HermitCraft S9#22: Decked Out - Phase 9: End Game

Ойындар

Finally we reach the bitter sweet conclusion to Tango's Decked Out 2. This is the final phase. Much like Phase 8, we go tryhard mode again to get as many tomes as possible. However, the dungeon in Phase 9 gives us a pretty good challenge.

    In case you never found out, it was Hypno who liked to stash ravagers in all your preferred paths. He put them in the right side ice tunnels, in the kneeling man room, and in that mushrooms window room. He wasn't just trying to slow you down, but he always played max clank max hazard, and wanted to keep the guaranteed paths out clear.

    Totally agree! I loved the start of Decked Out 2 because of the excitement, challenge and drama, but then I loved the later bits just as much because of the strategy, deck building and unexpected moments. I not only is that a great compliment to Etho's skills at running the dungeon and simultaneously entertaining us, but also Tango for building a game that has many layers of progression and entertainment!

    The crown shop solution would be tying it to the player instead of communally. So you would have a button in your "locker room" that was say 10 crowns for the 1st shard each phase, then increase the crown cost for purchases beyond the first, maybe +5 crowns per additional shard, so 15, then 20 etc.

  • @couchalmark675

    @couchalmark675

    4 ай бұрын

    You'd still have the problem that shards were objectively the only thing worth spending crowns on. The crown shop needed to offer other permanent rewards if shards were going to be buyable with crowns, because every temporary benefit the shop offered was competing against the combined rewards of an entire run.

  • @MLAM518

    @MLAM518

    4 ай бұрын

    How about selling the shards directly in the dungeon instead? You'd have a second shop somewhere at lvl2/3 that can contain shards, meaning that you have to bring your crowns in if you want one : high risk high reward. It would also make buying keys and single use cards more worthwhile for those runs.

  • @mailee2353

    @mailee2353

    @@MLAM518that’d be similar to the black market from do1. You had to go in with your emeralds and make it to the room to buy items. Idk if tango was trying to avoid doing similar things but I think he was just trying to add some variety to the game and trying new things instead.

  • @Daniel-rd6st

    @Daniel-rd6st

    4 ай бұрын

    I thought of something similar, too. If the dungeon could recognize players, it could solve a few problems and also add some quality of life. Lets say, every player gets a specific keycard, that allows the dungeon to recognize the player. Nothing would ever have to leave the dungeon, the deck could be stored there, as could the crowns. The shop could then be also player specific, drawing directly from the stored crowns. Also it would be way easier to calculate the amount of shards everyone gets, since you could pull out player specific statistics, like number of runs played, w/l ratio, amount of embers spend per run, amount of crowns collected per run, etc. Those statistics then might influence what the shop offers or maybe even the difficulty of the dungeon itself (for example by messing with hazard or clank, activating additional traps, etc)

Thank you so much for the great content, your videos have consistently been something I've looked forward to this year.

    You should consider asking Tango to help out with decked out 3! I know it’s a ways away, but he’s said he would be happy for more help but feels bad asking people, especially since he would want to maintain all game design authority. But I would imagine you could be a fun henchmen. “Etho, design a shuffler that does XXX,” requests etc could be fun for you! Plus it would be helpful to have a second person that could do any necessary upkeep of the dungeon.

    One thing I think could help with that shop issue is if Tango dedicated a spot in the shop to shards, where one is guaranteed to show up every time the shop refreshes. Whether this is an extra slot or replaces an existing one, and whether shards can appear in the other slots or not, would be up to Tango.

I’d normally never watch something this long for this many episodes yet here I am episode after episode watching completely until the end. If the analytics are anywhere close to my personal experience, that would be super impressive with such long videos.

Watching you have fun running this game and how much you love this game is amazing. The way you move around ravagers and control them, The looting of course, Your Dungeon knowledge and how you know where the ravagers at all times, Analysing and knowing which path is the best way to go are at all times is honestly so cool. GG on Winning Decked Out 2 and 1. You deserve so much.

    26:05 I'm super late, but you could introduce a third currency you get from doing a run (win or lose). Call it Frost Essence🔵or something. Have the average gain be less than one run's worth, which prevents infinite runs. And have frost shards cost those plus crowns. Super easy to implement (which Tango cared a lot about) and removes the infinite shard problem categorically. More currencies is typically not great though, and I'm sure it would've caused other problems I'm not thinking of.
