Gosh so much stuff. It's made me realise that once we pass, all our stuff will have very little to no meaning to anyone but ourselves and we leave everything behind for someone else to put in the trash or give away.

It's something to think about, that's for sure. Have you heard of "Swedish Death Cleaning?" It is such an interesting decluttering strategy. I see all that ladies stuff and I feel bad for whomever inherits it. It would take months to go through all those boxes. Plus, if things are special, just display them! Why keep things that are meaningful to you hidden away in boxes?

@@madzabinga8382 Yes I have heard of the Swedish Death cleaning. I go through my various rooms throughout the year and get rid of things. When I get older, I will reduce to minimum! I work with the elderly, and see how much stuff they have, and most don't ever clear out and leave it to their relatives. 99% goes into the bin as everyone has their own stuff and no room for more.

I am at the place in my life where I am realizing that no one is going to want my "stuff" nor dealing with getting rid of it. Many years ago my daughter told me she would back a truck up to the house and shovel the Christmas crap on it to then go to the dump. I know what I have to do, but finding the energy and will power to let go seems impossible on most days.

I know that can be tough, but some people actually love decluttering, cleaning, and organizing and would be more than willing to help you!

Jane's binders and books reminds me of me about a year ago. I had a ton of empty binders and books in bookshelves and stacked everywhere in the house. I finally pulled all the binders and donated them. I had 26 of them just sitting in the basement. Then over the past year I have been sorting my books into keep, sell, donate. Today I finally organized my remaining books into my library in the living room. I have half a shelf left and no stacked books anywhere else. I'm so pleased and proud of myself. I just had to give myself grace and time to finish the process.

My mom passed away 2 years ago. She and my step dad lived on a farm. It's not a dairy farm, more of a hobby farm. She had horses at one time, but now it's just my 87-year-old step dad on the farm. They came from a generation that didn't get rid of much. So, now it's left to me to handle. I'm a little resentful of this because I've asked over the years for them to downsize some of those unused things, but to no avail. I'm a single woman who works full-time and trying to handle a mountain of things such as this is overwhelming. Seeing this video just makes me more aware of the huge task I'm facing alone in the future. I guess I'll take it one barn, one out building, and one house room by room at a time.

Sounds like a huge undertaking. As someone mentioned, there are usually people who will take on that task for you and you still get a portion of the proceeds from the sale of items, but you don't have to do the entire job yourself. Good luck!

Jane is someone I need progress updates on. I love her.

If nothing else, days spent bringing order to STUFF helps those who will be ultimately responsible for dealing with it. I don't mean that to be grim, it's just as we know, most of the time people who enjoy/keep/etc this level of stuff don't aggressively downsize. So chipping away before it's inherited makes a difference. The kindness and help we give people today matters, even if there's more clutter or reversion later. And sometimes that even sparks change.

Bless Jane, she is very intelligent and fastidious with her conversation and collections. Many elderly folk in their 80's and 90's are still sharp as a tack in their mind, even as their body inevitably breaks down on them, right up until their last day. For instance my grandmother at 96, though becoming frail, still reads her village newspaper and watches news each and every day, even accurately predicting political election results. One can count themselves *extremely* lucky to be as bright and clear of mind as Jane in their older years! Here's hoping.

Jane is beautiful. That is a very clean attic. Thank you and her niece for helping her.

Interesting video and good organization for safer access. Whether for elders, disabled or anyone, it helps prevent tripping hazards and potential accidents. I understand her appreciation for good boxes. I also understand that sometimes we fear some animals or insects over others without wanting to hurt them. I can relate to that. This video was very encouraging because everyone was tuned in to the same goals of decluttering. There was no pressure on Jane. Great job, ladies❣️👍

I know. I just fell in love with Jane. She's just so positive and happy about life. Occasionally I will take a spider outside, but only if I know they aren't fast. Those grass spiders are one of the faster species, which is why they freak me out so bad. I feel like somehow they're going to escape and crawl up my arm.😬

The spider part was very relatable, lol. I can handle snakes and rodents, but keep those spiders away! Great job organizing.

Can you imagine how excited she would be over Apple item boxes? The IPhone, IPad, etc boxes have little to no use, but they are so nice and hard to part with.

OMG, aren't those the best boxes?! They are my favorite for "junk" drawers or other drawers to contain items.

