​@@stevena105 like iskall told etho before running the first vault of the vod, the odds of finding the item necessary to craft a treasure chest is 1/70 in an already extremely rare chest to find. Etho finding three of them in ~30 treasure rooms (versus the 210 it would take on average to find three) is crazy luck/RNG

The treasure scroll drop rate is actually 1 in 17.5 chests. Iskall forgot the epic tier rolls 4 times for each treasure chest.

If it is 1/17.5 per room, and Etho's done 30 rooms, it's about 24% chance for him to have gotten at least 3 chests. Lucky but not insanely so.

The game isn’t working “good” and that part of it is one that a lot of people hate. Gear needs to be craftable where you have complete control. You can lock yourself out of progression if RNG isn’t on your side. And I’m talking about just finding decent gear, not even rolling it.

@@Bob_Smith19 I like the RNG, you have to put more thought into whether it's worth sacrificing what you have for something else. Plus you can discover higher level modifications in dungeons and apply them directly to gear so the progression isn't completely random. It's also pretty hard to lock yourself out of progression because once you're a high enough level to where that would matter you would probably have enough resources to just craft new gear .

With modular routers you can use a camouflage thing to make it look like you got a treasure chest of your own

Etho psychology 3of210. O I thought he was going to put down a wooden chest I gave him. Nope. He has Another non-fascade treasure room chest. Good comic relief. 😂

I think going back to the altar would be fine IF it glowed or marked itself in some way cause some of the challenges(like the mine 9 unique ores) are really hard so by the time you finish it you could be 10-15 rooms away or even down a different track.

We need etho to post some videos getting these chests😭

If iskall said the odds right the chance of getting 3 scrolls form 30 chests is about 0.8% chance

You're forgetting that the investment in the crystal isn't the only investment. The emotional response is strong because of the time it takes to run a vault. It's not a 2min done deal. "you just spent 10min just to find out it's doomed, but you're already in so you'll keep looting for 10min still..."

This demonstrates the gear crafting experience well. “I ran a heap of vaults and finally got this omega gear! I can’t wait to spend 50 fundamental focus and then have to trash it! It’s so fun!” This is why people stop playing.

He experiences it all the time. He just doesn’t care, to an extent, how much others hate the RNG.

Fading should just be a % chance of proccing on hit (30-50% maybe). Maybe even introduce an implicit that reduces negative effects of idol failures or buffs successes.

Hey Iskall. It was great to hear you talking about the thinking behind your game decisions. In reference to the player investment into a crystal, I agree the cost in game is typically small to craft a crystal. The investment is the players time. A vault is typically a 30-35 minute investment minimum and if you’re running for god reputation that can end up to many hours of what feels like a waste of time. You will likely end up with some loot, but I find I have to hyper focus on the god quest and pass up most looting opportunities.

Etho deserves it after what Iskall did to those boots 3 minutes into the video lolol

The thing with fading is that once you have it, It isn't very clear what your options for counterplay are... Afaik the main options are either having Mana Shield or using Hearty Apples for the rest of the vault. Not everyone runs mana shield, which is fine, but most people also don't really seem to know about Hearty Apples. Honestly i sort of feel that Hearty Apples need to be mentioned somewhere in a quest or something, but i'm not sure of an elegant way to do that. They're also so useful for high tier dungeons

since yall were talking about unique gear, i had an idea for a unique focus. if you get 3 treasure chest scrolls in 40 openings, you get a focus (or transmog because RNG) that's literally a smooth stone slab. call it Ethoslab

I found myself feeling proud of the things I had made on various servers, Your free server Iskall, Stress’s Monsters of Nowhere server, and Xisuma’s plot world server just to name a few. Viewership maybe low and my available time to record is gone… but I still want to share my on going ideas and stories in some form. Maybe one day I can return to making videos. The focus system and reworking armor and tools is pretty close to how currency works in Path of Exile. It’s almost as if the system was inspired by the Path of Exile currency system.

Lucky hit is like 2.something% chance on helmets. It took me well over 50 fundies and 2 opportunistic focusses on a creative world to get 1 roll on it. I started to doubt it was on helmets and not on leggings or something.

I just find the God Altars too risky to ever even care about the buff you could get for succeeding - even in regular vaults. As someone who isn't a pro vault hunter like yourself, there's (just going off my track record) significantly less than 50% chance of me succeeding a god altar - and getting a curse early (unless it's just the soul shard one) means that I'm either doomed to die before completing the objective, or the lack of loot just means I might as well forfeit and just start a new vault. So I only ever grab them if there's like, 10 minutes remaining, with the expectation that I'm probably going to fail it.

