I have to said that most Sarawakian who ended up settle down at westerns started to forget their own root and might as well didn't passed their origin to their children. I met a fews. And I also met Sarawakian who staying in west Malaysia doesn't admit them from Sarawak or doesn't like to talk about their ethnics. I was quite shocked when I met Sarawakian who stated that he/she is Kuala Lumpur people and when I told them I am Biadayuh from Sarawak then they will be like shocked. But still consider themselves as KL people just because they been staying there for more than 5 years. I also have ex colleague that only knew he was a Iban from Sarawak when he was 12. Because his family never talk in their native, never talk about hometown at Sarawak and doesn't even know anything about his origin. That when he was 12,his father who were in army transferred to Sarawak and they started to move here. And only come to know after that. He was having a tough time because he feel like a stranger because he always thought that he's from Malacca. So, to say that I am very proud of Henry and how he always talk about his tribe etc. I wish he could produce a great movie with Sarawakian element to Hollywood. Because there is a lot potential histroy and places in Sarawak or Borneo that can be turned into a good movies.

I'm Iban been staying here in Peninsular for 16 years, never once I told anyone that I'm not Sarawakian. It's more to "They wouldn't notice that I'm Iban/Sarawakian if I didn't tell them" and they're shocked 🤣 I speak Malay with no accent unlike some still got that native tounge sound so they can never tell if I'm Sarawakian or Iban.

No, there are many British with dark hair and eyes. At our most exotic we look a bit Jewish, Turkish or Southern European. The thing with mix race.. is that you tend to identify yourself as you see fit.. and enjoy the advantage of it.. like when in Europe he’ll say I’m British... In Malaysia... I’m Malay... and so on.. it gives him many benefits with little to no consequence... (in ancient times they frown upon mixed breeds) The only downside I can think of in this generation is that you don’t have a sense of belonging in your family history... and there is no heritage... I’m a peranakan and I’m a mixed raced myself.. People will say I’m chinese but I was born with dark skin.. I try not to play the race card too much.. and it’s hard for me to find a sense of belonging with any particular race in my roots.. as it’s all mixed

Its quite bit sad no one know very much about iban in this world. When i married to german husband it took time for him that he need to understand what is meaning iban. He mistakenly thought at first that i am malay girl until he go with me to celebrate harvest celebration at my grandma long house. He finally understand that iban is the most unique culture.Yes he love iban so much😂 And i am proud of it. Love from all the way from Germany🇩🇪

He did very well in his career as an iban actor internationally. He is also one of the chosen candidate for the role of the new James Bond replacing Daniel Craig. We pray he can get it. Love his travel documentary... love his handsomeness.. sometimes i wish im livlo hahaha btw hope both of them happy ever after
I have to said that most Sarawakian who ended up settle down at westerns started to forget their own root and might as well didn't passed their origin to their children. Because there is a lot potential histroy and places in Sarawak or Borneo that can be turned into a good movies.

it is kinda sad really, we all have been working hard to carry our culture forward to the newer generations before it perishes like the old and bygone civilisations. i know an iban mix malay friend as well, when he was in sarawak, he understood the iban language, as a kid him and his family moved to west malaysia and he remains there till today. despite being half iban, he now doesnt know even a word of iban anymore.

There’s power to being mixed race, don’t be ashamed of it. Your ancestors were opened minded and you should be too.
Is Catherine Zeta-Jones, also have Asian ancestry? Coz she doesn’t look totally Caucasian, with black eyes and hair, yet she’s British. Just knew many Malaysians migrated to UK. I think she’s got Malaysian blood. Her eyes reveal it.

No, there are many British with dark hair and eyes. At our most exotic we look a bit Jewish, Turkish or Southern European. Almost all of us are pale though, some of us can tan very well in the summer like my younger bro (well I've seen a very few people with a natural light olive tone) but some of us have features that might be considered 'exotic' for Western Europe. ☺

@Probanot
4 жыл бұрын
Since you mentioned you are peranakkan, were you raised in Malay customs and malay as your native language?