Jane was exactly as I pictured - feminine, delicate and with a competent and capable feel about her that went deep! I have never ever seen such a large collection kept in such pristine immaculate condition. Her hoard piles were more organised that my actual organised stuff - everything was neat a pin. Good on her for getting help for herself 😊😊

If you have VHS tapes you want to get rid of...try taking them to a swap shop or pawn shop. There are resale stores that will buy a box or two , it's better than throwing them out. Could even donate to a charity or halfway house. I also used to take my extra magazines to nursing homes, and Dr offices-make sure you remove any address I fo first.

Omg haven't started watching yet but those books look so yummy! I would love to get my grubby paws on those tracks. Me so jelly!

Hello. New subscriber with my new channel. Inspired by Mira in the help that you have given her, I've created this channel for me to make my own effort to clean small spaces, I don't have help and I can't pay someone either but I've decided to do it for myself, because I don't want to reach to be very old and that the disorder has been in my room and my home for more years. Physically, I've pain from several incidents of small personal accidents, but I know that I can get through it, in pain but motivated by watching your videos and Mira's ones. Just keep in mind that Mira had a lot of experience with KZread as she had a scrapbooking Channel before her current one, so her editing skills were already very good. If this is your first channel ever, it probably will take a while to build up those skills and to learn KZread, but I love that you are doing it and, even if it never gets big, I think it keeps you accountable to keep up with the decluttering. So awesome!!

I fell in my garage and snapped my tailbone off and it hasn't healed up in line correctly, so that's how I found out about the extra. I've heard that about 10% of people have it and most don't even know it. I've always had lower back pain too. I thought it was just because I'm busty! 😂

OMG, yes, the different "fonts" thing is so funny! I wish I could show you the texts she sends. They are w.r.i.t.t.e.n. kind of LIKE *this*. And I was afraid she was not going to be a texter because of her age, but she can definitely text and it's always a hoot to read them! I also either broke or severely bruised my tailbone when I was about 13 when I hit it hard on the corner of a coffee table (never got an x-ray because we were very poor and never went to the doctor unless it was life-threatening), but I think that is what started to set off all my other back pain. I've heard that a lot of people likely have the extra vertebrae as well, but don't know it. My back pain is definitely not because I'm busty! I had to pay for the "girls" that I do have...LOL!

I can totally respect and understand Jane’s thought process. It’s quite genius to have you ladies get it all organized so she can sort. Love this!!!

I wish I lived near her to help sort, what a great lady!!!

It is kind of funny that I can be totally okay with spiders when I'm out working in the yard as long as I can see them and know they aren't going to crawl on me. However, moving a pile of wood or something, I am on high alert since I just know they are going to start crawling up my arm and I'm going to drop my load of stuff. Otherwise, they are just fine. 😊

Jane is amazing and certainly knows how she wants things sorted. She certainly has a lot of collections. Omg the box collection is huge but it’s fantastic she has someone to take some and has no problem giving them away either. Lynnita and yourself worked great together. Not really. In a long life there is a lot of stuff gathering over the years, add Items from dead family members, memories of children, memories of important times in your life - the older you are the more. She should invite her family to loot her stuff. If you were used to have a big family around, it is hard to change habits. And I know from myself, you have that items, you think "Tomorrow I'll thow it away." Well... Nowadays noone needs folders anymore. I can have folders on PC as many as I like. I kept the 3 best of them for tax documents, bills, certificates, and let the others go. Google test: I keep that magazine, flyer, paper because of special informations? Then I use google. If there is newer and better information in the internet, I throw that magazin away. Only exception: I keep all magazines that are more than 80 years old.

Even though she proclaims herself a hoarder, it's not a typical hoard where things are dirty or tossed carelessly in a pile. There are attempts at organization, but it does pile up over the years when you live as long as Jane has.

@@schnetzelschwester I still use folders. I do a great deal of craft work and down load the patterns or copied patterns I bought so I don't have to ruin the good copy. I also write prose and save my first drafts.

As a young woman I lived in a space like that attic. It was very cosy, and I cried when I had to move to another town. I also had a little door under the roof where I stored big items like hiking stuff, boots, beverage crates and so on. My landlord's little granddaughter loved to hide in there (together with their German Shepherd), playing "pirate in a cove". Jane could make a guest room or AirBnB in that attic, or a private library with home cinema, or a private museum with display and information texts. I always get PTSD symptoms if I see basements cramped like that. Where I live we don't store valued items in the basement because river Rhine gives us flooding every year, and with climate change it gets even worse. In northern Germany there had been severe floods in December/January, now there are floods in southern Germany with a broken dam and a drowned firefighter, some people missing. From the flood in Ahrtal and Belgium 2021 with about 200 fatalities the communities haven't recovered yet. We only store things in the basement if we aren't sorry to loose them.

