I've been listening to Heilung for 2 years and got to see them live last September with a friend of mine. We both walked out of the concert with our minds blown. I'm not really religious, but I would call it a religious experience, or at least that's what I assumed a religious experience would feel like. They had these large drums that one person banged on that I felt the force of each bang on it in my chest and I was in 25th row. Welcome to the Heilung family, because the band told an interviewer that they don't have fans, they have brothers and sisters.

I love Heilung. Languages used in their songs are German, English, Gothic, Old High German, Icelandic, Latin, Old English, Proto-Norse, Proto-Germanic, and Old Norse Here's some of their unique instruments: Bones. Drums made of horse, deer and goat skin. Buffalo horn rattle and a clay rattle. Hindu ritual bell. A Ravanahatha (bowed, stringed instrument used in India and Sri Lanka; neck is wood or bamboo, sound box is gourd or coconut shell with a stretched hide, and the strings are gut or hair).

The words in their songs are just words taken from ancient coins and runes from the Germanic and Viking times. So basically it's representation of those times. The band members are from Germany Denmark and Norway. I highly recommend watching some of their videos. Their video of "Anoana" is a great place to start. It will blow you away. As a point of interest the word Heilung is German for healing. I think the performance is kind of healing.

the sad point is, that we know a lot about runes and their meaning, but we know nothing about how this viking-aera music sounded. have you seen that symphonic viking voyage-concert by einar selvic, eivor and the danish symphonic orchestra? it gives interesting insights into music of that time

Heilung is life changing. Its profound and primal. You either connect to it or not, for those who do feelnit down to their core and it awakens something deep within. Otherwise, one is not ready yet to have the ears to hear. The whole Lifa show (ceremony) is a must. It starts with opening prayer thingy and then it goes into "In Maidjan" which showcases Maria franz, aka tassle girl, vocals and not surprising she is from the Angelina Jordan country of Norway so you know its grade A! So many vocalist I listen to on a daily is from Norway. Aurora, Eivør (close enough to Norway) Einar with Wardruna, Kalandra, Jonna, and saved best for last Angelina. Legend goes if you let a lizard listen to heilung it transformes into a dragon!

I am Norwegian and have to say that calling the Faroe Islands where Eivor is from close enough to Norway that it does not matter😵 is insulting to the Faroe Islands and Eivor that is very proud to be Faroese. It is like saying Taylor Swift is Mexican because it is close enough to the USA🙄 And if you mean Jonna as in Jonna Jinton she is Swedish not Norwegian.

I only got to know Heilung because of Nightwish. In 2018 I wanted to see Nightwish again in Wacken and there I experienced Heilung for the first time ... I was immediately trapped in this music world unknown to me. Since then, they have been number 3 of my favorite bands after Nightwish and Pink Floyd.

If you'd like to see one of their official videos, not live, try "Anoana". It tells a pretty straightforward story (child is born, eventually finds her spirit animal...is the over-simplification.) It's a beautiful song, with a beautiful video, and it has a story that you can follow, so not knowing the words is just fine. Thanks for the reaction to this wonderful band.

Heilung tours regularly. If they are in your area, GO SEE IT! Their performances are not just a concert, it is an EXPERIENCE because you feel the drums and percussion and the energy through your WHOLE BODY and SOUL! You feel like you are transported to ANCIENT Pagan past! Heilung is a true METAL band of the Folk Metal genre. Heilung is a featured band at Metal Music Festivals in Europe! You can go to Heilung's KZread channel as well as their own website to find out tour dates. Heilung means HEALING in Proto Norse which is the language before Norse language of the Vikings. Proto-Norse is the language used in most of the lyrics Heilung sings.

Krigsgaldr-and the LIFA performance as a whole-is about a peaceful village driven to war. To me, this song beautifully portrays sorrow and anger as you listen to the sounds of swords being forged alongside their war chant. And then the English lyrics give you some insight into everything going on. "What if I want to talk about peace and understanding, but you only understand the language of the sword?" Well, if you're gonna force me into this, I'm gonna sing you my "Lullaby of obliteration."

Being a spiritualist by heart and a swedish native with shamanic interest i love youre reaction. There is alot in our wourld and our minds we will never understand. However the fact that these pagan rituals and sounds can make us stir in a way we dont understand connects us all via a primal way deep inside. Ir emember when i first discovered the ley lines of our lands and i staye there in a perfect circle of old trees here in southern sweden. I swear i lost almost 8 hours just sitting there at peace inside that circle of trees. i hEard cars nearby and animals and it seems like a minute but when imoved it had gone almost 8 hours.

I saw a live ritual a year ago. Was one of the most intense experiences I have had. They are awesome. Try Anoana, Norupo, Othan. Their song Nikkal is a song to the moon goddess Nikkal. Based on one of the oldest known songs from 1400 BC. Written down as cuneiform tablets and discovered in the early 1950’s. It’s the only one that was still in one piece. It consists of instructions to play the melody and sing the lyrics but true details have been lost over time.

The European metalheads landed here in search of faster, harder, louder music. Co-founder Kai-Uwe is an avowed death metal fan, they play at metal festivals and release on a metal label. All three met in the reenactment scene, where similar costumes are worn and people live according to the times. That's why nothing seems like it was staged. There's nothing set. There are no musical recordings from before Christianization. What you hear is our idea of what it might have sounded like. In fact, there are several thousand years of musical development between them. The music back then was probably much simpler. Another famous band is: Wardruna and Aurora - Helvegen (Live)

Who brought the horde over to the far country? The godly-fish from Firnøy’s streams Swimming in the drift of the land of shining meadows. Credit to user @Nidels who posts the background on many of these reactions: "The texts of the song have been extracted from the Eggia stone. Eggja's stone (also known as Eggum's or Eggjum's stone) This is a large flat stone with runic inscriptions that covered a tomb dating from the period between 650 and 700 and that was discovered while plowing a field in 1917 at Eggja farm in Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. When it was found, the inscription was on the underside of the slab covering a man's grave, so that it could not be read from the outside (like the Kylver stone). The stone is currently in the Bergen museum. It has about 200 runes, making it the longest inscription engraved with letters of the ancient futhark alphabet, although some runes have a transitional form to the young futhark." well, i can only repeat my suggestion for eivor, last kingdom main theme live at hammersmith apollo. she is truly a nordic goddess, unrivaled. and after that one, i'd reccomend falling free live at the old theater in tórshavn. or whatever you might pick. tròdlabùndin, wake me up, truth live at studio bloch, í tokuni music video, .... she is one of those artists where you say "OMG, where has she been all my life???" by the way, eivors native language, faroese, is closest to old norse together with icelandic

war was an important part of the viking aera. while christians aim is to be a good christian to go to heacven after death, for a wiking the goal was to die on the warfield and go to walhalla. war was also neccessary to aquire new land for a growing population.

I've seen them perform live once at a festival. I personally wasn't hooked. My face was like yours at 5:00 and the multiple "What? 😐" You said during the video, were my thought during the whole show. You made me cackle at 11:47 😆. And then "How is it going Susan?" 😂😂😂. But I agree their artistic performance is phenomenal and the way the show is bought is a lot of work and they do it really good. Just doesn't speak to me 🤷🏻‍♂️.

This song's lyrics actually are complaining abouy the dudes who grabbed oars and went to conquer shit- and ended up at some poor village. It's based off the text on an ancient stone commerating the battle that ensued, which the natives apparently won, at cost, leaving them wondering what divine force deemed to steer the raiders to their shores.
