to audio setups- can these speakers be wired together without any type of amp? I’m looking to get a great set of speakers for my game/music room, it would be ideal to run 2 speakers to my PC without having to spend anymore money on anything else.. These speakers are highly recommended from everyone I’ve watched, but I only see input options on the back which confuses me on whether they can be connected together without any other extra equipment

  • @MattCitrano

    @MattCitrano

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes - these are “active” speakers, meaning they have a built in amplifier. You could technically use a 3.5mm cable that splits off to two 1/4” TS cables and connect your PC to the speakers that way (I do something similar for my PC while my Mac is connected with an actual interface). Connecting them this way will give you an unbalanced connection which can be more prone to noise, but it does work. It has only inputs because speakers receive audio. You would be sending audio out from your PC and into the speakers.

  • @rahliE777

    @@MattCitrano right I understand the PC is sending the audio out, I guess where I got confused is seeing most powered speakers coming in pairs and are easily connected together but the “light bulb went off” and I know understand that one of the speakers in the set is passive and running off the other speakers amp lol Thanks for the reply though maybe I’ll try that! Here’s my mb output options (it’s a Rog Strix z590a if you’re into PC building lol)- I have about 9 USB A ports, 1 USB C port that’s labeled for audio, and the standard 5 audio jacks (mic, line in/out, rear, sub), so I’m not sure there’s really a way for me to connect them without an interface unless I do what you mentioned.. The mb does have a built in amp (ALC4080 + Savitech SV3H712 AMP), not sure if that helps my cause in anyway but it does show features that are supposed to help with any “interference”.. I found a USB C- TRS splitter cables, do you think that would work better? Would that make it a balanced connection?

    I have V1 and while I can hear it, it is so faint that it's never been an issue. Whatever you're listening to will drown it out. If you've ever worked with passive monitors, the amps used to power the monitors have a much louder hiss.