That would be a monumental task!

Years ago, my mother, 79 years old, began to classify and eliminate papers by herself, in her own time and because there are valuable items for her that she wants to keep and because she said she wants to leave the craft room tidy with the items for me. She had a lot of interesting stuff I wanted to ask her about, but Jane is so funny and was very focused on just getting things in order, not a lot of time for chit-chat. I can respect that. It was a paid job, after all. Some time it would be fun to go back to just hang out and ask her about some of her stuff and life experiences. I'm sure she would be thrilled!

So much stuff! At least you all got it organised so Jane has easier access to it.

Jane, thank you for allowing us to support you❤. I love books, crafting and enjoy my collections but the older I get, I realize that I sometimes need to be ok with asking for help. Bonnie has helped so many of us through her videos too. So nice to have a helper, makes it so much more fun! Bonnie thinks us older folks can easily do things online or whatever it’s called with VHS, DVD and paperwork…not so much Bonnie, I’m with Jane on this one😂

LOL! I guess that's true. Jane is surprisingly good with technology, at least from what I could tell, but I understand it is a harder concept for older folks. If there is someone in the family or a friend who could show you how to transfer things from VHS or DVD to the computer, it's not hard once you get going. It just takes a lot of time. I used to work on other things while things were transferring and come back every hour or so to check on progress, start the next one, and so on. Same with the paperwork. Scanning things in is simple once everything is hooked up, just takes time. Maybe I should do a video on how to do all of that. I'm helping my mom right now clean out her garage and we came across three HUGE boxes of old home videos. I bet I could help her get things set up to transfer those to their computer and film it for you all. I have so many things going on right now, but I think that would make a good video at some point.

Yep. I started doing that about 5 years ago and it really is hard to get rid of a good box. However I do try to use them as much as possible when I'm helping someone organize their house. But I totally get why people have a hard time getting rid of them.😊

Well, this looks like my second bedroom in our Condo! My hsb is a bibliophile & was a teacher. I've packed 32 boxes before my back collapsed forever. I have collected empty boxes & they're thrown everywhere. I keep thinking I need to break them down to clear up space, but, depression & pain have taken over. God Bless ❤

@@bonniehonchell9963 Cardboard boxes are such a big fire hazard! They burn with higher temperatures than wood and create poisonous fumes. Make smaller packages. Secure the boxes with duct tape together, shove them to the stairs and let them just slide down. You have no friends or family who can help you for free or some favor you can do to them?

@@schnetzelschwester I was going to flatten them & zip tie like sizes together. I have a lot to pack up. If I had just 1 x-tra room to put things would be heaven. No garage, no attic. Was using one B.R. as storage & then the main plumbing for the Condos backed up & it flooded that B.R., & now the whole thing needs remediation. I have no family here & all my good neighbors have moved. I don't know any of these young people who have moved in. They don't even speak LOL. So, as my physical health declines, I just don't care anymore. If I could get good medical help it would make a world of difference. Sadly, this is not me. I always moved 100 miles an hr. & never stopped working. Then, boom, the slap in the face. Oh well. TYSVM

She'slovely. There's a lot of stuff but it's not dark and gloomy, the rooms was bright so it helps not feel depressed.

Yeah, I know you and I have already talked about how I'm going to clean out my parents' house. There might be arson involved... haha! Just kidding. I'm actually helping my mom clear out her garage and go through other things in their house. I am pretty surprised at how much they have already gotten rid of. And now we are filling her garage back up with stuff for the Whatnot auctions. 😅

Awesome job. Now she can access the stuff and sort through it.

What 2 lovely ladie you have spent time with

We have a similar spider here, a wolf-type spider that lives in lawns and sandy soils. Their eyes can reflect light, therefore one can see masses of twinkling eyes late at night. Many have been in the wars with each other, because a lot of them are missing 1, 2 or 3 legs. Don't worry too much about them Bonnie, they likely have hundreds of offspring!

