I am glad you posted this video because it supports two important facts: 1) Fit and finish is challenging, even for legacy car manufacturers. 2) The expectation for fit and finish quality is very high. I have bought 12 new cars throughout my life, including two BMWs and a Porche, and I never thought to check for panel gaps.

  • @CarsJubilee

I don't feel like I've really checked either until I bought the Ioniq 5. The 2 gaps here just really caught my eye and after that I couldn't unsee it. I understand it's hard to get a perfect car fit & finish wise but my GV60 is pretty darn close. No noticeable uneven gaps etc. And considering the base price of a gv60 is almost the same as top spec price of an ioniq 5, I thought they would be pretty close.

I have a 2022 SEL and have had the following issues (delivered in July 2022): Steering wheel creaking. Replaced the whole assembly and now the stalks wiggle. Going in for another attempt at repair this week. Rear USB ports stopped working Hatch body color panel was warped on delivery. Still awaiting a repair. Driver door seal was like yours. Replaced in January and it's good now. Rattles from the passenger door (fixed with felt tape) Rattle from the hatch (mostly fixed with felt tape)

Hey Victor, I have a 2023 limited and yeah the tailgate does rattle in rough roads. Random question: have you had any issues with the profile not changing every time? I’ve had times when it “changed” and didn’t adjust the seat and other times when it did and the presets were for the other profile. I’ve also had presets not save. I really wish they would make the profile linked to the key fob (like my Audi) instead of a push button on the entertainment screen.

    11 ай бұрын

Over the air updates do happen a few times a year but it's all pretty minor user interface changes to the center screen. It's better than nothing but it's truthfully not enhancing my ownership experience much. Dealer support has been pretty awful, 2-3 month wait for service appts so that inexperienced technicians can fumble around with my car. Living close to a good servicing dealership is pretty important if you are the type to bring it in for small issues like me. If you can ignore small issues and just want the best EV out of that group, I'd probably pick the ioniq 5. To me it looks the best, charges the quickest and has the best regen system. Though I've heard good things about the id4 seats for comfort haha

Honestly, the panel gap stuff while annoying once you see it, is pretty par for the course with more manufacturers than not. If you want immaculate panel gaps, buy Japanese made vehicles- they're the only ones who really seem to care enough about the quality of their work anymore.

Hey Victor, it looks like this is at least in part one of those things where manufactures of cars and tech bring out new products where the initial products off the line are still beta whilst they refine parts, software, manufacture and quality control. I suppose people who have gotten more recent Ioniq 5's have gotten a better product from R & D of our Beta releases. The Pixel 7 is an example of a big step up from all of the new chip and camera tech in the Pixel 6 that needed refinement. Though those are different models all together, but the time between phone releases isn't that much so it is has some similarities to interim vehicle updates. I will have to update you about a rattle I mentioned before in the passenger row, when my car goes into servicing next week. Not hopeful though to be honest. I still like the car. If I was looking for a car of the same price now, it would still probably be the Ioniq 5, if I had a bit more probably a Genesis. I think Hyundai group is the place to go. Though, I think GM and Ford are coming out with some great new vehicles which are a step up from their old offerings. I am really interested to see long term reviews of the Lyric, that looks to be very luxurious for the money.

It is interesting that manufacturers don't pick up on some obvious problems before production starts. Though Hyundai is one of the better car groups for quality/ reliability in their price range of course, as you know. I think the earliest ones other than press came perhaps Jan 2022, but few. Anything before that may have just been a few deliveries to say they are here. I got mine end of April last year. Where I live in. South Wales they were rare and a head turner. Now they are more common, though I am not sure the service staff would have done many annual services. I will have to keep you posted. I’ve owned my 2023 I5 SEL for 2 months - I love it and have had very few issues. I agree Bluelink is terrible. My two biggest complaints are the no rear windshield wiper - I never thought I would miss that as much but the rear windshield gets filthy and after two weeks or so becomes impossible to see out the back unless I clean it. The second is the range with highway driving - I’ve only had the car for winter months so I’m hoping it will improve but driving 73 mph on the highway (in eco) drains the battery more than I would have expected and I don’t feel like driving slower just b/c I own an EV. It seems like a good portion of your issues have come from having the limited trim version, which is a shame b/c it should be better. Actually your video of the cracked roof made me happy I didn’t spring for the Limited b/c that seems like it’s been a huge hassle. Anyway, love the I5 and recommend it all the time.

