I switched from a Tesla Model Y to an Ioniq Limited, and I couldn’t be happier. It is really an incredible car. I did pay over MSRP, but got it in time to get the tax credit, and got more than I paid for the Y, so ended up ahead.

Even without the federal tax credit, this thing at 45k vs a Tesla Model Y at 63k minus 7.5k federal tax credit, I'd still take the Hyundai for the better quality, better design, better service. It's not even a difficult decision!

@@TheAndrwwJohnson There is an awful lot close to Tesla. Bad workmanship, lousy paint, lots of beta testing, "big brother is watching you," and on and on... Tesla is a Hype, like Apple, and it works as well as Apple - they even have a similar "Guru." Tesla is a data company that serves the stock market and its shareholders. They do this by making and selling cars. While the making is terrible, aside from battery technology and half of the data stuff - the other half (FSD) is constantly promised but never delivered, the selling is excellent. But who really cares about the making? The customer follows the hype and get's a hip item that is flawed and crazy overpriced. However, he is totally delighted with that because he has been thoroughly brainwashed. Brainwashed by an army of social media content creators who appear to work undercover for Tesla. Don't get me wrong, I was close to buying a Tesla, but was lucky and able to flee from their reeducation camp. Tesla isn't the holy grail for EVs, and time will tell. The big dogs were late for the hunt but have now started running, and many hounds soon catch the hare.

@@TheAndrwwJohnson what service and what features? Serious, anything that an iPad can't do? Service as in nonexistent 3 month out waits for simple issues (that arise within hours of ownership)? Incompetent Tesla service can't even properly align the wheels of the car let alone the panels that come misaligned from the factory. Also many proven stories from owners getting their car back with nothing but stains, broken trim pieces and original problem going unfixed. OH on top of all that no loaner cars or even Uber credit now for "luxury" car brand? LOL WHAT SERVICE?

Ioniq 5 owner here. Couple corrections, AWD is not on "all the time". If you drive in "ECO" mode and don't have i-pedal engaged the front motor will disengage via a clutch to reduce drag and increase efficiency so the car is effectively RWD unless it detects slippage or needs to accelerate hard. The second thing is that the newer software has gotten rid of the nixie tube look for the radio, so your neighbour will be happy I guess. I think it looks cool.

Anything remotely affordable is just a glorified hatchback. I say "suv" in quotes bc true SUVs are body on frame.

One issue with EVs is that they do not have a long track record for replacing how many gas powered card are used. for example, it is not uncommon for a gas car to be on the road for 25-30 years. Furthermore, many quality models will often make it to that point with basic maintenance (oil changes, and belt replacements at recommended intervals). Many EVs will run into major battery issues long before that, as since they often only charge the packs to 80% capacity, it can take years for there to be a perceived range loss, but beyond that, li-ion batteries do not have a linear degradation curve, instead, they have a curve where for the first 500 or so cycles, the degradation is pretty linear, then it starts to degrade at a steeper and steeper rate. In your phone, that will often be seen as your phone going great the first year or 2, then within a few months, it will rapidly lose capacity. Many Tesla cars have experienced issues like this as well.

Looks like a nice EV. I'm not at all sold on these things and I still want to know how they will operate in a constantly cold climate. In theory EV's are great for the environment unless you live where they mine the minerals to make the batteries and there is the problem of disposing of those batteries at end of life. A great EV if you can find one! There in limited supply which is why dealers are marking up the price. The other issue is they will not qualify for the IRA EV tax credits which Tesla and other brands will so this will not make them that competitive to budget friendly EV shoppers. With the Chinese and Vietnemese soon entering the US market there should be a great choice of EV's for everyone at a reasonable cost. Kudos still to Hyundai/Kia for aggressively creating a great EV and not giving silly excuses like Toyota and Honda and betting on hydrogen fuel vehicles.

Well, when average income households can afford these "Made for NOT average income households," it may gain mainstream traction. Like all EV's currently, they've priced themselves well beyond the reach of all income aspects except for the rich. Which explains the 1%-2% EV owner's to date. Once gas stabilizes price wise and Electric shoots up, it'll be "Business as usual" again in the Automotive world.

You know I would be more confident if the third-party charging solutions such as electrify America and so on were more reliable. It seems like they gobbled up all the government grants to put the charging stations in. And probably pocketed some good coin along the way. Purposely forgetting about the fact that these chargers would need to be serviced. I’ve heard too many horror stories are these third-party chargers not working and being out of service more often than not. Yes Tesla is a more expensive solution, but at least they’re charging infrastructure is more reliable and more integrated with their vehicles. I love the ionic five and I would love to save a ton of money instead of buying a Tesla. However if I wanted to do a road trip I just can’t trust the third-party charging networks beyond what Tesla has in place today. They have certainly set the standard that unfortunately many third-party charge suppliers lack .

I think people get to focused on comparing every EV with a tesla. A tesla is one manufacture of EVs, its like comparing a ford Ranger with a Mercedes S class. A car having navigation is stupid in my mind when you carry around a device with thousands of maps loaded on it. that's why non Teslas have android auto and car play. And for charging Tesla's are better but how long did it take to build the super charger network and a what cost.

@@chrishansel9324 yes, but tesla did build system that works with the car much better than others have, thats why i count that as a part of the car, other charging network systems are controlled too many keepers, thats why they cant make it work as steady as teslas, it is hard others to be included to the navigation system so informative that you know were can you charge, is it free or is it out of usage and how fast, only then charging network is great and you can rely that information what you get from navigation, but now it is useless messy structure that only makes ev life harder not easier, because they dont work as one. ( every ev car maker should at start join on one system … maybe even to the teslas network.. at the begining, now it is too late ) , i hope i make sense. P.s i dont have ev yet as its too expencive to me and i dont have place at home were to charge but i do like to see were its heading….

Tesla built their own proprietary system that is true and it works. The other auto manufacturers who make EVS did not build their own charging Network it is handled by third parties. This is why other EVS are cheaper than Tesla's because they are not paying for the infrastructure it is a separate company. So when you buy a Tesla you're not only buying a Tesla you're also helping pay for more superchargers. One of the reasons why Tesla's are more expensive.

Very Long time? How long? I keep Toyota Prius for 17 years. Yes battery had to be replaced in 10 years due to rear hatch hinge defect and water from rain reaching the battery thus causing 2 cell to go bad causing current circuit shortcut. Granted that battery in Prius is Nickel metal much more robust than Lithium ones. However with liquid thermomanagement and not charging more than 80% regularly and when discharged not kept lower than 20% more than a couple of hours those Lithium’s batteries could hold at least 75% of initial capacity in 15 years if mostly charged using AC current at home and occasionally DC fast charged on long trips.
