Another archaeologist using the book of Acts placed the shipwreck on the other side of the island and even found several anchors!

I always imagined it as a jungle because it says "barbarous people" in the KJV.

They were probably called that because most of the inhabitants of the island were not Greek or Roman, but rather a mix of Maltese and Carthaginian and would have spoken Punic rather than Greek or Latin. So to a Greek or Roman that would have made them 'barbarians.'