You're welcome! I think I would still recommend it. Looks great, drives great, most people don't seem to have many issues but for the few that do it can turn into a nightmare. So just a little bit of luck involved and making sure you don't buy it if the fit & finish is bad. The market has changed a lot since when I bought it. A year ago, with the tax credits the limited trim was a $50,000 EV which was probably the best deal around. Now things have flipped and it's one of the most expensive options compared to id4, machE, model y etc. I'm not sure that I would pick it over the competition if it costs more but it's a very solid choice still even now.

The range estimate takes a few charges to adjust to your recent driving habits so using your recent avg mi/kwh x 77.4 (usable battery size) is the more accurate way of determining your true range. I do mostly city commuting, rarely up to highway speeds.

It depends on how I've been driving for the past few charge cycles and how the weather has been. In the winter at 80% charge with just normal commuting I'm probably seeing 230 miles or so. During the summer I'd see about 300 miles at 80%. If I road tripped recently then that throws my numbers off since my normal commute is much slower than highway speeds. The timing out issue has a somewhat amateurish vibe, but apart from that, the app, functionality, reliability and responsiveness of Bluelink is pretty darn good.

Comparing to your Ioniq limited, do you think the Genesis GV60 and gv 80 are worth the significant price premium, considering the ride comfort and interior quietness?.

  • @CarsJubilee

    @CarsJubilee

    Жыл бұрын

I think the GV60 base spec vs ioniq 5 top spec is worth the price difference (only $1k or $2k I think) if you like the styling and the smaller form factor of the gv60. Then you'll definitely also appreciate the more composed ride and quieter interior. I also can appreciate the extra power, blue interior etc so to me the extra money was well worth it for the performance model. I have a hard time justifying the price tag of the electrified g80. I think it's fantastic, true luxury car ride and interior etc. But I'm just not sure it's worth $80k. It is very very quiet inside though and that ride quality is top notch. But same can be said for the ioniq 5 top spec at $57k, gv60 top spec at $69k. When they qualified for the tax credit, I think they were great value when you could save $7500. Without the tax credit, they are still great EVs but not great value anymore because other EVs have gotten cheaper or others still qualify for tax credit.

@@CarsJubilee we love our Ioniq limited, but it is too low for my 72-year-old dad to get in and out. The new GV70 electrified would be the perfect height for them, not too low and not too high. But it’s hard to justify a 15 K premium over the Ioniq.

For the right price I do think so, personally I would still go for the top trim. I wanted the ventilated seats, 360 camera etc but typically I go for top trim cars when I can. With all the incentives going on, if you can get a Limited trim for around $50k then I think it's worth it. I don't think it's a $60k car though, which is roughly the msrp for it.

Blue link software people need to be fired. Don't know if you saw the new version that came out yesterday, but it now gives energy usage stats for EVs. Problem is the numbers are all wrong. The time of drive is shown in second and the actual time is in GMT not local time. It says the distance is in miles but it sure seems to be in kilometers. But worse yet, the energy usage per mile is just plain wrong. Mine showed yesterday, after assuming km not miles that I was getting 6.9 miles per KWh when the car is showing me about 4.2 mi/KWh. Epic fail.

Obviously you couldn't sell the car without losing a ton of money... are you still going to continue to be an I5 owner or will you give them up as a bad job. (I'm an AWD - Europe - 2022 owner since march 2022 and mercifully not had one single problem with the car - (knock on wood) if I had had all the problems you seem to have had I would have thrown in the towel - and be left with an almost unsellable car, which would be a killer.
