He often reserves a 10 in styling for cars that are also classicly beautiful (Aston Martin Vanquish) or simply so outlandish it's not even in the same category as anything else (Vector W8). The Countach, while possibly the collest looking car ever, does fit into a category, that being wedge shaped, and is far to aggressive and angular to be considered classically beautiful. At least, that's where I think he went with that

A friend's father had a Countach and he had a special pair of thin driving shoes for it. The only good feature of the THICCC and high door sill was that they were prefect seats for backing up. Yeah, and it's getting old - even when it's an interesting car like this one.
I didn't hear him mention they were hand built. It wasn't until recently I realized so few were made during the super long production. Lamborghini obviously sold a lot more posters and merchandise than they ever sold Countachs. Certainly are a lot better/faster/etc cars but as we were discussing earlier today on a road trip before oddly seeing this video pop up, the Countach would have to be the textbook example iconic supercar of all time.
It had the looks, performance and was not afraid to be different. They wanted it to stand out and what a classic Lamborghini built! Today you cannot tell one car from the other and it is killing the car business! On the other hand look at Lucid and Polestar, bold striking designs that offer a wow factor not seen in years! Thanks again Doug bringing out the enthusiastic emotion that once was once a driving force in America but now relegated to thr trash heap as no one wants to be different!
One of my most cherished memories is my Dad taking me to a Philadelphia car show in I think '91. Three things stood out to me that day. 1, being the Dodge Viper display. 2, the Terminator 2 display with the motorcycle and robotic terminator. 3, the Lamborghini Countach we got to see by walking up a ramp and around. This car to me, is the epitome of car aesthetics. It's gorgeous and I geek out thinking about it from time to time. The closest I'll ever get to it is on that day at the Philadelphia car show and this small "replica" Lego I bought that reminds me of how cool a car can be.

My Countach posters were never replaced, but my big 25th anniversary posterboard seemed to disappear during a move after I got married. And I also lost some photos I took of a Countach I saw at a local car show which was on display when I was 10 or so in around 91. Crazy that the two photos I took of the white 25th were possibly the first photos I ever took in my life, and it was stupid of me to have left my photo album that contained them at my Dad's place which he rented out and ditched my stuff which was stored in the shed. But the Countach memory which will be with me forever was the day that my Mum pulled up at lights on the Highway next to a white Countach and I was able to see it on the road and see it launch and speed off whilst my Mum's escort got left in the dust only for her to risk a speeding fine by speeding to catch up to it so my brother and I could look at it for as long as possible 😂 And it was this memory which saw me buy my brother the Lego Countach as a gift, because if I had the money I would buy him a real one, as how else is one to show love than to give the love they want to be given?
I can think of other ways to use a hand-held mirror in the countach... in the 80's... in Miami...

I also remember seeing this car over and over again in red on Little River turnpike and Northern Virginia during peak traffic time. The definition of stop-and-go traffic and if I remember correctly 6 miles to the gallon .
My God, that engine bay looks like it's out of the 60s. It looks so good! I was born in 1984 so this car was the ultimate dream car when I was a kid. And yes, I had a Countach poster on my wall...what kid didn't in the late 80s and early 90s?! A guy in my hometown had a white one with the wing. He drove it on nice summer days and every time I saw it I was blown away. It made my day seeing it out in the wild. I agree that it's still one of the most visually stunning cars ever made, and it always will be. It's truly a timeless design. I think younger people who weren't alive when these were new are missing out on the context of just how exotic this car was back then. In a time of incredibly milquetoast cars (even the cool ones) this thing felt like it was dropped from the future.
And detailed by one of my favorites…AmmoNYC! Nice collaboration
The best sounding horn on the industry. The sought after Italian exotic horn.
Horns were often on the end of the stalks in cars then. I learned to drive in a ford escort and it had that, so did various other cars then. First time I saw the horn on the wheel was in the 90’s
Hey Doug! Thank you for keeping time stamps in your videos, I don’t skip through the video I always watch the whole thing but the stamps help me when coming back to the video to find my way to a specific point in the video❤

but the expensive Audi has an interior that you actually want to spend time in and a pedal box that is usable. This thing looks like that, after they built the engine and the exterior, Lambo just stopped developing the car.

