Anyone else feeling the pain of watching teams run around Andy Sullivan as if she’s a damn practice cone? She hasn’t been the same in speed, defense, or tackles since coming back from her last injury. Even with Alana Cook’s predictable lapses, bringing Alana in and moving Ertz to the 6 will change this midfield mess and give us the best chance to crush Portugal’s spoiler dreams. Ertz gives you front tackles, side tackles, body checks, and big-bruiser vibes. Get her in the 6 where she can close that space and stop those 10’s in their tracks, or at least put the fear of concussions & crutches into them. And Vlatko needs to jolt his brain into the moment! The dude is slipping’ like an old transmission. Leaving 4 fresh-legged, rip-roaring & ravenous, world class ballers watching the last 20-25 minutes from the sideline while we had Netherlands gassed and on the ropes was criminal negligence. Not going for the kill was weak af. Someone please tell him to stop patting himself & the team on the back - drawing in game 2 of the group stage just screwed us. We’re now in a situation against Portugal: win by a few goals and we top the group, draw and we go to the bracket of death in the knockout rounds, or lose and it’s all over - g’day go home. This sh*t just got real!

Totally agree - glad I wasn't the only one losing my mind watching that last 30. Sullivan doesn't have the mobility to stop the quick teams - Ertz (or Dunn or Sonnet) would be a huge step up. Cook has not been great of late, but I bet she would look better with Ertz in front of her instead of Sullivan. Last Fall Spain, England, and Germany bossed the trio of Horan-Sullivan-and Rose, so something has to change if we want a different result now. I'm thinking maybe not putting the two slowest players on the team (Horan and Sullivan) on the field at the same time might be a good thing to try...

also, Put O'hara left back, she is still a beast, and move Dunn up to mid, Ertz or sonnet for the 6, just thoose changes alone would have made the first half much much better! bring in some of the bench! One thing about playing Thompson, is she runs them ragged, i really would have brought her in as a sub at some point.

The bench playes play the same way the older vets do. The US lacks fundamental team play. That’s the problem. It’s not necessarily the coach’s fault. It’s the way the IS women play! Watching this tournament I’m respecting how the sport overall has progressed for most of these countries women Tactically and ball-skill wise the rest of the world is passing up the US women. “Us your bench”….this isn’t basketball. You really should only sub 2 to 3 players. Your starting team is what you’re going to see for the most part unless you have that ace in the hole that can come in and score when your in 1-1 game. But people here acting like subs are going to win against a tactically sound team like the Dutch make me laugh.

I remember the 2007 semifinal against Brazil…the embarrassing 4-0 loss. Greg Ryan made all the wrong choices, like benching Hope Solo for Briana Scurry in goal. When the final whistle blew, he KNEW he would be fired. USSF needs that venom back, put that fear back into a coach’s term in charge when failure was not an option. Pia Sundhage came in after that, lost Abby Wambach during a friendly to a broken leg…made the adjustments and STILL won the 2008 Olympics, got to the 2011 WWC final and won the London 2012 Olympics. She left on her own terms, not as a losing manager.

Destroy? Really???? Netherlands did a great job at taking the ball away. Letting the US take runs and getting possession. Dutch owned 56% of possession. One player was not going to change that and destroy their tactics and ability to pass out of dangerous situations. The US women are still trying to beat teams with runs and athleticism. These days are over….the Dutch are not a gear team and Their keeper couldn’t even kick the ball near midfiel, BUT they know how to pass, possess the ball and finish. US were able to score because of their height. Not sure if that is going to carry them this tourny. We’ll see.

Next to Kerr, she has been the best striker in the NWSL the past 6 years or so; this year she is only behind Sophia in goals (of US players). Normally, you would expect the ref to protect her a bit more, maybe hand out a yellow card after the 10 foul in the first 30 minutes (just saying). That said, I thought she played the best out of the 3 mids in the first half. Sullivan was the weakest link by far, and we need a better option at the 6 if we are going to beat a good team. Soccer pundits keep bringing up Megan Rapinoe. A 38 year old player who came in as a sub in the game against Vietnam. She had 21 opportunities to contribute positively and she failed 19 times. Her 1 free kick was on goal wide to the leftm. Her 4 corner kicks were totally wasted. Her golden opportunity on goal 12 yards out went way up in the air. Lindsey Horan expression after that easy miss is priceless. She never hustled back to help on defense, and the midfielders kept attacking on the opposite side of the field. This performance against Vietnam makes Me question why she is a member of this squad. I suspect she is on the team to have the chance to shake Joe Biden's hand if and when the US wins the 5th World Cup. The 1st 15 minutes of the game against the Netherlands, saw a typical USWNT performance. When the Dutch scored a beautiful Goal in the 17th minute, it took out all the Air from the Sails of the US. Minutes later Trinity Rodman had a great shot on goal but the Dutch Goalie made a phenomenal save. The Dutch team was lucky, that's soccer. For 30 minutes after the goal, US were in unfamiliar territory. Rarely do they experience being behind. Rose came on and woke everyone up by taking a yellow. The US moved into a higher gear after Lindsey Horan scored. Another phenomenal save by the Dutch goalie, robbed Trinity Rodman a 2nd time. Alex Morgan offside goal showed great potential. I strongly disagree with all the criticism about the lack of substitutions. The Dutch did not have a 2nd shot on Goal. They had 2 shots off Target and only 1 corner kick to the US 11. The Dutch ended up with 57% ball possession, due to holding on to the ball in their half for 30 minutes after they scored. The USWNT just don't have too many opportunities to experience being behind. The Dutch made 4 substitutions, yet were very much out of gas in the last 10 minutes of the game. Had this game gone to extra time I'm sure the US would have scored. Keeping 10 players on the field for 100 minutes was brilliant. The US will play either Sweden or Italy. No Guarantee that Sweden will take top of their group. I suspect that once the knockout phase starts the US will present different lineups and that will make it difficult for other teams to prepare against the US. Looking at the other teams. It's possible that Canada, Norway & Switzerland might not make it out of their group. The two glaring elephants in the room that no one is talking about is the poor quality of the referees. Both Haiti and the Philippines got robbed by VAR. Maybe that's why the FIFA president is afraid to show his face at these games

The positive for USWNT supporters is that when -- not if -- Vlatko is replaced, there are some wonderful coaches out there that would do a far, far better job and even better, some are in the NWSL. Why does Jimmy believe that Sweden will win their group? Italy are far better than them. As well, don't put the pan before you caught the fish. USA needs to eliminate Portugal first.

What is happening right now in the world cup just highlights and shows how BAD Vlatko is as a manager. HE has demolished a well oiled machine that was confident on the field to a bunch of clowns having no idea where the ball is. Let's all raise ours hands and vote - fire this coach NOW before the next Olympics because he will not put a competitive team together! I know we can name numerous players Vlatko could have brought into camp for the first string of players - not all the want to be NOT experienced world players!
