Here is why I'm still broke at $300k/year - Detailed paycheck breakdown on how much net pay I get

Here is why I'm still suffering at $300k/year - Detailed paycheck breakdown on how much net pay I get each month !
I get a lot of questions on why I'm still suffering in the U.S. with $300k/year - I made this video to answer that question !
If you have not already - make sure to check out my video on `how much I'm making a year at age of 30` to get more context on where this entire convo came from in the first place !
At a high level my short answer to this is all the deductions/taxes that are being taken out of my paycheck is eating me alive !!
Overall I take about 40% home only - so $300k REALLY is only $120k net pay which is about $10k/month.
And I have daycare costs ($4500) + rent ($3000) which is already $7500 !! not to mention expenses on grocery/cars/commutes, etc
LIFE IS TOUGH here !!
Did I answer your question ? I will make another video on my monthly expenses so make sure to subscribe to my channel if you want to hear more on this topic !

First thing I'm noticing is that your gross for this last pay period only adds up to $200,000 a year. Is this a commission based job where your pay varies from pay period to pay period? But then you explained it. Thank you. Here are my thoughts 1) You're in the Bay area, that is a very expensive area to live in. Those daycare rates are very expensive, but that won't last forever. 2) I see you're contributing to your retirement account, that's awesome, even a small percentage of $300,000 will add up quickly. 3) Are you taking into account the fact that you should get a tax rebate based on the money you pay for childcare? Thank you for sharing, and being so honest about everything. It's nice to hear unvarnished perspectives.

It's not broke if you are contributing high dollar amounts to 401K/retirement, which seems to be the case. The childcare expense is temporary and a choice given that the husband is building a small business. My guess is that it is a startup, so functionally the childcare expense is an investment. If dad stays home with the kids, the household disposable income would increase by $50,000/yr. Honestly, it increases by a bit more because it is easier to be frugal when you have a stay at home parent.

So shes actually netting 65% not the 40% stated in the video. 10788 a month on 200k salary minus the 7500 rent and childcare nets 3288 a month. Fine, go ahead spend all of that and save the rest, which is the bonus and RSUs 6k bonus and 40k RSU call it 50k, (vs the 100k vakue on signing of the contract). Net on that is, call it 24k. Which is 2k a month and a decent 9.6% savings rate on a 250k total compensation. Plus 401k.

Using the bad behavior of others of justify your own bad actions doesn't make what you did any less bad. It makes it far worse. The average person is doing absolutely abismally so doing "better than them" doesn't mean you're doing good. Stop making excuses and using dumbass mantras to make yourself feel better about your bad choices and fix the situation. Raising the type of children that will spawn from this are not a net benefit to society either... Blowing smoke up someone's ass and avoiding the reality of their situation does nothing to help them.

If I were in your shoes I’d cut the daycare and have your husband take care of the kids until you’re done working. Then if he can work afterwards and make around $2000 a month either in Uber or a warehouse job I also think you should either live somewhere in the bay that’s cheaper (I’m from the bay) there’s plenty of places in the east bay that are around 2300-2500. Same with Daly City I also think if you do stay in SF you should get rid of both cars and muni/Bart to work. You do those 4 things you save a good 85k annually probably more.

And your hubby can manage the property(s) and the FBA in his spare time while helping to raise the kids!!!!!!!!!!!!! So that does make sense. Though the pet insurance is silly. I am wondering if there's a way to reduce the retirement savings. If the company is matching a large % of it, then it might be worth continuing to do 12%. At least be maxing out whatever the company is matching. It does sound like a little mismanagement of money though. People see a 300k income and spend it all. Unless the husband were to closed down his small business and take care of the kids, or find a job somewhere else. That leaves her with $2,500 a month to spend on everything. Who knows if she has a car payment, groceries for 4 etc,.

Cut the childcare. It sounds like your husband needs to put his business plans on hold until your youngest is in first grade. That will free up a ton of money. Otherwise, it'll be very hard for your family to build wealth.