For real 1980s flavor, you need to have silver, blue, yellow, and pink geometric shapes (that might also look reflective) and/or squiggly lines; a blue, green, or purple/pink neon grid in the background; a low-poly silver-colored android-like thing; a few randomly placed palm trees; someone doing martial arts or perhaps a ninja; dinosaurs; laser beams, and of course, the Lamborghini Countach. Bonus points if you have both a Lamborghini Countach and a Ferrari Testarossa competing against each other in a Tron-like race. Yes, I was a kid in the 1980s and I think the Trapper Keeper warped my young impressionable mind.
Just finished up AMMONYC's detail video on this! Very beautiful car.
One of my most memorable car moments- I was driving my ‘67 Beetle down our state’s version of Rodeo Drive in roughly 2020 when I see behind me a Countach in the flesh. I was astonished, saying to my wife that I couldn’t believe that there was a Countach behind me. At a stop sign, absolutely sprinting out of the restaurant, giant camera on a tripod in tow, was a photographer screaming, “STOP, I want to photograph your car.” I started to accelerate and he jumps into the road… in front of the Beetle. He snapped several pictures and just as quickly then walked away into the restaurant again. I wanted to highlight to him- “you do realize there’s a Countach right behind me!” He didn’t care. Evidently one of 23 million can be more remarkable than one in two thousand!😊
This is one of my favourite cars ever made. The fact that Doug also mentioned the pedal position problem makes me think they're responsible for the VW/Audi pedals too
I had a chance to drive one of these many years ago, back in the early 2000s. I recently retired after working 27 years for a vintage/classic car shop. It was a large business, and did everything from oil changes to complete restorations. Mostly vintage American cars. I only worked on mechanical stuff, no bodywork or interior stuff. The owner of the business bought one of these. I believe it was a late '70s model. It was carbureted. Very much like that one on the inside. I got to drive it on highway 87, from Mesa, AZ up to Payson, AZ, 60+ miles of constant curves and mountain grades. Surprisingly it just wasn't that much fun. The visibility was so bad that you couldn't tell exactly where you were in the lane. I notice you didn't show a forward view while driving. It's a very wide car, and the windshield is almost horizontal. You can't see the lane lines close to the car. Overall it reminded me of a kit car. Nothing fit properly inside or outside. The trunk lid and engine cover flexed badly. It had a lot of squeaks and rattles. I did love the engine sound, but I love the sound of a late '60s/early '70s American muscle car better, especially Mopars. I definitely would not consider trading my 1969 Dodge Charger 440/4 speed for one, no matter how much it's worth.
Ah great to see 2 of my favorite people (Larry/Ammo) detailing to perfection, then Doug discussing and reviewing to perfection, one of my favorite cars. Both are GREAT at what they do!!
Most of the "quirks and features" were in every Italian car of the 80's. They shared parts with abandon. My 87 Mondial 3.2 had the same speaker holes, gauges, latches, turn signals etc

I love this. The most surprising feature of this car is the manual windows. I actually love that. My dad had a Mercedes that had crank windows. Very ironic.

Watching this video, looking at this car, makes me realize how much I miss the 1980s. The 1980s covered the entirety of my teenage years (I turned 10 in 1980 and 20 in 1990). It was a crazy, amazing time to be alive, especially as a teenager. *EVERYONE* who was into cars back then had at least one poster of a Lamborghini Countach on their bedroom wall!
I got to see the Lamborghini Countach from the movie "Cannonball Run" in person at an event held in Jacksonville FL in 1987. Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion company owned the car. It sounded and looked badass! I still think it looks so futuristic!
Doug, I think you just made one of the coolest and most exciting videos of my favorite car of all time • Your passion as you drive it was epic, you sold it in Cars and Bids like no one else could - This car and Heather Thomas were my bedroom companions throughout my youth and somehow shaped who I am today - Truly unforgettable times - Owning this car most be a dream come true - Thanks for sharing this gem of a video - One of my favorite of yours - WELL DONE!!!!
What a time to be alive for the great Uncle Doug to review 2 cars back to back that were hanging on my bedroom walls back in the day: the 328 and the Countash. Thank you, sir! Keep these informative videos coming!

Agree, to me , the Countach is THE Iconic supercar, we all drooled over the posters of it in the 70s - rarely see reviews on the original low body orange ones without the wide arches from 74-76-ish , or even them mentioned, you`d be surprised at how many younger people think it`s a "80s car" , it`s not , it`s a 70s car which was so timeless in styling that it didn`t look dated by the 80s and IMO still doesn`t now . I`m amazed Doug fit in it Tyler Hoovie whO i thought was a bit shorter than Doug) has to drive it with his head on his shoulder
Pure 80's styling. Awesome.
Anyone else have the G1 Transformer Sunstreaker? Yellow Countach. One of my fav toys growing up. This video reminded me of that all the way through.

Finally a Countach review that is not in the rain.
One of the first things that people encounter with the Countach is how low it is. My high school best friend had one of these in the late 80's. When you see one first back then and a person in front; you realized how low they were.
Doug, amazing video as always. Ever though about getting a pair of purpose-made driving shoes for cars like these?
I can't deny how iconic the Countach with the giant wing is, but I always preferred the LP400. It still looked striking and had that 'wow' factor but I think it had a simple elegance that was lost when they started adding on new bits everywhere to make it look more and more ridiculous. Also, 14:10 General Kenobi!

A lot of reviewers of later Countaches would mention how they missed the clean lines of the original 1974 version, so you're far from alone. Supposedly, the wing actually cut top speed a little, although it added high-speed stability (and, for a lot of people, upped the cool factor). On the other hand, foregoing the wing probably meant you could always close the engine cover, even with the trunklid up!