The crystal isn't the cost of a vault, it's the time you put into it. You spend some time farming resources for the crystal, but if you have any sort of decent setup, that's almost no time at all. Almost all of the time is spent inside the vault, trying to succeed it. So if you fail from something like fading, you aren't losing much from the crystal, you are mostly losing all the time you just spent in that vault - imagine it not as losing the resources needed for the crystal, but losing the reward you would otherwise get from succeeding (maybe more like half a reward, from needing to leave on average maybe half way through any time you get fading). Or, put another way, imagine vault crystals were free. Think to yourself why it is still bad to not succeed.

Be needs to understand that most players have limited time to play. He should assume it’s one hour a day which is two vaults and practically no time to look at what you got and sort through gear.

​​​​@@Bob_Smith19 I don't think iskall isn't aware of that - it's just that people having a limited amount of time to play games isn't something game design can change. there are other games where a round/match/etc. takes 5-10 minutes, and some people might prefer that, but those are fundamentally different types of games. the vaults having a 25 minute timer (plus a bit of extra time if you have relics or use vault fruit), with the option to exit through the portal at any time, makes sense. there's a good balance between how long it takes to complete objectives and gather a good amount of loot while keeping the time short enough to get players to set their priorities and choose what they want to do in each vault. vaults taking that amount of time isn't incompatible with not having several hours to play the game every day. sure, you might want to run more vaults, but that's not a game flaw. quite the opposite - if you enjoy something, it's normal to end up wishing you could do it more. (plus, if someone wanted to focus solely on running vaults, there's a game rule to make crystals cost nothing. and if you're playing on a single player, you could technically exit the game while you're in a vault and come back to it another time.)

These 1-hour vods are a great concept. Keep it up!

I've always tried to comment and I'm not sure if my comment ever gets read but thanks iskall I don't know how but you somehow always know when I'm going through something and I sometimes check and just be like I hope iskall uploaded something and you have always been there for me to take my mind off the terrible things that happen to me and I can't express how much you have helped me throughout these times and made these sort of time a bit more bearable I know it sounds like I'm just renting but thank from the bottom of my heart fall the joy and all the good time you have made me have I really wish the best for you and wish too see you in the best of places because that is truly what you deserve since you are honestly the best and this break you took made me one again realize how much I truly enjoy your content since my page just seemed un alive so again thank you you are truly the best in my eyes

I wanted to comment in the discussion around minute 24... I think its not the crystals that is the real investment for most of the people. For me its the time... With a Job and family its precious time to go in a Vault. And Sure the Paradox are so strong, that you can`t ignore the Altars. So if you fail them its time lost and make your past time a little harder due to the Curse...

47:11 it's actually even worse than 1 in 20. At lvl 70 it's 3.85% for Lucky Hit Chance and goes all the way down to 2.44% for lvl 100.

I would love to see a chaos scav vault run by you two, would be very chaotic but also could be quiet fun depending on the modifiers

What if you could exit and enter a vault freely before the timer starts, before you leave the start room. And when someone leaves the start room it becomes a normal vault. Could be a little bit more forgiving for us airheads🤧

Iskall and etho such an amazing duo .pls do a shared base like s8 again in s10 hermitcraft

how about changing it so that, for example: 50% god favor is +0.5 towards your next repuation in that god per altar. At 50% every 2 altars guarentees a point. This offers players the ability to track progress, and map there future grinds. (would also need to make 20% favor charms the low end)

To the discusion on god altars. How about making the harder challenges have better rewards and also a lower chance of giving you the harder curses? or maybe just a higher chance of a favor.

He's looking for the lucky hit implicit, only available on helmets. Chests have block chance, boots have movement speed. Speaking of crafting, he could just craft a bunch of helmets and look for the lucky hit implicit.

what would be a nice concept for the god altars, is if you get a debuff you could do another altar and if you complete the challenge then it would take away the debuff, so it gives you a chance to get rid of fading

Well, maybe, but if you have a debuff it could potentially be harder to complete other altars, and then you would either not get punished for failling an altar, or you would get 2 debuffs, which could ruin a run or even result in you dying (I think? I have never played VH, I only watch these guys play it). I do still like the idea of somehow sacrificing some time in exchange for removing a really annoying curse.
