VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Join Tia as she welcomes you into her thoughtfully designed tiny home, which she has customized for practicality, functionality, and aesthetic beauty. Tia's home, crafted by Indigo River Tiny Homes, reflects her preference for a contrasting milk wash and dark oak color scheme, complemented by a green-blue palette for doors and cabinets. She highlights the advantages of her living space which, despite its compact size, cleverly includes three bedrooms configured for different purposes-one as her office, another as a guest room, and a third as her main bedroom.
Within her 364-square-foot space, Tia demonstrates the functionality of her kitchen, featuring an induction cooktop ideal for her solar setup, a full oven, a retro-style refrigerator, and a deep farmhouse sink with a three-filter water system. Her living area doubles as a dining room with pop-up bars for flexible use of space, enhancing movement and interaction within the home.
The video tour showcases the innovative storage solutions throughout her tiny house, including toe-kick drawers in the kitchen for cutting boards, clever use of space with baskets under the dining booth for extra storage, and a multi-purpose area that serves as her workspace and dining area.
Tia's tiny house is not only a residence but a reflection of her journey toward conscious consumerism and minimalism, influenced by her upbringing and insights into global manufacturing practices. This lifestyle choice aligns with her values and her work as the executive director of Rebuilding Together North Texas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing critical home repairs for low-income homeowners.
As she guides you through each room, Tia explains the thoughtful considerations behind each design choice-from the sliding privacy wall in the main bedroom to maximize airflow and space, to the energy-efficient mini-split system that works seamlessly with her solar panels to heat and cool her home effectively.
Living in Namaste Hideaway, a tiny living community, Tia enjoys a sense of community and shared values among neighbors, enhancing her living experience in her tiny home. This video not only explores the unique features of her tiny house but also reflects on the lifestyle that allows her to live big in a small, personalized space.

The extra length of the house (most tiny homes run between 24-30 ft max), came at a premium, as well as the full solar hookup. Those two line items alone probably bumped up the cost by about 40k.

I see she didn't respond but....Just like anything you really need....it took time and consistency to teach my 2 cats to NOT jump up on stove...I have a glass top that takes quite awhile to cool down. It helped (besides saying, "No"!) to put baking sheets on my kitchen counters and stove top. The loud noise when the baking sheets were disturbed startled the cats. They didn't like the loud noise. Don't remember how long it took but it was fairly easy using this method. Actually less verbal correction was needed.

She mentioned that it's an induction cooktop so it doesn't produce heat. It creates an electomagnetic field that interacts with the metal pan that is in contact with it to turn the pan into the cooker. You could remove a pot of boiling water and immediately touch the cooktop and you won't get burned.

Lovely home! At the very end, when you were sharing the types of people that get help with taking care of homes they own, I heard teachers mentioned. I breaks my heart that mostly young women, who pay to go to college, end up working a job that doesn't pay a living wage. My daughter is really struggling as a single parent. If she didn't have loving parents helping her, I don't know what she would do!

Yes, lots of jobs like that these days, and it won't change until the people in those jobs make the change. Here, a teacher can make $80K, though not right away, and that's not much to live on in Canada! The bigger issue (here) is too many teachers, w. new grads spending 3-5 yrs as a sub until they get a F/T gig. You have to be living w. a partner or your folks to make it work. But? I'd research this before starting school - it's no good finding-out important things only after graduating!

I think $170,000 is a reasonable price for the amenities that she has. Her home is a custom build. With housing prices as they are today, I would love to know how much a build like hers would cost if self built. For those shocked by the cost, I recommend you research the cost of supplies, labor, tradespersons, and plans. Further, research how much the cost of building a 900 square foot (average minimum allowable house size) with the customization and amenities she has. Please list which builders will build a house that small and which bank will finance it. Also, where you live. Thanks.

It’s a nice home, I like it. But I do have to say, a single woman, living alone with a couple of pets, this home can hardly be considered minimalism, like at all. She has more than most. But that’s ok, you don’t have to be a minimalist to live in a tiny home.