I wish Jane lived near me and was looking to adopt a granddaughter. (And the way you immediately started itching when the spider appeared was very relatable. Same, girlfriend.)

That's really interesting about that extra vertebrae! It's fun when we learn things about ourselves are unique but have been normal to us the whole time. I learned about a month before my 40th birthday that the rest of you can't hear your own eyeballs moving. I thought everyone could but it never came up.

I used to do that when I was young and had the physical ability. I organized and cleaned many times. When my parents died within 4 mos of each other, they left us with a house full of stuff to have to go through. A lot of family historical stuff and their collections including books and magazines. My Dad was into organic gardening, old farm equipment and tractors, survival stuff so he had organized his books and magazines and then carefully made copies of articles that he filed in a system he could access them. But after his death, we hauled pickup truckloads to the recycling center and it killed me to think of all the work and time he had done only to be thrown away. We cried. It's been 5 years and we still have their house and it's still full of stuff but slowly taking stuff out. It's not a hoarder house and it's been cleaned up a good deal. But if we didn't have their house, what would we have done with all the stuff? At least we have the luxury of the time to do it. The house is used as sort of a family meeting place. And at least Mom and Dad had pretty much told us about all the stuff. We have my Grandfather's brief case with the stuff in it that were there the day he died. Same with my Grandmother's purse. Anyone else would see that and just see old briefcase and old pocketbook. But, as we age, the next generation won't know what that is or have any significance. It's so sad.

This is stuff I definitely didn't even start thinking about until I was about 35, what to do with my parents' things after they pass. I think a lot of people don't really think too much about it until it's pretty much too late to ask them what they want done with it all or help them get through some of it before they pass. It is really sad that we don't take any of this with us and our stuff just becomes stuff for the most part unless someone else places some value on it. The only value in our stuff is what we do with it while we are still alive. This last year has definitely opened my eyes to what I want to do with my own home and the types of things I want to get rid of right now that are just taking up space and I don't want to mess with when I am 85. It's something we should probably all spend a little more time thinking about right now so we can actually enjoy the rest of our lives without all the stuff. Get out and make memories instead. 🥰

@@ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp It's one reason I got into genealogy and digital scrapbooking. I asked family members questions and wrote it down. Then I took pictures and added digital labels. Ex: 1st store bought dress purchased at Sears for Melinda when she was 1 yr old, 1964. So I have one photo of the dress, and a copy photo with the text box label somewhere on the face of the picture. I will name it, 1ststoreboughtdressMelinda1964 and 1ststoreboughtdressMelinda1964labelled. I have photos of handmade quilts (take good quality photos with things laying flat like on the floor or something), Daddy's little boy overalls, his mother's wedding dress, my wedding dress (which was also my mother's and my aunt's). The wedding dress is in shreds and had to be thrown away but I had taken photos and we have our wedding photos wearing the dress. I have scanned documents, taken photos of houses, land, towns, schools, mills, etc. It's all digital but at least it should last a time. I always have backups. I try to do digital scrapbook layouts with the stories too and have made many family history books which are so much easier to keep than the actual items. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements and then upload 12x12 pages to Shutterfly and get them printed in book form when they have their unlimited pages sales. They are pricey but worth it and that way you have digital photos, layouts AND hard copy in a form that is easy to store and pass on.

Hahahaha you’re both hilarious with the garden spider Bonnie! 🕷️🕷️ 🤣🤣🤣 We have them in the UK, usually very big and very fast! The sort that have muscles, tattoos and wear bovver boots, they’re so big and scary 🤣 My house seems to just invite them in 🙄 so I have jar’s and cardboard strategically placed around the house so I can catch the buggers and turf them back out, telling them they’re officially evicted and don’t come back! 🤣 I’m actually surprised you didn’t find loads more tucked away in all those boxes!! 😜🤭

Omg this is crazy, so I was gonna ask you what special stretches you do bc I have a weird back like you described lol and I wanted to know how to protect against strain because of it!! Then you explained what you have and did the stretch! I’m dying. So totally random!!!

How funny! It's actually pretty crazy that doing all of this cleaning hasn't completely destroyed my back. I think in some ways it has strengthened it as long as I make sure that I'm lifting carefully. It certainly feels better than it did when I was sitting all day doing transcription. 😋 I do have days where I know I have overdone it and my back lets me know.😄 I hope you find something to help with yours. 🙏❤️
