Before locking, try thicker fluid. Most differentials in ready to run rc cars have fluid that is too thin.

That is good and all for bashing and speed runs. For racing, you need to tune your diffs for every specific track. In racing you want to unload the front more to pull you around the turns. Also in high-bite terrain locked center diff can cause you to constantly do wheelies. Other than doing speed runs people overpower their bashers and never use all that power efficiently. For jumping at skate parks and huge off-road ramp booters I do like locked center diff. You only have so much room to build speed.

What an awesome channel I've learned so much from these videos. So i have a spool center diff with a 50t (same as stock) that ive tried in my talion exb thays heavily built and i loved it but took it out cause I thought the spool would be more likely to break diff pins and cups when bashing. Is this true and also would silicon earplugs crammed in the center diff be better as it would still basically be locked but also have a dumping affect to absorb some impacts.

Using a spool can indeed increase the likelihood of breaking parts when bashing. It doesn't mean you will but if the car gets in to a high stress load situation, this is where the potential to break stuff increases. Using earplugs in the diff can serve to dampen some of this load and may be a good balance between using a spool vs a differential. It's impossible to know if your driving style could subject components on your vehicle to breakage.

Thanks for the info. All of the TRX4 that i have, have transmitter diff lock control. The old and new Bronco and the Defender. Not sure about the Sports or High Trail version.

4x4 off road crawlers are different animals than a basher…ya want all the wheels locked for better traction and unlock diffs for tighter turns..(if applicable) Bashers benefit from a locked center diff but unlocked drive axles for better turning .. Air control is benefitted with locked center diff also.

TRX4 Sport does not have the ability to switch. Always locked. Likes to flip over if you go too fast on a turn :)

I ended up buying the scorched lockers and havent had any issues yet that i know of. I kept my old diffs just incase i want to go with 20mil of ear plugs to try out. I noticed no more ballooning and my tires were lasting longer

I increased the thickness of the oil especially the front butI was thinking, to try out the exb diffs because they are stronger but unfortunately the ratio is a bit low and I do not like to make the center prop shafts spin very fast!

I ve broken the plastic diff cup screws . They shear off if they become loose so it’s good to check and shim like everyone says . Luckily not the Kraton 6s yet but a hbx 16980sa thst gets a 3s battery and is too much power imo for the little guy

Kindly, what do you think regarding drag racing with a 4wd car like a Limitless with a diff lock instead of the center diff and some prefer to use 2 or 4 million in the front diff and 2 or 1 million oil in the rear. Others lock the front and others lock both diffs. Drag cars are only used in straight line so one would like to try and take an advantage because although the car would be perfectly balanced it sometimes pulls to one side from the start line on full throttle! So they to prefer to have diffs locked so the power would not go to one side or spinning the other wheels with less load!

The limitless doesn't have a center diff. As for front and rear, it's a personal preference. I'm not super comfortable with the both rear tires locked together but you may need this to extract maximum acceleration.

you could buy two or three differentials, prepare each with different oil, maybe one with 100k, other with 200k and a last one with 500k and then compare results. There are also 1M and 2M, or also ear plugs

Performance is not all, when you have a technical track, you need adjusted oils in differentials according to. Nobody wants drifting tank on the track. Im ridding the Serpent SRX8e-Pro. Also on bash i put lighter oils into the Sledge.

Interesting, I race a TLR tuned typhon and put ear plugs in my center diff. Then again my local track dirt is way different then any track I've seen in videos. Very dusty loose material unless heavily watered. I can't keep on the track running pin tires, I have to run off road tires like badlands to consistently get around this track.

@furyianman5157 what are you talking about? Locking your center diff in a buggy would only make sense if you use said vehicle for a complete unusual application. But for bashing around or running on a track it is indeed the worst thing you can do. 🤦‍♂️
