This is the third time I've seen scotty work on BMW coils. It's also the third time I've seen Scotty not remove the cabin air filter assembly. They have only 6 bolts and the rest are clips. Honestly, replacing spark plugs on a BMW I6 engine is one of the easiest spark plug jobs I've ever done. Removing the cabin air filter assembly takes all of five minutes and gives you access to the entire top engine. You may need the spark plug socket as a standard slim deep 14mm socket does not work in some of the engines. For instance, on a 2007 Infinity G35 engine, you have to remove the intake plenum and all connected prerequsites.

@Joe Joseph Bmw new 4 cylinder engines are the ones with problems the 6 cylinder ones are better. Of course a 90hp toyota that has the same amount of work room than a 240 volvo in the bay and doesn´t even have electric windows is simplier to repair but then you can just compare it to the bmw m10 engine thats just way better than anyother, it is sad that these days the engines are made the way that you have to take them to us mechanics just to get them fixed eventho the fix should be easy but they just make em hard. These days the mechanics are also useless if you cant plug the car into a computer too...

You have to separate the engine from the trans then remove the housing adapter to gain access to the chains. Ford done something similar with a run of their engines too. But it's a bit of an inconvenience when it's time for that portion of service to be done. I do like the fact that you can change the turbo in 30 minutes ( per video from DDE and Sheepey Race).

I don't understand why dealers rip ppl off, they're just more likely to lose customers and reputation that way. But I guess if ppl did their own maintenance there wouldn't need to be any need for mechanics. Still, I think people are pressured to learn how to do things themselves when they are suggested outrageous prices for things that don't need replacing.

If my car starts running funny and throws me a check engine light, I'd use my own scan tool and do exactly what he did. A cheap scan tool should be able to read the misfire code. You don't need some crazy expensive dealer level one for this. And BMWs are not actually that hard to work on. You have to waste time getting all the plastic crap off, and you may need a few special tools. But that doesn't make it hard. Just a bit more time consuming and expensive. Thomas Estwick BMW costs twice as much because you get twice as much. Sure, it’s probably not as reliable long-term, but it’s sure as hell twice as safe and twice as nice. The reason it depreciates is because of the quality of the parts. The older the car, the more likely it is to break down. This is also a reason you should lease luxury cars like these instead of purchasing one.

I've also had my hands in production and modding semis for major carriers and auto-haulers. I've got more than 25k semis under me (DOT and R&D included). But back to topic the only BMWs I've come across that I'm not a fan of how they done part placement is the 750LIX oil cooler line ( routed between the front rail and subframe). Also the placement of turbos on the 335. But it is what it is.. If you can't service it send it to someone who can legitimately service it.
