Here's How to Get 550WHP From Your BMW S55 For Less Than $1,000

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In today's video, I wanted to explain how relatively easy it is to achieve around 530-550whp on the F8X platform with the S55 engine. These cars are very fast out of the factory but with some basic bolt ons and tuning, they can be made even quicker. And the best part about it all is that it doesn't cost much to get there!

    Absolutely love your videos ever since the first days of your m235i. I appreciate that when you buy a car, you learn everything there is to learn about that specific engine via forums and all that. You did it with the N54, N55, and now the S55. Can’t wait to keep seeing these videos man. Sidenote, if ya ever need graphic design work for your own brand or videos / channel, feel free to reach out. I work for a professional gaming company for it but through my love of cars, I love to take on side projects involving them whenever I can.

    Agreed on how easily this engine makes power. Numbers, of course vary, but I've dyno'd 512WHP/562TQ on stock DP's, AA single mid-pipe and BM3 93 Stage1 tune. You can probably squeeze out a bit more on a different tune but I'm having more issues getting grip with that additional power, as is. (Running Michelin PS4's)

    @@SimplyCarThings I know you talked about the crank hub fix. I am just upset it really cost $4500 or $7600 in my case to make 550whp. It's hard to find anyone in my area to do the fix at a reasonable price, so that being said my 2016 M3 is going to stay stock to avoid headaches down the road. Foreign Affairs Motorsport in Pompano said it was $6600 total for the crank hub fix with parts. That's crazy considering that I supercharged my 2012 Mustang GT for around that much back in 2012. I would tune my M3 in a heartbeat if it really was around $1k for 550whp.

    Give it a few months. The amount of power for the taking is irresistible. But DEFINITELY do the crank hub mod FIRST - mine failed before any mods. Lucky me, since it’s my wife’s and it would’ve been hard to justify given it’s a zero hp mod and the labor is intensive. But once you’ve done that, you can walk your way all the way up to 800 whp if you want, though the larger turbo’s required cost about $5k+. No need to get ahead of yourself though. Do intakes, charge pipes, down pipes (high flow cats or catless), definitely add a midpipe (I love my equalized midpipe which cancels out the 18” difference in turbo placement before the crossover to equalize engine pulse, so it no longer sounds like two 3 cylinder motors having a shouting match. Add the JB4 and select a tune. I’m hoping to make nearly 600whp in my Competition Package once I spring for the $800 form fitted trunk mounted hidden water/methanol injection system similar to the stock GTS.

  • @forcedanonymity1791

    @forcedanonymity1791

    Oh, I forgot, with the mods I listed, you’ll either need to upgrade your top mounted I trrcoolsr (about $600 for the non-Mishimoto, less expensive version) or you’ll have to replace Tyler heat exchanger up front that faces down. I opted for the larger intercooler but I did find it a wise idea to buy an aluminum heat exchanger guard - which replaces the stock plastic one since my car is lowered and it gets shitty Houston street duty. I’ve already scraped it pretty good so I feel it’s well worth the $300-$400, especially if you go with a larger heat exchanger (which I don’t think I’ll need to at these power levels, but who knows?)

I haven’t spun my crank hub but I have had issues including 2 leaking intercoolers and a broken axle. I am the only one out of my 3 friends who hasn’t spun their crank hub. One was a stock DCT comp, one was a tuned manual e85 convertible, and one was a tuned DCT e50 comp. they say if you leave the torque low you have a better chance of not spinning. So that’s why my torque is lower than my horsepower.

    The first upgrade I would worry about if you plan on driving the snot out of an F80 or F82 is the tires. Get those 275 rears off the car and replace with the 763M or 666M wheels so you can put 285 rubber on the rear (and make sure it’s either Cup 2s, super sports, or equivalent sticky tire from another brand). Maybe even install an M Perf. spoiler. Power is fun to have but being a RWD car with all that torque, grip, not power, really is the limiting factor in a lot of performance driving situations. Now, if it’s the next gen G80 with Mxdrive then tune to your hearts content 😁.

    Hey bro, thought I'd step in and help. No, you'll be fine without upgrading the cooling if you don't track it. However, I would recommend upgrading the top mount cooler to a CSF or Wagner as it is a failure point and leaks. Also, upgrade some of the plastic bits to aluminum (Charge pipes & J-pipe) and look at an aftermarket intake for better sound and airflow. Hope this helped and was still relevant a month later.

    Hey Omar I’m a huge fan of your channel I remember watching your N54 and knowing I wanted to get into BMW’s and the N series engines. My car: I ended up with a F10 535i with the N55, I’ve been working on it done all maintenance myself and am currently BM3 Stage 2, catless FBO, the works lmao. I’m assuming since my car is a PWG I’m running about 380 to the wheel and man it feels great. I absolutely love the car it’s completely murdered out, carbon interior, I love it. This summer I’m planning to save for possibly the big boost 3.4 kit which should take me easily to 500 wheel which is basically my goal, I absolutely adore your M4 and I was so happy when I saw that you picked it up. You have ensured for me that when I’m finally ready for a new car it will be S55 powered. I absolutely love your videos and you’ve become one of my favorite KZreadrs in the car region as you are so knowledgeable, professional, and overall deliver a great and solid message. Keep it up.

    Lemon Eggs my car walks 5.0s, SRTs and scat packs too. Smoked a couple of those V8s last weekend in the top end too. If you’re trying to say a tuned q50 would beat a tuned M4 then you got it all wrong. Q50/60s are great cars and are definitely V8 slayers but they are not faster than an f80 m3 or m4. Better engines than a n55 to make power on a stage 2 tune definitely but what competes better with the vr30 is the b58.

    Something I've noticed a lot and mainly on american car channels is you guys normally say Wheel Horse Power and not BHP/HP. The graph you show at 5 mins shows max power of 503.37. Please do correct me if I am wrong but this is BHP. To get to WHP you have a loss of power due to the drive train which varies for different cars and both manual vs automatic vs awd etc.. For cars like ours there is an approx 15% loss meaning that 500HP made at the engine becomes 425 Wheel HP. Maybe I have misunderstood something? Apart from that love the videos. Funnily enough when you got your m235 i got my m240 and the same week you got your m4 i got my m2c.

    Rafael Graham-Mosmang You can only measure BHP if your engine is out of the car and is mounted directly on an engine dyno. All chassis dynos (engine still in the car) measure the power at the wheels of the car after it has all went through the flywheel, transmission, driveshaft, diff, and axles and thus gives you wheel horsepower.
