This brings back fond memories of my dad's Mercury Cougars, Oldsmobile Station-Wagons, Tornado's, LTD Crown Vic's, Grand Marquis' and Parisienne's gleaming with thier wire wheels, body chrome and mag wheels..... I used to keep a calendar in my bedroom marking the days till the new beast was coming... Every 2 to 3 years the changeover would occur and I think I was giddier than my dad when the new car season came around... There was always a MASSIVE North American land yacht in our driveway... Always remember that cougar (he kept this car for alomost a decade, but still continued to buy other cars) with it's 460 hauling a horse trailer with two horses in it and blasting past a Camaro going over a mountain on the highway.. the look on buddy's face and his girlfriend's was priceless as I stuck my tongue out at them made Mickey mouse ears at them. LoL..... Then there was the Grand Marquis... that car saved my life... we were crossing through an intersection and a guy in a Two tone Beige little LTD flipped out from behind a bus that was across from us in the intersection in the left turn lane and T-boned us at highway speed (90kmph); I still remember dad at the last second matting the Mercury and the tires lighting up, had he not have gotten those few crucial feet in, the car would have hit me dead square in my door but the B-pillar and rear door took the brunt of the impact, it sure could have been a lot worse. I was in the front seat oddly enough belted in and I still remember that gross Ka-BOOM sound of the collision. The LTD literally exploded... it shoved us a bit, sprayed me with a bit of coolant, crumpled into the passenger compartment on my side a bit but I was just a kid so there was lots of room and thankfully the windows were down so there was very little glass smashed about... My dad checked me out then went full rage mode on the douche in the LTD, broke the other guys jaw LoL... The Ford dealer was about 1.5km away and my dad was able to drive the Mercury (it was realllllllly bent up) to the dealership where it was given it's last rights by the body shop foreman :( .... I still have the hood emblem from that Grand Marquis, it's like a lucky rabbits foot... You know shit's about to get real if I whip out the Marquis emblem and give it a few rubs....HaHaHa....

  • @kipamore

@Lane Yes, all 94-96 got the LT1, though in truth the earlier 5.7 was even more bulletproof, just not as powerful. I live in Ohio, and while the Park Ave would be better in snow because it's FWD, the Roadmaster fine, better than most of the older RWD drive cars. The thing about that car was; all cars have one "feature", that one thing they do well or best. Some selling point. A jeep goes off road. A Yaris gets great mileage. A truck tows a lot. A Miata handles. But the Roadmaster wagon had like 6 killer features. It seated 8 fat assed adults without excuses. Yes, 2 full sized people in the barf seat was perfectly fine. They even had cupholders. It was fast. Not drag race fast but highway fast. It would roast the tires until you got bored of the smoke. It got great milage, yes 27 on the highway which is stellar. It was ultra comfortable. Whisper quiet, you wouldn't even notice a pothole - like driving around in a living room. Great air conditioning. Great seats. Glass roof. An lastly, it towed. Nobody talks about this, but the Roadmaster towed 7000lbs! That's as much as a base F150. And it could hold 4x8 sheets of plywood INSIDE! What other car ticks all those boxes. None that I know of.

As a former owner of three 70's era Cadillac Eldorados (two 74's & a 76 conv.) He is exactly right, these cars are a beast to own! No matter what condition it's in, rule of thumb is it's gonna take $3000 to $5000 to get it where you want it to be. Funny when he mentioned fender fillers because mine broke apart as well while I drove mine to high school.

@@Kluneberg I live in Germany, and I've gone down this route before, helping my friends and colleagues in that regard. First of all, it is NOT ILLEGAL to _download by torrent or any other method_ in Germany. What is ILLEGAL is _uploading the copyrighted content._ There's a bunch of sleazoid law firms that specialise in chasing after the clueless people such as Waldorf Frommer law firm in Munich. They send out the threatening letters, demanding the payments for the infraction or else. Legally, they could only demand up to €1,075 and only once. However, their warning letters increasingly have no merit in the court system if the accused responded before the deadline (usually one week from the issurance) that he is under any circumstance _not_ obliged to pay the amount demanded. The court system usually sides with the accused due to the dynamic IP addresses used by many broadband Internet service providers. Additionally, the IP addresses could be easily spoofed as it has been proven many times before. The method used by Waldorf Frommer for monitoring and collecting is dubious and does not hold up in the court. Waldorf Frommer hopes that the threat and anxiety of impeding doom if the payment isn't made would compel the panicked accused to pay the "fine". There are the consumer protection organisations and law firms that specialise in sucker punching Waldorf Frommer and their counterparts.
