They did get a little confused with half-ton powertrains and heavy-duty. Unless they were talking about early 2000’s trucks, but no one is really shopping for a twenty-year-old truck for working or traveling.

@@chriswilson433 yes and GM has used the 6.0 is the heavy duty trucks since 1999 I believe. They used the 5.7 in the OBS heavy duty up until 2000. I do not remember then ever using a 6.2 gas for the heavy duty. The other engines I remember are 7.4 and 8.1.

18:00 I am going to have to disagree with the gas vs diesel towing mileage argument. In recent years, I don’t think the fuel mileage difference is a positive toward diesel. The difference is barely 30% and that doesn’t pay for the fuel cost difference alone. The many other cost increases for diesel ownership would still lean toward gas, even if you tow often(but obviously, not daily). The main advantages for diesel, now, is confidence in towing, driving at altitude and range while towing.

I think an important differentiation you should make is sprung vs. un-sprung weight being added to a truck. If I'm not mistaken, adding bigger tires doesn't affect your payload (except the spare tire), but adding things that are above the springs does. Of course the bigger tires will still affect the ride, the braking, and acceleration, but perhaps not the payload.

GM never used the 6.2 in the HD trucks. They had the 6.0 and 8.1 2001-2007 then Just the 6.0 until 2020 when the 6.6 replaced the 6.0. I went for a Duramax 6.6 over the 6.6 gas only because I don't feel the new 6.6 gas is built to last like the 6.0

The engine architecture and lifter design are similar to the 5.3 and 6.2 Ecotec family of engines and have issues with oil pumps, high pressure fuel pump and lifter issues. GM would have been better keeping the 6.0 Vortec design with multi port injection and the lifter design. At the time I traded in my truck I had 1 oil pump failure on my 2016 Silverado 1500 5.3 and 2 non AFM lifters with issues. I went up to a 2500hd as I needed the payload. I wanted a gas but at the time in 2021 they were harder to come by in anything other than work truck trim. Also the engine was only in its second model year I was not as comfortable after having issues on my prior truck. My brother inlaw just got a 6.6 gas GMC Sierra 2500HD so will see how his does.

Warehouse clubs (BJ's, Costco, Sam's) usually sell quality DEF much cheaper than at a gas station. For example, where I live, BJ's has a 2.5 Gallon jug of PEAK brand DEF for $14.49. Walmart has a 2.5 Gallon jug of "Super Tech" brand for less than $11.

Hi TFL team, thank you soo much for all those informative information's. I really appreciate all your precious comments. I'm looking for a Ford F350. I was hesitating between Ford Godzilla 7.3 (gas) and Engine - 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo (diesel). I have a truck camper (needs to haul total payload of 4000 pounds). Not towing heavy stuff. Cold environment (Canada winter's) It's kind of clear now that I will go with Godzilla (less constraints, No DEF to fill out, less maintenance, easier to repair when out of no where, etc ) Thanks again !! Cheers !

I need to move from my 1/2 ton to a 3/4 or 1-ton. I own a construction company and can only afford 1 vehicle for work and personal. I have a family so being able to carry 5 is important. I’d like a “luxury” interior but I know this can reduce payload. I’m going to buy a dump trailer and also a 16’ cargo trailer. I want to avoid a CDL because I cannot get the medical approval for CDL. It not really easy to figure out what I need. A 3/4 ton or 1-ton are very similar but it seems payload on a 1-ton is quite a lot more for compatibly equipped trucks. Wish these manufacturers would get rid of the column shift.

I am planning to buy a 250/2500 for a light-ish truck camper and I definitely don't want a diesel. Modern HD diesel engines are way too expensive, unreliable and are unnecessary for my needs. I'm leaning toward the F250 7.3, but also considering the GM 6.6 w/ Alison 10-speed. I am looking forward to your coverage of that powertrain.

I would like to see you all focus on ride quality under tow (bumper pull and fifth wheel) In today’s world so many haul campers ride quality and a focus on camper tow with all these that would be a great focus. Instead of the gauntlet grab all these trucks and run thru i70 east and west through Indianapolis about 10-20 miles on each side of it. Some of the worse highways and do some feedback on camper towing as well as ride quality loaded down. I’m in the market to leave my 21 2500 Cummins and ride quality towing out bumper pull is focus number 1

I’m shocked Andre likes the old 6.0 in the Hd trucks. I work on a fleet of 2017-2019 2500s with the 6.0 in them. While they are extremely reliable, when it comes to towing they are borderline unsafe in my personal opinion. Anything and I mean even a dual axle cargo trailer empty makes these trucks so slow it’s EXTREMELY dangerous to merge into traffic. The operators tell us that all the time and when we have to test drive them before putting them back into service I can confirm their complaints. It’s just extremely sketchy. Anything over 5000lbs in these trucks it’s just a bad experience touting I feel.
