Always loved Hercules and Ares fights nothing was more fun to watch on this show then when Hercules sent someone flying with that legendary right especially Ares.

Kevin Smith... who tragically passed away from injuries he sustained after falling off a film set tower in China not long after these shows wrapped. He was only 38 and was booked to make his first Hollywood movie appearance along side Bruce Willis in ‘Tears of the Sun’. He certainly had the talent, looks and presence to make a good go of it in Hollywood. I payed my respects at his grave when I was in Auckland in 2018.

You will never see anything more inconsistent than Ares powers on Hercules/Xena. One episode he's bending reality to his will, another he's losing or struggling to win fist fights.

Right!? No other character, unless bestowed with powers from Zeus, should be able to take on, let alone, best Ares in a fight. There were other Olympian gods that couldn't beat him, yet Gabrielle even managed to knock him on his ass.

I think that was largely due to the wide range of genres they had throughout the series. Hercules took itself less and less seriously as the seasons went on and with Xena you never knew what you were going to get one week to the next... everything from a serious dramatic episode, to a light hearted comedy, to even musicals at times. It’s hard to keep characters consistent when the narrative is so inconsistent.

The 1st is from "tbe end of tbe begining," my fav episode. Time travel is wicked!

Ares appearing in the flesh and causing more trouble in person defined him well. Too bad Hera had to wait until Season 5 before Meg Foster arrived and embodied those eerie eyes and menacing voice!

Sean Akizuki Yes! Kevin Smiths incarnation of Ares only made appearances on Xena for quite a while before finally coming over to Hercules as well.

They did an exceptionally good job casting the Actress that played Hera, when I first saw her appear at the end of season 4 she looked exactly how I imagine her the entire time, the actors that played Zeus however they all sucked and that last Zeus from the final season 6 was a joke.

@@mysherreesmith-dixon9823 I don't know if that was it for either but I will say that Ares is my favorite evildoer on both shows. Rarely on non cable network, he appeared on both shows the same day (Seeds Of Faith then Full Circle on the last time Xena and Hercules aired together for example)

Well,he's the God Of War,right? If he knew martial arts,I don't think that it would be as absurd as it seems.It seems ridiculous because Hercules:The Legendary Journeys is set in ancient Greece but in more recent times,if Ares were depicted as being skilled in different fighting styles and an expert at hand-to-hand combat,it would actually make perfect sense.I believe both the Marvel and DC Comics versions of Ares is skilled in martial arts(along with many other fighting styles).

Hercules took on Ares as a God in the season 4 final “Reunions”. A section of their godly fight can be seen between 1:24 and 1:50 of this video.

Ares is actually forbidden by Zeus to kill Hercules. Beat him up, OK (but that isn't so easy since Herc has the strength of an Olympian) but not kill him.

Bearded Amon Yes it’s not on any of the OST’s... I’ve checked a few times. I was able to piece the music together by grabbing the clearest bits from all the Hercules and Ares fight scenes and combining them as one WAV but because there are soo many sound effects during their fights this was the clearest I could get it with what I had to work with.

Yes for me too, I loved both HLJ and DBZ (still do). What was annoying about both shows though was the amount of great music tracks from them that was never officially released on soundtrack

Athena was horribly underused on both Hercules and Xena. When she finally did get a substantial role, it was as a villain. It kind of sucked, as Athena was one of the Olympians who was always portrayed as more human friendly than the other gods and goddesses, and within the context of the shows her wisdom aspect was majorly played up and her warlike aspect played down. It just seemed to come out of left field having her as a villain, and not a very smart one at that.

Calling Ares a villain is misleading. Yeah sure he sowed chaos and strife as the god of war but his antics are so laughable cause he goes about them like a member of Team Rocket (these grandiose endeavors that he thinks will never fail only for him to fluff in the end and make himself look like an idiot). Also when he faces entities stronger than he is (i.e., Archangel Michael), he's made to look like a bumbling idiot. Hell, if the Horseman of War wasn't so silent and stoic, he'd have been laughing at him in the episode.
