Here's a tour of the 1981 DMC DeLorean: A Doug Demuro style review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The DMC DeLorean is a one of the most recognizable and iconic cars of all time -- despite being a massive sales flop. Here's a tour, and a review of what it's like to drive a classic 80's time machine.
Correction: 16:00 This car is not actually all that heavy, the curb weight is only just over 2,700lbs, however due to this car's generally vague steering, and under powered engine, it comes across feeling heavy.

The heater/AC switch is vacuum operated. This is the origin of the noise. The steering is hard, but in my car there is no play at all.At this time, these cars are 40 + years old, and they need a good maintenance. Great video, congratulations. Greetings from Spain.

The Delorean isn't actually all that heavy. It weighs in at about 2800 lbs, just about the same as a Scion FRZ or Subaru BRZ. It has a lot of Lotus roots with a very very similar frame to an Esprit. There are some extremely easy modifications that can change the way the car handles. The stainless panels don't weigh much at all, you can lift up the fenders with 2 fingers, the truly heavy parts to these are the doors.

@@indyventures4241 I know driving my Delorean yes they are actually not heavy but they feel heavy. I have an automatic, shifts fine most of the time. Definitely fun and different to drive.

Given that the radiator is at the front of the car you could argue that the deLorean does need a grill.

Doug DID review a DeLorean, albeit, it was modified to look like a time machine.

True, but that didn't have the correct engine in it so it doesn't really count

Nice review. I’ve had my DeLorean as my daily driver for 6 years. In that time I have gotten used to the visibility and I have very little trouble seeing what I need to see. My 2016 Camaro has far worse visibility. Also once you get used to gull-wing doors, regular doors are absolute pain. I find the handling to be quite good for a car of its era. To be fair I have had a performance exhaust and performance cams installed so I’m getting a little more horsepower out of the engine. The main reason the car was so underpowered was because the United States forced manufacturers to put catalytic converters on dropping engine performance by quite a lot. There was a twin turbo version planed before the company went under and if that version had been manufactured the DeLorean could have been a contender as a proper sports car from its era. I think of my car more like a nice GT, very nice to drive on long highways and road trips

That's something I didn't talk about enough, but I found the seating position enormously comfortable, I could absolutely road trip that car.

I hear you. 21 years and counting I've had my 83'. Luckily for us there are better intakes, exhaust and emissions that help these days. Better electrical and ECU systems too. For those who have the means and desire to, engine/EV options are out there too. I'm not about tell an adult what they can or can't do with their property.

I know that power steering can be installed on Deloreans, I have seen a few videos of it. Also, I think those who don't want to deal with the clutch can use an automatic transmission.but this vehicle is truly an icon

Would love to be on track with my Delorean vs your Mazda. I think you would be very surprised. The problem with them and why they get a bad reputation for driving dynamics is because they are 40 plus years old. After you replace the bushings and add a set of KW coilovers these things are an absolute blast to drive.

Super cool looking car, shame that it didn't have the performance to match.

It's got deceptive proportions, it's long and low! It's about a foot shorter than a honda civic if you can believe it!
