Maybe it's just me but I already thought Doc was and is a good person and meant no ill will by the comment "confined to a wheelchair". It simply and accurately described the scenario that he was discussing. Making someone feel guilty for not capitulating to your preferred terms is a you problem. Not a Doc problem but he's a nice guy with a wholesome community so I'll say the tough parts.

  • @truckerdave8465

@@joeyreynolds2975 He meant no ill will, and that person that ‘corrected’ him didn’t do so in bad faith. Clearly Doc appreciated the viewpoint. He also told a story about how his grandmother literally lamented one of her sons being ‘confined to a wheelchair’ and never saw anything but negativity, even though his uncle went on to do amazing things. It perfectly illustrates the negativity inherent in the phrase. I don’t think the hermits need anyone to ‘say the tough parts’ for them. I think they are adults who can speak for themselves and nurture the kind of vibes they want to see in their communities.

@@joeyreynolds2975 The other person is correct. Someone telling you "hey, just so you know, the language you used can be stigmatizing to people like me and the tools we use to navigate the world" is neither a "hostage situation" nor "shaming decent creators into pleas for absolution" nor "cry bullying". It's literally just someone letting you know that you accidentally hurt their feelings with how you phrased something. As human beings, we are bound to accidentally hurt each other like that every once in a while; that's just part of life. What matters is how you react to it when you do. Doubling down and insulting the people (like you did here) is not the right way to go. Take a leaf out of Doc's book.

Same here. My great-grandmother had polio when she was young and her right eye was paralyzed (that’s the word that was always used. I don’t know if there’s another word for it) for the rest of her life. I feel kind of bad, now, because it used to creep me out when I was a kid.

I know the feeling of limited movement Doc. I'm nearly fully blind and have low bone density and muscle wastage so my movements is very limited and I often have to get pushed in a wheelchair when I'm going places. I also suffer from chronic fatigue because of medical complications. I hate when people treat me different, I want to be treated the same as I was before I lost my sight, not have everyone tiptoe around me

That was so special to hear about your family and their history with mobility and the hurdles they mounted to face life head-on. Thank you for sharing such a personal bit of info about yourself. You've got such a great head on your shoulders and your heart for caring about others really shines through, no matter your language barrier at times. You have such a humble willingness to learn and adapt to correction and are always seeking to improve yourself through learning and accommodating everyone's comfort levels. This is one of the reasons among many on why you're one of my favorite Hermits. So glad to be a fan and can't wait for the next episode!

I foresee the ending of the season coinciding with the ending of Decked Out. The hermits still have quite a bit of work they can do on their bases, but they do seem to be plateauing in terms of big projects. The only exception right now is Decked Out, which still has a month or 2 to completion, then another 2ish months of play time. We can reasonably be sure then that the season will end probably around September or October.

Last year my brother fell 4m (12ft) into a cornbunker. The fire department worked 1,5 hours to get him out of there (thankfully it was empty and without gases). He shattered his 2nd lumbar vertebrae and got a replacement out of titan. Afterwards he wasn't able to walk and was in a wheelchair for a few months while trying to learn to walk again. At the moment he is able to walk again without walkingcanes when walls are near to aid his balance. Your story from your relative just brought me to tears, and made me shake. I totally can relate to the fact that it removes the floor under your feet if something like that happens. Thank you for sharing your story doc. In love, a big fan of yours
