I use an external antenna on my iX12, or I use my crossfire TX RX for long-range flying. I never had any issues with it, and I have had it since it was first released. It still works flawlessly. I love my iX12!

Magnetic Cable implies that you plug in a small dongle to the USB port (sits flush) and the cable simply magnetizes to the dongle to recharge the radio (no physical plug in to the USB socket every time you charge). I have one of those cables on my IX12 and its truly fabulous; looks like they are simply including it now as part of the base product. FWIW, my IX 12 has been flawless (no random lockups, etc) so it sounds like you may have too many (non spektrum) apps enabled on the Android system that require regular Android/Google Play store updates... FWIW, I will be upgrading to the IX 14 but will keep my IX12 as backup and for my son to use.

Hi Eric, my point about the magnetic charger is about cost. If this costs more than a regular cable, I'm not really interested in the features. I have no issues with a normal cable. No one will be tripping over my cord. I don't have any additional apps installed. Factory bloatware only.

@@RCexplained misunderstood, sorry, thought you were thinking of a different thing. Valid point for sure… I do like mine though simply with regards to the wear and tear on the USB socket. Also agreed on the bloatware… I did go in and turn off auto updates on most Android items, that may have helped my situation…

I'm just going to stick with my NX10SE. I didn't know the ix14 was coming out, and just purchased mine. But, I'd rather not deal with the android tx until it's as fast and reliable as my android phone. Lol. But still a nice tx. I'll probably get it if they make an IX14SE with aluminum hall effect gimbals. Love the channel, keep up the great work!

Meh... I will just keep using my IX12 as I have had very few issues with it... mostly due to a bad pot on one of the sliders. And yes the IX12 uses standard potentiometers. That is one area that the IX14 and the IX20 is a major upgrade over the IX12. Honestly if I had to buy another radio I would probably go with a FRsky, radiomaster 16 series, or something similar. Maybe even a Mikado Vbar since I primarily fly helis.

No patch is possible. It was a POS from day 1, I returned mine after 12 months(got it on day of release) for full credit as I could not tolerate it any more. Nevermind the 'promise' of updates monthly on their HH launch video. Never happened. It was slow, buggy and generally a good idea - not well executed.

I had the IX12, it was never to slow for me but it was slow if you forgot to switch models and wanted to go fly right now. My NX10 boots up and is ready to fly in 4 secs, very hard to beat that. I really would love the new IX14 but not sure if i will end up with it. Only if i can end up paying over time for it . otherwise I have considered getting another IX12 I u\just mostly miss the Text to speech from the IX12. ThE IX20 has always looked physically to big for my hands.

I also have no issues with my IX12. I'm wondering, if your very slow boot times is because you have your phone and radio on the same google account? If you have a lot of apps on your phone and the radio, they may be syncing and updating through your Google account. I would open a new google account only for the radio and see if that resolves the issue. I have no extra apps on my transmitter, only what it came with. For me, and lots of other flyers do we really need more channels? The slightly faster boot time is not a big issue. I turn my radio on once a day at the flying field, before I assemble my aircraft, then put it in sleep mode between flights. It boots up fast from sleep mode and is ready to go. Changing between models does take too long in my opinion, but I can live with that, I'm usually checking the next model over anyway. The larger battery is on my want list. It will be a lot cheaper than getting a new IX14, that's for sure. Love the feel and the locked in signal strength of the Spectrum, and their customer service is second to none. I find my Radiomaster TX16S with Edge TX to be amazing value, with incredible flexibility. The Radiomaster will also run all my Spectrum receivers if I ever need a backup, but I don't expect to happen as my IX12 has been super reliable. With flexibility and features comes a longer learning curve with both the IX series and the Radiomaster. Some people need the latest and greatest. To each his own. This is after all only a hobby for the majority of us. I think this is an incremental improvement over the IX12, not a game changer. When the IX12 came out it was somewhat of a gamechanger and required us to think differently from the way we were used to interacting with say a DX9. I'm sticking with my 12.

I am not getting the IX14. Way too much money for me. I saved up for a year to get the IX12 Because it had crossfire capability. For the little bit more that the IX14 gives you too much of a big investment for that little bit. Spectrum does not have very very many 12 channel receivers. Is spectrum should make a receivers that is crossfire capable

Im not a huge fan of the ix direction that Spektrum has taken. The ix 12 was a joke. Now people are supposed to fork out even more money to buy the ix14. Although, the ix14 was a significant improvement over the ix12, I still think it's shockingly slow. My DX9 boots up in seconds. For RC models I enjoy having a system that is dedicated to flying and only flying. I don't need my transmitter to search the internet. That being said people really need to open their eyes to what else is out there. My x20s is easier to program, feels better built, costs half as much, and has 10 more channels than an ix14. However, the biggest complaint I have with Spektrum is their protocol. They rely on 2.4ghz with no backup. Which was fine when I was flying with my dx9 away from the city. However, the airwaves are getting dirtier and dirtier at an alarming rate. My dx9 is now unusable at the park I choose to fly at which is near the city. Hence the reason I went out and bought another radio. It's laughable that Spektrum doesn't address this even in their outrageously over priced ix20 series of radios. From what I can tell, the ix 14 and 20 don't offer anything more to better their link to the receiver, except maybe an extra antenna, which won't help much in a dirty environment. Jeti has duplex and frsky has tandem transmission protocols, which allows aircraft to reliably be flown in less than ideal environments. I won't be able to buy another Spektrum product until they choose to improve their protocol and make it reliable. Which is a shame because I grew up flying Spektrum and they feel very natural in my hands.
