There’s a reason Carli Lloyd wasn’t well liked. It’s because she wasn’t an ultra progressive. Pearce this is the equivalent of “nobody likes her anyway”. Come on, let’s do better. Her criticisms of both their play and their attitudes is valid.

Mexico didn’t even make . So instead of criticizing your country women like Carli been doing out of jealousy that Meghan Rapinoe . She either shut up if she as nothing good to say or just go away. Absolute disgraceful take boys. Unfair to Carli in my opinion. First you manufacture a reason for Rapinoe and others like they’re dancing on purpose to help the younger players. I guess they’re playing 4D chess. Carli was spot on and everyone on that set was saying the exact same thing. And comparing what she said to the men’s team is silly. We know there’s different expectations for the two groups.

Youth sports in America are pretty effed up across the board, mind you, but the sitch in soccer is a little different. Using pay-for-play traveling teams & college instead of European-style developmental pro leagues doesn’t work anymore. You’re not bigger, stronger & faster anymore. @@musicful7036 Meh, I disagree. Brazil had a team with tons of talent and were arrogant and boisterous and they won. Hell, a team with Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, etc. Come on now. The players are fine. What they don't have a manager with a system that forces them to play as a team much less a manager good at managing egos. Put in another context, Del Harris couldn't manage egos and didn't have a system that forced Kobe and Shaq to play together. However, Phil Jackson did. The triangle was the tactic needed to get them to work together. Phil was also great at managing egos. Vlatko has no system, -- so nothing the players must comply with that holds them accountable if they do not do their role -- he has no flexibility -- clearly, as he has stuck with the 4-3-3 despite it clearly not working -- and he cannot manage egos (obviously, or he would have benched Morgan by now and Rapinoe wouldn't be on this team). Everyone wants to turn this into a political diatribe or indictment against this team or wants to say "the rest of the world is catching up." It isn't either. This is simply what happens when you have a bad manager.

The older players seem to see this as their fun retirement party or farewell tour instead of wanting to pass this legacy on to the younger players. I am wanting badly for them to win but just not enjoying the performances so far, hope they can switch things up, change tactics, formations, player positions....anything, whatever it takes to find the best form of this team in the knock out stage. While you guys are saying that some of the criticism is 'over the top' I really think it's well-deserved. It's more than their play or lack thereof. They haven't really done anything to make America (as in previous WWC's) want to root for them. It's that they stand in silence for the National Anthem every freaking game. It's that they screamed sexism for equal pay even though they were being paid more (including during the COVID shutdown), it's that there only appears to be a one-sided activism mentality allowed there, it's that they crap on the country that has given them so freaking much. They wanted the fat-ass paycheck (off the men), they got it. Now they have to prove that they deserve it. They play like their shit don't stink. With the men it's very different- the USMNT is still learning to play against the best in the world and that last WC they played their hearts out (Pulisic goal against Iran). I haven't seen that level of effort from the women. Gimme an undergunned group that plays their hearts out any day of the year.

They can't handle that they are being exposed, because they are NOT focused on the game and it has seeped down to the youngers as well. That's why they need to go and USWNT needs to start fresh. It is the tactics thats to blame, everything falls on Vlatko, the talent is here to dominate and put teams under pressure, but when Portugal dominates the USA for 90 minutes, that is a major problem. This team looks like they have no idea how to play, talk all you want about Jill Ellis, but she was a great coach, you have more than 12 players on the team, when you are allowed 5 subs, why is Vlatko not using them??? The Netherlands game was there to be had in the second 45, but he only made 1 sub, I think this team is tired, Sweden made 9 changes to their team last night and still won the game. I blame everything on the coaching, but i do agree 100% with everything Carli Lloyd said, there is alot of arrogance on this team and maybe getting knocked out in the rd of 16 will be the best thing to happen, sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom to realize things need to change. Team is around 7th best squad at wc and results will prove that out. Will not make it past round of 8. People used to talk crap about pia sundage(sic) and jill ellis but vlako has reach a new low in ineptitude comparable to Berhalter on the mens side. Oh wait. There are still a few who believe in Berhalter. That will be proven soon enough

Rapinoe is way overrated. Way more concerned about herself and off-the-field "issues" than winning. Good dancer, though. 😏

Excuses ,, finally the rest of the world is catching up, the first few WC the US had a huge advantage, but today Europe is even or better than the US. Latin America will catch eventually , remember many country don't have the infrastructure but they have heart..

So what, the USWNT is now so precious now that there beyond criticism, that funny, they played horrible and they're lucky they made the round of 16 , i don't believe what LlOYD said is anything beyond what the USWNT deserve to be said about them. Ill tell you what thoe. Lloyd words will come true when the USWNT is eliminated by a powerful Powerful SWEDEN team. That team is has great ball movement and is much more advanced then the US is, and i think Lloyd ( who was a a great player) is pointing that out, that the USWNT has fallen behind yet they where celebrating, cmon, the standards are much higher than that.

I just think women’s soccer in Europe has been improved so much in just the last 2 years that the best Europeans teams have surpassed the USA technically and tactically and can match their physicality, which was their main strength. You have these so called young world stars, but that all play in the NWSL, and no disrespect but the football in the NWSL is nowhere near the level of the women’s football played in Europe now. It is just kick and rush football. There is a also a level of deluded arrogance from US players, US media and US fans because they fail to see that the women’s game has gone to a new level in Europe tactically and technically but still think the USA can dominate. Those days are gone. Carli Lloyd’s comments are more about her defending her legacy, because the rest of the world is now saying see the Americans where never really good, they just won because they had better fitness, so Carli is claiming mentality is the problem, instead of admitting the USA running more than opponents no longer wins against the top European teams any more.

BOOM!!! You nailed it. The European women are learning tactics taken from the men’s teams that have been employed for decades. There is a tradition in Europe of a skill level that the US does not have. The leading edge that the USWNT had is no longer. They are now going to need to step up. Otherwise, all that garbage about equal pay will look absolutely stupid and they will have Rapino and her crew to thank for it.

They aren't machines. Every team has its ups and downs. They had some good opportunities and didn't score. Next time they might score. But clearly the gap has closed and they will have to work hard to win the Cup.

These comments are confusing, in no way did these guys take some hardline stance against Carli's authority to make criticism or that the team is playing good - I think unlike the anthem mob they weren't eager to read into them being happy they moved on and also addressing more important aspects of what's happening right now.
