Reminds me of a recent SNL skit called 'Leave me Alurn', a fake commercial for an 'alurn', a product aimed at women who don't want unwanted intrusive male attention. Every time a guy comes up to a woman and tries making small talk, she holds up this small urn, saying she just wants a quiet moment by herself with her dad's or grandad's ashes. The expectation is that the guy will shove off, without the woman needing to be rude about just wanting to be left alone. A large number of commenters, almost all female, said they would welcome such a product. It gets the point across without seeming to be rude, or confrontational or even hostile. I, on the other hand, have no problem expressing my preferences without resorting to clever excuses or props. If the reason I don't want to do something is that I don't want to do it, then that's the reason I will give because it's all the reason I need. Simple, really.

I remember getting stopped by one of these people they wanted me to donate $20 a week to help kids living rough lives , told them I couldn't afford that so they bargained for $10 a week I made it clear to them at that time I couldn't afford it and tried to walk away. They walked in front and asked for a one off donation to help trying their best to guilt trip me with photos and stories , got frustrated and gave them $5 from my pocket they then told me they couldn't accept it because it had to be online. at that point I said I'm sorry I can't help and firmly walked away , they then said loudly "It doesn't cost much to help others" like legitimately why can't they take no as an answer, I said multiple times I couldn't afford it and they were so intent on making me give in lmao wish I could have just done what Ricky did.

I’ve done this job before for a legit charity and you’re not allowed to do this. There are actual rules to being a fundraiser. You can’t follow people down the street, you can’t even take more than 3 steps. You 100% can’t guilt people. Your job is to inform them about the charity and hopefully you inspire them to donate. If they can’t for financial reasons, you aren’t allowed to objection handle it. The fact people are on the streets now that don’t even work for charities, taking one off payments aren’t just pissing off people but it’s actually taking the focus away from the real fundraisers who want to make a difference. If you ever come across one again, ask for there charity number and Google it. If they’re legit the charity should come up.

Brutally brilliant!. I sponsored a child in Africa in the 90's through a so called 'approved' charity, according to the letters I received from her, her best subject at school was English, her worst was maths and her father was a subsistance farmer. Within three months that had changed, worst subject English, best was maths and most surprising of all, her father was now suddenly a teacher! WTF? I contacted said charity, questioned this and told them I would be travelling through the region and would like to visit the village..... Got several 'interesting' letters from said charities lawyers telling me I couldn't. Do your research folks!.

This is so true. Once I was told to do something, I said no, and the person immediately thought the worst of me. That shit pisses me off. People should have the free will to want to do something. By forcing someone to do something, you are unconsciously insulting that person. That will make the person resent you. People aren't perfect. People are so quick to judge others but, they never take one minute to take a look at themselves.

Me: "Yea guess it's for a good cause, I'll give you $20 (which was a lot for me at the time)" And that guy had the audacity to give me a judgeing look and drop this line: Him: "Sorry, the lowest donation we accept is $50" Was quite easy to tell him to fuck off after that :) I do not donate anything anymore unless I double checked the guys collecting it, to make sure most of the money actually goes towards their cause and not into their own wallet. Same goes for companies collecting donations for another charity, because they only do that for some tax deductions and PR, better to donate directly.

I had this once, when I told a charity person I was busy, he was like "there's an ATM there, get some money and help us" and I was like "after talking to me like that I'm walking away bye". Then I heard the charity man shout to me as I was walking away saying "Can you come back sir! Turn around and come back sir!" Quite aggressively. Really annoys me and not gonna lie, he kinda scared me. Lol! Thank god I didn't give him a penny.

I love how Afterlife is basically constructed from ideas that originally came up in the old XFM podcast days. Steven Merchant was the one who revealed that charity workers do actually get paid and don’t really do the work off of their own backs in their spare time. He said he feels less guilty about ignoring them when Steve told him that lol

I had a chugger ambush me in WH Smiths once (I was caught off guard because I didn’t expect them inside an actual shop) but I let him go through his whole spiel whilst feigning interest and then at the end I asked if he had a collection tin or something. He of course didn’t because he wanted me to set up a direct debit so I politely told him that I don’t go around giving out my bank details to random people in the street.

Twice I've had volunteers approach me in the last few months. Once they did it when I was having a monumental headache. When they realised I wasn't well, they immediately were apologetic and let me go on my way. Second time, I had an emergency and this woman didn't realise that I was running a panic. She started her pitch. I had to cut her and say I'm sorry but I was in a rush. But yeah, the ones that bother you when you've already said you're busy are the worst.
