Hentzia palmarum - Big Fanged Male Jumping Spider

Фильм және анимация

Rescued this big guy from the hood of the car this morning. Super active out in the open, but after curling a leaf for him to escape into - he eventually calmed down and started grooming. Gently peeling the leaf back a bit I could shoot the messy focus-stacked portrait at the end.

    Stunning photography and filming. I am a big fan of macro images and I have always enjoyed photography with macro insect shots some of the most satisfying. Spiders are cool creatures and the vast array of colours, sizes and shapes are so interesting. Thank you for sharing this.

    I always marvel at your shots of spiders. How do you even get a shot in focus when they are moving so much - and with good depth of field too.

  • @terser

    @terser

    Thanks! Yeah, I can't stack if they're moving. I usually choose an aperture open enough to avoid diffraction - yet still allows a readable amount of focus. My "field stacks" are usually no more than 5 shots or so. I'll post a video about my technique at some point!

    So I live in Texas and I get to see many types of spiders even have a few scary looking ones in my house but she did what my dog or cat could not catch a moth I uhh upset her the other day trying to help her wrap up the moth and she hasn't come down from her corner in a couple of days I felt great shame and guilt I think we connected like she knew I was trying to help but got frustrated with my constant tampering with her method. Felt bad but I guess the most common spider I see can get big to they are riding spiders or better known as a wolf spider do to it's redish brown fuzzy color they do a few things to ward off predators they stand up waving their legs like they will punch you and even lunge but if that doesn't work they pounce at you which can be scary but they never really bite at least I've never been bitten and I had a few jump onto my face oh man it felt weird they have a similar pressure like a taranchula even though their smaller I am more of a frog,toad and reptile guy myself but I think one of the coolest animals I shared part of my life with was an emperor scorpion idk if it was just our bond or what but she was so smart and had a spunky aditude I knew when she was upset about something or if I annoyed her but she would escape her terarium to get closer to me in my sleep it was a little scary waking up feeling a large black exoskeleton on my face and hair I'm more afraid of hurting her at the time but she liked my body heat and to my perspective cuddle I have a strong belief that no human on Earth is an expert on handling any animals or those that specializes in a particular animal we are great at reading patterns but we only have experiance with particular groups ones hand raised or earnd the trust of but I usto do tricks with Roxy(my emperor scorpion) she learned to hold on to my nose with her Pinchers without applying much pressure I loved freaking my friends out like having her spring from my arm to my shoulder I was really young when I had her and she said her goodbyes few days before my 16th birthday it was kinda a sad week I knew she was on her way out and so I let her live out of her cage and free all week it's been 10 years to date never got another scorpion idk Roxy was special to me idk if I'll find an animal with the kind of will power and personality as Roxy
