As a Licensed Vet Tech that worked critical care/ emergency at a university vet school for 15 years, I can absolutely say that The Kitten Lady knows her stuff! If you are a rescuer or just want more info on kitten health, she's the one to listen to! 👍 Thank you so much for putting these videos out for the public, you truly are a rescue kitten advocate. I will continue to tell everyone I know (laypeople and professional) about your videos. Love from Michigan! 💜🐱💜

My 2 year old cat recently had pneumonia. I thought she was going to die. I got her on antibiotics, gave her lysine every day, and set up a show cage with a vaporizer which ran continuously. There was room for her to move closer or away from it, and I left a flap open for her to get in and out. She spent most of a week in there. She would come out for awhile and then go back in whenever she had trouble breathing. She essentially managed her own respiratory care, which I thought was kinda cool.

Love this and hope she is doing much better. I had a similar situation with a terminally ill cat. I basically became her personal 24/7 hospice nurse the last 3 months of her life. She went from never having to take anything or any health issues to 3 medications twice a day and a list of other things/supplements to keep up with. I SWEAR she knew what and why I did all I did. She was a champ through it all and never fought me through any of it. They know when they are good hands :)

Seriously do what she says; my family cat Wynston died of pneumonia when I was about 10 and it destroyed us. He managed to sneak outside between my mom's legs the day a huge snow storm hit. We looked for him for two weeks before we found him snowed in our shed. He would sneeze and his whole body would react, having nasal discharge and everything. We took him to the vet the same day and he got multiple shots and an IV. It helped but he never stopped sneezing. Eventually a year later his symptoms came back, we took him to the vet and it didn't help that time... We lost him about a week later. Now that I rescue and foster kittens, it's one thing I look for and do everything I can to prevent. It's horrible

We found a kitten a few days old. Its mother abandoned it. She moved her nest about 10ft away and wouldn't go near the kitten. So we brought him inside. We cleaned him and took him to the vet. He was estimated to be a few weeks old. We had to bottle feed him every few hours every day for a few weeks. He started developing quick and was extremely energetic, intelligent and playful. This past Sunday we noticed at night he didnt want to do much but sleep, the next morning he was back to his normal self. Later that night same thing all he wanted to do was sleep in the later evening hours. During the day he was eating and playing. He had 0 symptoms of a cold or anything else. On the next morning we took him to the vet because he did not want to move. The vet said he had pneumonia and a collapsed lung. He died a few hours later. The vet said he never saw pneumonia set in so quickly and believed there was a health issue at birth. Possibly 1 lung never developed. It made me wonder if the mom knew something was wrong and that's why she left him. I try to find peace in knowing I gave home 3 more months of life.

Good thing I was already in the hospital. Of course, having the surgery made me more prone to getting the disease, but I really needed the surgery to survive.

Stray cats with ANY severe illness, including pneumonia, usually hide and try to "sleep it off". You won't be able to find them. If you TNR, the vet visit will check for all kinds of issues, including illness. Otherwise, you generally will NOT be able to provide medical care for stray cats.

I rescued a kitten once with pneumonia. Our vet gave us some medicine and the poor baby was so bad we were told he needed to stay in the hospital for oxygen treatments but that wouldve been too expensive for my family. So our vet told us where to get an oxygen tank and gave us a prescription for it as well as the medicine he needed. We had a little baby mask for him and a tub that was hooked up to the oxygen tank and ofc was never completely closed in. We followed the vets directions and our little cobalt got much better and healthier. I'm not sure how he got pneumonia, he was a small stray with terrible conjunctivitis and respiratory problems as well as a few other problems when we found him. We nursed him back to health in no time though!

My current foster was given to me at 6 days old, with fluid in her lungs. It only took me a few minutes of holding her to recognize that bubbling sound when she breathed. I went straight from the animal charity to my vet and my worst fear was confirmed: fluid in her lungs. The prognosis was honestly pretty bleak, but she was immediately put on antibiotics to prevent pneumonia, which was my main concern. After that I spent essentially the next 5 days with her almost 24/7 and kept a very close eye on her for even the tiniest of changes. After day 5, I took her back to my vet and her lungs were given the all clear. My vet was almost as surprised as I was. Her appetite never once waned through all of this, she's one of the toughest little spuds I've ever fostered and I love her to bits. She's almost ready to go to her new home at 11 weeks and should be leaving here in a week or so. I will miss her so much but I am so happy she made it and is thriving. Pneumonia is so dangerous, especially in little kittens. Prevent it if at all possible. Thank you for the video, Hannah! There are some things here I really didn't know and it's good to know them going forward. :) Jumbo Slice is an adorable little guy, as well. So plucky!