Blew my mind when she said she spend 2000 on day care and 2500 on preschool. Thats 4500 a month. No shame at being q stay home dad. I did it for couple years to save money on child care. After 10yrs old kids dont want to spend time with their parents. Enjoy the time with your kids. You will never get those years back.

I don't understand this at all - you earn $300K but only receive $120K - so you give away the difference in something called Tax. What is all this Tax for and why do you give it all away ? It makes no sense. I have lived and worked in Dubai for the last30 years and I have never paid a single $ in Tax. No one here has to pay any Tax on their income - it might just be you are not living in the right place.

You might want to update your prices from 30 years ago. Where the hell do you think she's going to find that in the bay area? If she was willing to leave California in the first place this video wouldn't exist. She cares much more about status and image than anything else. She spends far more than the vast majority of Americans make in a month on the nicest daycares in the country for her kids... Woman is loaded. If she wasn't infected with liberalism she would already be a multimillionaire.

Socialist taxes. The more you make the higher percentage they take. Your deemed ineligible for certain savings plans (like a Roth IRA) Before Obama and Biden I could make 75k/year and cover everything. Now at over 250k and new taxes/inflation its a struggle.

@@oboe23able It's called Bidenomics, with a swift kick from Obamanomics to start. Everything is roughly 125% as much, so 250 would have been 125k. Combine that with increase in taxes, capital gains, and taxes doubling on items that have doubled and suddenly 125k is the lifestyle equivalent of around 60-65k. Example. A big mac meal has tripled in price but food tax has gone from 4.5% to 10% so double the tax on triple the item. Personal property tax, inability to deduct 2nd mortgages. The list goes on.

Chinese people are notorious for living below their means and most foreigners as a whole. But youll are different. If you are making 120k after taxes and your rent is only $3500 its no way you should be struggling. Your husband need to just let that business go for now and take care of if the kids during the week that will free up $4500. You need to get rid of that insurance on that dog. And the only health insurance you need is for your children. Chinese people almost never get sick. You teally don't need no health insurance until you are like 50 and thts a conservative age. You can always go to the free clinic if an emergency happen. But paying thousand of dollars on insurance when you are in your late 20's early 30's is crazy. I'm in my 40's and i go to the free clinic. When they ask for your W2 just tell them you will being it next time and clinic will charge you a co pay fee of like $20. You and your husband need to go through all your bills, subscription and membership and get rid of them. Youll shoulc probably sell one if your luxury cars. Youll need to teally stop eating out so much. You and your husband make enough money that you should be able to invest at least 12-20k a year between A 401k, roth ira, an hsa and index fund. If you cut expenses and invested 12-20 kin the stock market youll could easily be millionaires by 55. I make 45k a year after taxes and im investing 24k a year. I hve no debt which gives me alot of exposable income. If youll took a hard look at your expenses you vould easily free up 10k to invest every month

@@hujiastilldreamingyou were close but no cigar. My mom doesnt have a basment. But I am blessed to live rent free. I'm taking full advantage of it too. At the end of the day its not how much you make its how much money you keep and i'm keeping every dollar of my salary. My life is so simple i dont have student loans, credit card debt, no mortgage none of that so I'm investing 2/3 of my salary every year and if i can get this part time job that will be an extra 10k a year to invest. I might make way less money than you but I'm maximizing every dollar. You make 300K a year and you dont even own a house. You are married to a bum. What type of man allows his wife to be the breadwinner for his family? How does your husband have a business that doesnt even make any money? I'm pretty sure you have crazy college debt, credit card debit you said you eat out alot and by your own admissions you cant afford it. Plus you have two luxury cars youll can't afford which is a liability. Yeah, you make 300k a year but you are poor. How do I know ? You already said half of your goss salary is going to taxes, than you got 2 luxury car loans, daycare, private school, rent, etc. So when you do the math you dont have any exposable income to build wealth..again, success is based on how much money you keep after expenses. You can make a million dollars a year but if your liabilities are a million and five dollars you are poor. You mentioned you got pet insurance wtf. Chinese people view dogs as a steak. Youll eat dogs since when youll started insuring dogs. Since when has a dog been a china man's best friend?