This is all such wonderful information. This will undoubtedly save a life! I wish I had known about Kitten Lady when I rescued my first kitten four years ago. The very first kitten I rescued was so, so sick- he was a seven week old ginger boy named Pocket. He had a horrific upper respiratory. And when I picked him up from the rescue, they handed me human pill bottles, the label had been peeled mostly off, but I could still read the first name. It was the woman who ran the rescues name. She told me it was a “critical care food additive” that had been prescribed by their vet of preference -a name they wouldn’t give me- and all I had to do was “squirt a syringe full over his hard food” but as it turns out, they had been stretching medications, adding them all together and making an antibiotic soup to save on veterinary care. I took him to my vet immediately. I was prescribed Vetropolycin for his eyes, and I was sent to a specialist pharmacy about an hour from where I live, which had to hand mix a medication that had been cultured specially for him. I ordered a nebulizer, but while I waited for that to come, I would take him in the bathroom, turn the shower on the hottest it could possibly get, let the steam fill the room and I would pat his chest to loosen the gunk. The vet was so appalled at the “critical care mix” and his current condition that she actually turned the rescue into the local authorities. My mom ended up adopting that sweet little baby and we renamed him Mowgli. He just turned four last month and he is the most spoiled little thing you could ever meet in your entire life. He still has underlying eye issues from that initial infection- they “run” and he gets awful eye boogies (as we lovingly call them) so he gets “groomed” which is his favorite thing, and he still lays in the bathroom when someone is getting a shower. He is kept on a very specific limited ingredient diet because we also noticed his eyes get worse when we’re less strict with his diet. It if you keep at it, there is hope- these little ones will make it. ❤️ I’m just so glad there are people like Hannah (and all of you!) in the world.

I had 4 nebulisers back to back with salbutamol in last year after a severe asthma attack. The nurses at my local walk in centre heard me struggling to breath so stuck me in a wheelchair on a nebuliser & rushed me straight into the high acuatity ward for 4hrs with 2doses of antibiotics & 6 steroid tablets.

@@GothicaBeauty Oh my goodness, I'm so glad that you pulled through such a scary, difficult disease!! When I had pneumonia, I didn't even know I had had it, just thought I was getting through a nasty bout of bronchitis, until I had one of my seizures. They also discovered that I had a minor heart attack as a result of the seizure, and I was hospitalized for around 3 days. God bless you, and keep on keepin' on!!😊😊✝️⚜️

As much as I thought I knew about rescue, I couldnt save our 3 year old kol from his pneumonia (aspirational). He died in my arms 3 days later. Antibiotics were not enough. He needed oxygen therapy and the 24 hr vet didnt tell me that. I found out after I showed our vet his papers. I have asthma. Knowing he took his last 3 breaths while struggling just kills me. Thank you for this and all your videos. I am truly grateful.

Oh, good! Thanks for the bit at the end. I was worried about Jumbo. I had pneumonia as a kid and it is not something to fool around with. I wasn’t showing much upper respiratory symptoms at all, so if I had a kitten like that who was losing weight and not doing well, it could still be pneumonia. Thank you for telling people to get kittens to the vet right away and not to shrug it off.

Thank you for this video. We adopted a kitten that ended up having pneumonia (she was too feral to be handled so the rescue had no idea how sick she was). We adopted her and gave her nebulizer treatments and antibiotics. She’s relatively healthy now, but we’re always concerned when she sneezes. Unfortunately, now our pet insurance carrier refuses to cover anything that may be related to her previous infection (anything and everything they can get away with). Luckily we can cover her medical expenses, but I fear that other pet owners may opt to let future infections to go untreated in hopes of URIs falling off their pet’s list of pre-existing conditions. It’s also become a deterrent for friends who are looking to adopt when something like a URI or pneumonia may be in the cat’s recent medical history. :( Sick kittens deserve forever homes too.
